Fishing AT
Великобритания
Добавлен 15 апр 2022
Hi , I'm Alan Tyrrell - I returned to shore angling during covid lockdown, following a gap of more than 30 years. Having decided to stop work in 2022 , wanted to share some of my exploits as I get back to grips with fishing - surely not much has changed ? Join a 57 year old , on his angling adventures battling with multipliers, long rods and blanking !! Hope I can bring a smile to your face. I live near Chepstow, just across the border in England
Fishing AT Abbotsbury on the Chesil beach - Cod ! Cod ! Cod ! (and other species !!)
I fish Abbotsbury on the Chesil Beach on Tuesday 1/10/24 , walking way past the Dragons teeth towards Portland (for about 40 mins). Parking was £8 for 24 hrs
The sea had about a 0.5 - 1 m swell following heavy storms the previous 2 days. Good colour in the water and a NW / N wind blowing along the shingle
Fished 1 pm to 9 pm with a high tide at 7-15 pm . About 2.5 m tidal difference
Rigs were 2 hooked clipped and a pulley which are explained in the video - hook size S1 - S1/0 on 30 lb snoods
Bait was fresh rag, frozen blacks , squid and mackerel
Fish from the off , with loads of double shots on the 2 hook rig.
Hope you enjoy the video and please like and subscribe if you enjoy the content -...

Horrible feeling, always happens when you’ve just put together the best looking bait ever… 👍👍
Shit happens😂
Thanks and I blanked as well
Nightmare when it happens
Thanks, fortunately not to often !
😂 love it!
Thanks !
Sorry mate but to say that was 200yards easy is laughable it was more like 60-70 max do you actually know how far 200yard is😂
Thanks for watching , perhaps 200 ft then !
Really good session-good to see. I couldn't see but it looked as if your pulley rig was just the single main hook-was that what you were using?
Thanks for watching - yes , just using the one hook for the small (ish) baits on the pulley rig.
Enjoyed this one, might give that spot a go with my son. 👍
Thanks for watching - There's been a cliff fall above the beach at the start of the path from Bay Road, Clevedon , so bear that in mind for access. Work has started on repairs but there may be a path diversion in place
@@fishingat, yes, I have seen that, it's fairly minor in the scheme of things, compared to fishing on the slippery rocks, but health and safety prevails. I don't think it has any real effect on the spot you were at, except that the access to the beach for the locals is being managed while they build new metal ski resort style steps (they've put some of it in place at the bottom).
Great video, so many similarities to my last video except the Cod. See you on the beaches!
Hi, thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it. Good luck with your channel, I'll try and watch some of your stuff
Nice video
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it
Great video and the fish pie was delicious! Beautiful sky.
Thanks mum in law - might help you sleep !!!
Nice one Al buddy!
Thanks guys, hope you're all doing ok and thanks for watching
Eazy al are you ok pal, well done on your session. Especially teasing uz with the codling lol. They just starting to show there faces now up are way on the humber. I was out again yesterday n managed a whiting, flounders n a dab . But the dab was manky as he'll. Its fins were all tatty n on the topside covered in a horrible green stuff on skin. I've seen them on the norflok coast who I watch on the old tube. But that's the first one I've came access. I had dabs last week n they was top quality. It don't look good any way chief what there eating or living. I call them radioactive dabs now lol. All the best from GRIMSBY
Thanks for watching Carl - used to catch dabs regularly in West Wales when I was growing up, but can't say when I last caught one ... certainly not in the last 4 yrs !! Hope the cod season is a good one up North
Very Nice video. This just goes to show if you don’t get the weather window then it’s pretty pointless. The fish just are not there and it’s wast of time and money with clogged roads, rammed car parks and horrendous charges. Sadly Shore angling in this country is in dire straights.
Thanks for watching and yes, we all have to play our part to conserve what we've got left !
Good stuff looked like a perfectly timed trip . From my experience it seems like that is over half the battle for anyone travelling fairly big distance travel to fish Chesil. Looking out the window on our flight back from the Med yesterday the sea around sizewell was a nice chocolate colour for a few hundred yards out . Currently dropping hints and seeking approval for next four day Chesil trip 🤞🏻
Thanks for watching. Yes, having to drive 2-3 hrs to get there each way , focuses the mind to plan - I'm lucky , not working anymore I can essentially go when I want but try to avoid the weekend crowds. It must be tough planning a trip and the weather not obliging. I made a fish pie with the cod / pout , so my better half was well pleased that I'd been !! Tight lines
Hi Alan, good to see you back mate, I bet that kept you fit running up and down the bank with all of those fish! Well done buddy👊🏻 nice to see you getting lots of action. I was down Ferrybridge the following morning on a very short 3 hour session before work, couldn’t fish on my days off as had to fix the car. Just 2 eels, one was probably not far off a double, one dog and a pout, no cod so I think you picked the right day😊 I was going to go to Abbotsbury but changed my mind last minute due to the road closure as wasn’t sure where it would be shut so thanks for the heads up. Great vid as always, take care 👍👍
Hi Lincoln, thanks for watching. The diversion took me back towards Weymouth (from portesham) and then down a track , eventually ending up by the Swannery : bit of a mare in the van !! The walk back did me in - over 50 mins and I'm relatively fit. I was glad the fishing action had calmed down a bit after dark and I only fished 2 rods. One day I'll get a decent conger (I hope) that's why we go back !! Hopefully down again soon but weather looks a bit iffy for next week
Well done Alan a nice mixed bag so can't be bad 😊
@@adrianbryant7342 Thanks for watching , hope you enjoyed the content
I really enjoyed your video. A fantastic days angling. Well done and thank you.
Thanks for watching and the kind feedback. Glad you enjoyed it.
We hit it a week before, Abbotsbury was rammed and not one fish landed, wind was gusting 35mph SSW. You hit it just right. Blanked at Ferrybridge too. Well done you.
Thanks for watching , shame you blanked, happens to us all. It's always hard to gauge what is a fishable wind at Chesil , typically for me I use the wind guru app which allows you not only to check wind direction but wave height as well . Anything over 1.5 M , I'm generally staying home (for chesil)
Codling
Indeed , indeed , indeed - thanks for watching. Quick search showed they are mature at 50 cm .. so the one kept was perhaps a cod !!
Nice to see you catch a few fish. Looked a lovely day for it and cracking conditions. I was down the following day and had a feeling I 'should have been there yesterday'!! 😀
Thanks for watching - I thought the Weds would have been the better day but that's how it goes . Right place / right time which is rare for me !!
Excellent video And thanks for sharing Was very nice of you to explain the rigs And the weather conditions of the day before
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the content , good luck if you are heading out

Thanks for watching and good luck for your Chesil session
Nice codling. I hope there will be a load of cod and codling in the Bristol Channel. Cheers and tight lines.
Thanks for watching, yes fingers crossed for a good run of cod up the channel !
Great music , who is that?
Thanks for watching - music is free stuff off you tube by 'Telecasted' and "Min vandals"
ahh home turf for me, it's been shocking for mackerel off that point this year... wonder why?? I've had a few off the fog horn point
Thanks for watching - never saw dolphins there when I fished it as a kid
Can you overnight fish there without bother?
Thanks for watching - I've never had any issues overnighting at either Abbotsbury or Ferrybridge. Just pay your parking (if using the car parks) as enforcement there can be strict
@@fishingat 🫡..i cant drive(hralth issues) i would catch bus.
hiya alan hope your well mate , plenty of little things about on the beach of broken dreams mate those tubs are gorgy fish . catch up with you soon alan great vid mate take care
Thanks for watching Tony , Great looking fish - I agree. Take care and tight lines
Nice video again mate
Thanks for watching . glad you enjoyed it
Excellent video Alan, I'm travelling down to Chesil tomorrow morning for a 4 days of fishing. Going to try different parts each day. Hopefully the tents have gone!
Thanks for watching , enjoy the big beach, forecast looks good for you - tight lines. Tents were just local to the carpark at Abbotsbury , 300 M either side you are clear of them
Sorry I'm a bit thick & don't understand what you mean by 'tents'. Are you referring to fishing bivis/shelters, - or do you mean people camping ?.
@@batch6792 Camping tents , which (according to local signage) is not allowed
Lovely session that Alan. Perfect fish tank joey that was lol. Keep them coming mate 👍
Thanks for watching - most of my catches would fit in a small tank !!
Great video always good to see videos of chesil . I’m new to sea angling love chesil beach your videos gives inspiration and reality of sea fishing . Great to be out in the open air . Many thanks Clive .
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoy the content - Good luck on your trips to Chesil . If you can walk a bit , then you can easily get out of the crowds, have the beach to yourself and enjoy it.
Hi Alan, I was down the teeth the next day, no fish at all, Mackerel chasing whitebait but couldn't pick any up, angler next to me had 5 but all joeys same size as yours, these size fish maybe the only ones getting through the nets? When you can't even pick up some decent sized Mackerel then it's rather worrying regarding fish stocks. I'll be down again this coming week on some bigger tides so hopefully things will improve.
Thanks for watching - I tried again in the morning (Friday) and caught nothing. When I was fishing on the Thursday , a guy up from me was bait fishing with what looked like a pop up rig and small bait - he must have had about 10 good sized mackerel about 20 yards out. Good luck this week
its a funny old place ive never had a good day there
Thanks for watching , I rarely have good days anywhere but there's hope !!!

That’s a monster session Alan, nice to see a few species. Hopefully the beach will get a bit less packed out from now on… it always amazes me how quickly the cod will appear and disappear again with the sea state. Take care buddy😊👍👍
Thanks for watching Lincoln - Always something going on , when fish not biting. Loads of geese flying over, mackerel shoaling, tuna jumping and kestrels hovering !! Even a guy in a rib , fishing about 50 yards off shore chasing the mackerel around. Hope to get back in a couple of weeks for another session.

Mid September and the codling will return to the Bristol Channel, goldcliff nr Newport and Clevedon's Lady Bay /Portishead. Lug and rag a must. 😊
Thanks for watching - Goldcliff , a mark I've yet to really try and never had much luck for cod at Clevedon / Portishead , other than out in a boat I the 1990's ... fingers crossed for a good season this year
Car park prices are increasing as the cost of picking up and disposal of rubbish has increased. All those scuffers who leave all their shit behind ( a lot of them so called anglers unfortunately ) are making the cost of parking not worth going to some marks. Easier for councils to increase parking costs = more revenue , until their will come a price point were anglers go elsewhere . = no more rubbish = no more problem for the council. Anyone dumping rubbish should face £5,000 fine and their car crushed. Problem solved 👍
Thanks for watching, Shame it's such a great spot as well
Nice one Al bud!
Thanks for watching guys, hope you are all ok
Hi mate is this mark fairly easy to get down to? I really want to try for wrasse and pollock on lures around there but I’m a scaredy cat!
Hi, thanks for watching - No climbing is needed to get to the mark. You follow the coast path (Towards St Davids) until to come to some brick buildings. There is a section of path that cuts down to a quarried area - Hopefully you don't mind heights as the path runs close to a steep drop into the water. The old quarry base is flat (ish) .. walk to the end. Where I fished was about 12 foot above the sea level. You can get down to a lower ledge if you can. If you look West (towards St Davids) , you'll see other marks as well , which look relatively easy to get to as well - hope this helps, good luck
@@fishingatthank you so much mate it sounds more than do able for me 😊
Nice busy one for you Alan, great vid buddy. We only saw a couple of meteors on Sunday night also between the clouds. Happy fishing 🎣 😎👍👍
Thanks for watching Lincoln. It was perfectly clear as well and no Northern lights which were reported as far down as Cornwall. Nice to catch some bream (at last) , was also hoping for a gurnard ... next time but not at Ferrybridge !
Looked like a decent lil session mate , thanks for the upload! Think i’ll be parking at (check point) towards Portland on the next trip
Thanks for watching - think they are trying to stop the sleep overs etc , can't justify the charges , it doesn't compare to other Chesil car parks
Well done, nice session with plenty of fish to keep you busy. Do you walk up the shingle bank in front of the bridge or do you walk along the fleet and then up to the bird sanctuary?
Thanks for watching. Generally, I'll walk along the gang plank bridge by the Chesil visitor centre , then go right across a more solid piece of land (heather covered etc) for about 500 yards before the pebbles re-start. Very easy to walk on before the slog up the bank before the bird sanctuary , which (on Sunday) was roped off as the little terns are nesting. There used to be a wooden gang plank up the bank but it's been gone about 2 yrs.
Thanks for the reply. I'm having a 4 day fishing trip at Chesil the 1st week of September and the last time I fished the bird sanctuary that's the way I went, but it was hard work going up the bank!! just wondered if it was easier going straight up from the little bridge you cross over the car park from and then along the top of the bank.
@@garethwilliams3333 More pebble walking that way . There is a concrete wall (of sorts) just before the bird sanctuary m that you can walk up by (up the bank) which makes it a little easier
Nice video fella, thanks for sharing your session
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel
Great video, very informative. Gonna be going here on Saturday!
Thanks for watching, good luck for Sunday - Hopefully a few bream and gurnard around for you
i fish this mark often, my favourite place to fish actually. you can get very good size fish from this mark, we have had big conger, big sole, big bass and thornbacks from exactly where you are, there has been a 19.4 lb hound off this mark only a couple of seasons back. if you want to fish this place at low with water a 10m tide is good, be aware when this place starts to flood it moves fast
Thanks for watching and the comments. Must go back some time , tight lines
Hello Alan. Long time no see. Steve Griffiths here ex Rhodia. Randomly found this video and watched until you started to speak and thought hello! you look and sound familiar. Quickly realised. I'm still fishing although now with the luxury of my own boat at Portishead. Had some great days out there (also many blanks). Great video and drone footage. Best Regards.
Hi Steve, thanks for watching. Seems an age since we used to go cod bashing in the channel with Pete C and the others. Great memories. Lindsey and I were having a laugh this week about the ski trip to Chamonix in 2000 with Tim and Morag - when you had no hot water for a week in your room !! Not sure the cod fishing is the same now since we used to go but you've got to give it a go. Retired 2 + yrs ago , I don't think I'll be a you tube millionaire ! Take care and tight lines - We're over near Chepstow , with 2 children (20 + 23 !)
Loved to fish the Strumble area with my buddy many years ago, beautiful. Doggies better than nothing for sure. Take care Alan 😎👍👍
Thanks for watching Lincoln, not too many better places to fish - some great times at Stumble , great wrasse and pollack fishing which needs to be re-visited . Chesil looks to be fishing better
