    So glad I found your channel....
    I'm 64 and had 6 months of chemo and a stem cell transplant for leukemia last year. The day before my hospital "lockup", my hubby - who is a builder- cut my long curly dark hair off and "pixi" cut it.... My hair has finally grown back (straight) and is now at the "pixi" length again except it's thicker.
    I loved me when i was bald and so now i'll be keeping the short messy pixi hair - so easy and fun to look after.
    Thanks for your info , cheers from Australia

    I found your videos a few months ago and they really inspired me to go short. I am 66 and had waist length hair at the beginning of the year, cut 5-6 inches off in January and last month went to a short pixie (undercut). My friends and colleagues were amazed and said it took 10-20 years off. I love it and the different ways I can style it. I love your videos and tips. Thank you!

      I had long hair and went Pixie last year but had to go a long time without a cut. Saw this video and got a super short Pixie Friday. I have sags and wrinkles and my ears stick out. My hair grows weird in the back, but I don’t care. Love it super short! I look and feel sexy and I will never go back to long hair. I’m free!!

    5 years ago I decided to let my hair naturally go gray. At the time I wore it mid length. It was a crazy yet fun process, I knew some people were wondering whatever was I thinking! But I knew. After it all grew out I went short and edgy.
    I’ll never go back! I have a unique and very chic look, and constantly receive compliments on my hair.
    I will say this…if you decide to go gray be sure to go edgy with your cut. This is a new day and at 68 I’m not ready to let myself go! Thank you Justin for loving short hair on older women and telling us why.❤

      Thankyou. I feel the same. Past 40 years, i had very long hair. Two months ago, cut it, upto elbow level. Had been coloring since age 35. Now am 53, and fed up with the process repeating every two weeks. Am in the process of greying gracefully. Plan to make it short, when grey color reaches shoulder level

      I did the exact same and get nice comments all the time, I never had compliments before because my hair is quite fine and longer just didn’t do much for me, short and grey is fab and people actually think I paid good money for the colour I am naturally. Can’t believe it after all the years of colouring! 🙄

    I’m so glad I found your videos! I’ve always had thick, luscious natural red-auburn hair with just enough curl to be a little annoying but would look amazing using velcro rollers or a curling iron to define/smooth them (straightening took hours) and gorgeous medium auburn-red. Oh yeah, “big hair” girl here! In my culture, our hair becomes inherent with our esteem and identity, and everywhere I traveled across the world, people would swoon over my hair. But in 2018 I started getting really sick, my hair started feeling brittle and falling out (though until last year anyone who didn’t know me before wouldn’t have notice), and in 2019 I was finally diagnosed with several devastating diseases (lyme w/ 5 co-infections), but the kicker was severe toxic mold exposure from 3 different nasty strains. Even though I managed to significantly slow down the diseases’ processes, the mycotoxins still wreak havoc on everything and last year my hair started falling out so badly I only have maybe 20% left. Even though it goes through cycles of trying to grow back, now I’m nearly 100% silver/white on the top and sides, and the new growth comes in very kinky and super fine, like baby hair. I wear head wraps or turbans to hide the thinner areas (bare scalp peaks through) on top that screams at me. Every 3-4 months I’ll trim a couple inches off the length and try to trim my layers, just so it’s not too painful to brush/comb my hair. My boyfriend recently suggested I just cut it short, and the thought initially horrified me. I have been considering to start wearing wigs, but after looking online at styles/colors for human hair wigs, I was getting frustrated and came here to investigate having custom wigs made, and stumbled on your channel. After looking at all these short/grey options, there’s one I love that would work for my longer oval face and the model looks like she might have similar thinning patterns, and there’s another one I love too (short pixie?) but I think my bald patches wouldn’t work. I can’t wait to share with my boyfriend! I might even follow through with the threat I made my father when I was 16 when he had a fit over my mohawk, lol. I quoted the title of a favorite book of poetry back then, “when I’m an old woman, I shall wear purple (HAIR)”!! lol. I might even try a semipermanent lavender on my silver hair, lol! Thanks for the ideas and advice, now I’m going to see if you posted anything for us “silver-cougars”! lol

    I love short pixie cuts, especially on hair with grey in it. It does take courage and also an excellent cutter. I don’t like the feel of styling product, but discovered if you take the attitude to go with whatever your hair wants to do on a given day, you can have a fun relationship with your hair and wear your Pixie with confidence.

They used to have to thin my hair drastically until about ten years ago; now it seems to be going AWOL with increasing speed. At 81, I'm still enjoying my short look - same color (naturally) as the first long pixie, and similar style. Fortunately I've had a great stylist for the last 20+ years, and each time I leave the shop, I feel as if I've found myself again.

    I’m 51 and was going dye-free silver. About a year and a half ago, I got a short pixie. I loved it! I love mine very short, but I feel like I have a rather larger/round face and was worried about that. I was told by some of my friends that they could finally see my high cheekbones :) . I got some compliments, but since I used to have such long, naturally curly hair a lot of people were shocked and not so complimentary. I decided to grow my hair out again and am at a bob length now. One of these days, I’ll be going back to a pixie. I feel sassy and energetic with one. Sadly, my husband prefers long hair and I kind of felt a pressure to do what he likes. I’ve always had lush, bodacious hair and there’s a sort of pressure from family and friends to have long hair when it’s so thick and “good”. Why I care about other people’s opinions so much…I just don’t know. One day I will just do what I like and chop it off! My favorite cuts in this post are the #2 cuts, but I did do a faux hawk there for a while.

    Don't let a hairdresser give you a pixie until you have pulled back your ponytail and looked at yourself from all angles, because it will expose all sorts of things you don't have to think about with longer hair.

    • @justinhickox
      @justinhickox  Год назад +68

      This is very true! But I would say to keep in mind, that where you have volume in that pixie can modify the way certain facial aspects look. So while you might not like the way, some thing is shaped on your face when your hair is pulled back, it may not be an issue if the haircut is done to hide that or accentuate other parts of your face.

    • @Wannaloom
      @Wannaloom Год назад +29

      Agree with both of these comments. A ponytail can be a harsh style if pulled back too tight and you can get lots of volume and spunk with a short pixie!

    Just got rid of my boring bob and opted for a bixie during this heat wave. So much cooler with less hair. Easy to style -- mousse, rough dry, then pick random pieces to flat iron in different directions. I tease some bits by the crown for volume as I have thin hair. As it flattens during the day I just scrunch it with my fingers and lift. Only down side is having to get it cut more often than a bob. I think it's more youthful, at least on me.

      If I could find someone to give me a really cute bixie, I'd probably try one. But every hairdresser I've ever gone to either doesn't do what I want or they do a good job but not exactly what I had wanted. Seems all the good hairdressers are unaffordable, just bad whether they work in pricey salons or not or they all live in different states or countries than I live in.

I am now 100% natural gray & have 2 questions about gray hair. #1 - Do purple shampoos/conditioners actually remove yellowing or do they just mask it so it appears less yellow ? #2 - Is it common for hair to regrow all along the hairline once chemical color treatments have stopped ? In my case the last color treatment was done on 11/04/22. It really is an amazing process ! Thank you for your time❤️

    Justin, can you do a video on highlighting vs. all over color when you begin to see greys? Don’t have a lot, but stylist advised me to just highlight and I think I prefer balayage

      That will look so good. 😊 I love modern cuts. My hair is mostly gray and I really enjoy it. I usually wear a layered bob cut with long bangs but I’ve neglected to get it cut the past 18 months so it’s below my shoulders now. I’m feeling kind of like a witch lately but I’m going to get it cut soon. 😂

    Love all these silver styles! I had a bob and I enjoyed seeing my silver strands. At my last haircut I asked for her to cut it to add fullness at the crown (we talked about how to do it). Unfortunately, my girl took the thinning shears about an inch from my scalp at my cowlick, slid the shears out, and left the rest long around my ears, chin, and in the back. I have since been hacking away to create more of a "bixie", but my pretty silver strands don't show up much anymore. Oh well... good thing my hair grows quickly.

    After pandemic, retirement and no more coloring every 5 weeks, I am finally getting to my true pixie self. Still tweaking with a new stylist after relocating 6 states south. My cut is a combo of your #1 and #2. My problem is my neckline in the back. I know you addressed this in an earlier post, but I'm stuck. No matter how the nape is cut, my hair goes to a duck tail. Any suggestions? You're the best and thank you!

    • @GuavaJuice7
      @GuavaJuice7 Год назад +1

      I have the duck tail thing too. It's like I'm genetically predisposed to having a mullet. I've had great hairdressers who can deal with it. But I moved and haven't been able to find anyone decent. One guy said I either have to keep it really short in the nape, or grow it long enough to texturise it and for it to fall down. So I know the theory but I can't fix it myself. When it gets long I hate the way it feels but it doesn't look as bad as I think it does. Good luck. X pixie for life haha

    Cool video! I get how the smooth blow-outs work, but I'm wondering how the models with the piece-y, wavy bangs (the ones that are pushed back off the face) get that look. Must be a combination of product and styling - maybe you can demo someday! The middle picture in the bixie set is the one that intrigues me!

    I love watching your clips. I recently had cancer/chemo and lost all my hair. It grew back grey with a look of grey high-lights. It also came back curly which makes it hard to style because it wants to do its own thing. I’m trying to wear it in a pixie style. Your videos have been a real help in showing me how to style. Thanks @and keep them coming.

    This is great! And greatly appreciated. I recently went from half grown-out shoulder length blond/silver to a silver asymmetrical pixie with a side shave, and I think that a mohawk is in my future because those were my favorites from your video and I'm always drawn to those. At this point my side shave is my favorite part, so who knows - maybe a buzz cut some day. Love your videos!

      I do not like the pixie cut. It looks too butch. I love the A-line cut and the bob however, most current stylists won't do it because it's too old-fashioned.

    Hi Justin and everyone. Since my hair was so thick and corse as child my mom decided years ago that I should have short hair, very short hair. It’s ok because I was/am petite with a very small/round face w/big blue eyes.
    Pretty much been my hairstyle ever since too. Styled many different ways thru the years. I’m an old hairstylist so I’m not afraid of product to create fun looks but I am afraid of poor hairstylists.
    I’m having a Huge problem with vacillating going from my beautiful natural silver to my younger dark brown. I greyed very young and coloring hair has been happening for a long time but I’m really tired of it and it’s damaging my hair since menopause even though I use good products. I’m just having a a slight issue with vanity and grey hair. But I don’t think it’s hair color, I think it’s my complexion and possibly the result of feeling constant inflammation and tiredness.
    What’s going on inside has so much more to what we see on the outside that no hairstyle, haircut, or hair color can possibly fix. However, I really enjoy all your videos. Being a hairstylist will always be my favorite career and first love. 😊

    I love the middle photo bixie! I’ll be 69 in four days, have thick wavy 25% grey hair, about mid-shoulder blade length. It’s starting to look dull and frizzy (conditioner and styling products don’t help). I recently lost 30 lbs, so my face is slimmer, but I still have “jowls”. This was a good video for me.
