    This song is Trent's Mona Lisa, he wrote a lot of great songs, but this one is a true masterpiece, even in a historical way, especially if it is performed like that.

    It's an extremely rare heavy music performance where the pianist is the most powerful and most interesting part being performed... god damn can that man ever play the piano.

      ive allways liked that about NINs music. that there are so many different spectres of sounds and instruments in their songs, and that they dont rely on distorted guitars for things to get heavy and "metal". i feel like metal and rock bands are so fucking cheesy and same sounding nowadays beacuse they mostly only rely on two distorted guitars, bass and drums

      I'm always just... the piano is such a different animal of an instrument, it is a percussive instrument, a string instrument, it falls out of windows and smashes stuff in cartoons... it's a magical box of hammers and coils and you do not plug it in to make it work. It's not easy to make it work. But sometimes it's the only thing I can make work in my life. I totally love this performance because it says all that and whispers so much more... Amazing.

      @Taryn Morvillo ~ Wow, that was wonderfully eloquent, thank you. I recently saw a very interesting documentary about the inception and evolution of the piano. It was originally called by the cumbersome name, gravicembalo col piano e forte. So nice it eventually was truncated to just 'piano' don't you think? Oh, and a falling piano was also integral in Sister Cynthia Knickerbocker's "Zombie Kill of the Week..."

    The way the piano is being played, makes me feel like the whole world is falling around that sound and the piano is the beacon that will save any soul that listens to it, and if I can only concentrate on that sound, I can survive the calamity. I swear, I am not high.

    • @robmausser
      @robmausser 3 года назад +5

      The way Mike plays piano is in a style that always impresses me because he makes what is really a percussive instrument (you are whacking mallets against strings with a key) sound organic, expressive and flexible/liquid, like you are sliding through the notes, even though there is no way to "slide" on a piano.

    WOW. Just wow. Kudos to whoever mixed this. It would be easy for an all-out war between the different parts to lose something, but that doesn't happen here. The piano is front and center, but it's mixed as an integral part of the overall sound. Trent's masterful composition, Mr. Garson's skillful playing, it all adds up to something that keeps building and building. Especially in this setting, keeping it from devolving into an all-out noise fest- that takes talent. No "producers with computers" needed.
