This song is Trent's Mona Lisa, he wrote a lot of great songs, but this one is a true masterpiece, even in a historical way, especially if it is performed like that.
The stuff playing on the screen in the backdrop at the big concerts during this song left me speechless as well, that might've been the acid talking but I don't think so🤔
Complete lyrics for Just Like You Imagined: "Ooooooooooooooooooooooh, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, ohhhhhhhhhhhhh".
Don’t forget 1:25 “shkshskkshskshkshshkhshhskshkshkshk”
I don’t know how some of the garbage on you tube has a billion views and this only has 1.2 mil. This is a masterpiece. I feel sorry for people who are not inspired by this
It's an extremely rare heavy music performance where the pianist is the most powerful and most interesting part being performed... god damn can that man ever play the piano.
ive allways liked that about NINs music. that there are so many different spectres of sounds and instruments in their songs, and that they dont rely on distorted guitars for things to get heavy and "metal". i feel like metal and rock bands are so fucking cheesy and same sounding nowadays beacuse they mostly only rely on two distorted guitars, bass and drums
clap hands...yeah mate. The art has gone out of it. Instead of what quality can we make this note it’s how many notes can we use.
Go on and LISTEN to David Bowie's LP "Outside" from 1995, ands listen to what else Mike Garson does, during a powerful music!
I'm always just... the piano is such a different animal of an instrument, it is a percussive instrument, a string instrument, it falls out of windows and smashes stuff in cartoons... it's a magical box of hammers and coils and you do not plug it in to make it work. It's not easy to make it work. But sometimes it's the only thing I can make work in my life. I totally love this performance because it says all that and whispers so much more... Amazing.
@Taryn Morvillo ~ Wow, that was wonderfully eloquent, thank you. I recently saw a very interesting documentary about the inception and evolution of the piano. It was originally called by the cumbersome name, gravicembalo col piano e forte. So nice it eventually was truncated to just 'piano' don't you think? Oh, and a falling piano was also integral in Sister Cynthia Knickerbocker's "Zombie Kill of the Week..."
Wow, this is just like I imagined.
....I see what you did there!
RJ8812
i don't, can you please explain it to me
tinyraptor are you serious?
RJ8812
Yes, I'm being completely serious right now. Also, there's no way I'm being sarcastic right now.
Not really. If you can't tell the difference between my sarcasm and trolling, you have some serious issues.
this song was written 20 fuckin years ago, NIN was and still is so ahead of their time
The best NIN instrumental, hands down. Fantastic song.
I know this is a 2 year old post but I just have to reply, just like you imagined is a great song but I believe the best nin instrumental is a warm place. Fitting that he mentions David bowie in this performance as a warm place was heavily influenced by an early bowie song
A Warm Place
A warm place
Agreed. Incredible.
Leaving Hope
It’s an underrated Nine Inch Nails song.
The way the piano is being played, makes me feel like the whole world is falling around that sound and the piano is the beacon that will save any soul that listens to it, and if I can only concentrate on that sound, I can survive the calamity. I swear, I am not high.
The way Mike plays piano is in a style that always impresses me because he makes what is really a percussive instrument (you are whacking mallets against strings with a key) sound organic, expressive and flexible/liquid, like you are sliding through the notes, even though there is no way to "slide" on a piano.
it's like, never wanting to that song to finish
Seriously!!!
I want to replay, replay, replay just so it doesn't end!
Leonardo Soares I always thought this song was way way too short....
the band are still also still
Best instrumental song ever.
siren7193 nearly, but you need to listen to omar Rodríguez Lopez
@@alismor naaaaa
Funny joke
You can never start your year off wrong while listening to NIN.
We are so lucky to have a composer like Trent now, in our time, I assure you, it will not happen again
Heh..
Just you wait 25,182 years.
Greetings time travellers.
Z --oSo--
I was thinking that it's been 20 years that Trent Reznor has been pushing the boundaries of music, but watching this made me realize that it's just as much as the music pushing the boundaries of him, mutually breaking them along the way. The guy's a musician in the truest meaning of the word.
Still is one of the best choices for a movie trailer song. For those that dont know recall/this was used for the trailer for 300 back in the day. Was a perfect fit.
Yup yup
Was also used in Manchester United's "beyond the promised land".
Also for Crysis 2
It wasn't perfect because that movie sucks ass.
@@anandmorris There should be laws against this being allowed to happen.
Mike Garson, piano prodigy, lost his home and studio due to the wildfires in California.
Wow...that's messed up😢
This is my favorite live performance of this track. Mike Garson is terrific on piano.
Oh my gosh, if Trent had this guy on piano for every concert, I'd melt! This was sooo bad ass!!
beth liebermann Me too! I feel like the piano section kinda glues the whole piece. Mike's so good in this it's like I feel it it my organs, you know?
I remember that tour with David Bowie and Mike's keys on Outside, really incredible.
Mike Garson looks like Marlon Brando in Apocalypse now !
when im sad i get angry, when i get angry i listen to NIN. they make me feel better. i love this band way too much
I have no idea how many times I have listened to this. Best version of the track by far.
The contrast between the heavy guitars and drum baseline with the bright accents of that crazy piano... man what an incredible instrumental song!
The piano ending is just....awesome!I get goosebumps at 4:17
The whole song is pure goosebumps, but I absolutely love the shift to a major chord at 4:28. This is always almost heavenly to me…
Ends on a minor
In my opinion this is their best performance and one of my favorite performances of any song period.
Ever.
And it's LIVE!
This song still surges through me after all these years. Just as much now as when I first heard it.
WOW. Just wow. Kudos to whoever mixed this. It would be easy for an all-out war between the different parts to lose something, but that doesn't happen here. The piano is front and center, but it's mixed as an integral part of the overall sound. Trent's masterful composition, Mr. Garson's skillful playing, it all adds up to something that keeps building and building. Especially in this setting, keeping it from devolving into an all-out noise fest- that takes talent. No "producers with computers" needed.
This is nothing like I imagined. It’s better than I imagined.
NIN forever in my heart, Trent is incredible man
Always thought the piano parts were just random. What amazing fingers!
How is it possible my hair still stands even after thousands of times of listening to this... you'd think at some point you just get desensitised but nope, still there, every god damn time.
The filming of this is AMAZING!!
Thank you to whoever did it!!
One of my favorite NIN songs!
I've never heard such a strong, deep and powerful music... Reznor, you're just PERFECT
The piano is just amazing, makes me chill every time a listen to it. What a fucking Masterpiece.
You guys rock
I wake to this.Every day for the last 15 years….

Better than I imagined tbf
i LOVE that whispering you can hear, it gives me the chills....this is my alltime favorite from NIN
This is my number 4 on my top 5 and it in my eyes represents pure adrenaline chaos.
Just when you think the studio version can not get any better, here comes this.
Can't believe that this song written 20 years ago
The level of pure epicness here is -- you just can't -- no words -- EPIC!!
Jesus!!!
Human (voice, guitars, drums, bass, THE PIANO), synth (high computer skills and others).
A marriage made on earth! What mores can I say or ask for!
The 8 people that disliked this video must be deaf. This is the only way I can explain why anyone would dislike this.... and maybe blind, too, because it's visually stunning, too.
To think...this guy is nominated for an Oscar.
Who the fuck dislikes a performance like this?!
Fucking eargasm.
It's the seventh time I watch this and I can't stop crying...
Still get goosebumps listening to this in 2022
Still listening in 2019🤙
IIf this is not art what else could be in this fucking crazed 21th century.Big thank you Trent and Garson.Sounds like you can ever imagine.
It feels deep revisiting this a decade+ later! Oh wow a little organism changed everything!
Last time I saw NIN live they played Get down make love. Trent claimed it had been years since they had played it live. He is a master at reproducing his sound live unlike some other bands I won't mention.
I had goose bumps for about 3 minutes... literally.
I hope they'll never delete this, I'm coming back here for like 10 years.
Was AT that Bowie concert in ATL. Loved it. Trent playing sax on Subhumans was amazing and showed how truly great a musician he is. This song plays in my head at least once per day. Thank you for everything Trent.
This was better than I could ever imagine.
Absolute exceptionalism.
Algún día voy a verlos en vivo
I had a fucking eargasm
Hearing this song and seeing this video, it is clear that some people will just never understand this kind of music. It's not moshpit music, it's not "rock", it's... Just standing there in awe watching the band and getting goose bumps all over your body is what happenes...
That is the best way to describe this song and probably even Nine Inch Nails as a whole.
Masterpiece , so inspiring , , fill me up with energy, beautiful notes here..
Well, this one is going into the favorites. That is some serious musicianship.
Best version of any nails song ever! This is Nine Inch Nails!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh heh. love this. this is how my soul (if I had one) would sound if it became audible.
Pure rapture flows from the fingers of Mr Garson...beautiful.
The greatest one word....eeeeerrrrraaasrrrrrgggg!!!!!.....song ever written
And all those people playing air thremin along with them in the crowd...oh wait 😮...
Those bass and drums are enough for me
Mike Garson did a lot for that wow. Good lord that was an awesome performance.
So this is what a birth of a star sounds like.
Just like I imagined.
this song is a master work
this song never ceases to amaze me
mindblowing... Mike Garson is a genius.
THAT WAS FUCKING SICK
NINE INCH NAILS: the most perfect and amazing music in the worlds history.
This song is at once timeless, and was 15 years ahead of its time.
Like the best live version. Ever.
This needs to all come out on DVD/Bluray. Absolutely amazing. NIN never fails to blow me away with their live shows. NIN will never die.
Beautiful. Just absolutely beautiful.
I hope TR & Atticus work with him on the new NIN album. This is such a stellar performance!
I could listen to this for hours... it is fucking amazing.
I've loved NIN throughout the years, downward spiral being my favourite. That said, this piece is #1 on my list. Thank you Trent for this beautiful, passionate work.
Some people may not like the piano, it's only a matter of taste. Either way, this is still one of the most epic renditions of Just Like You Imagined that I've ever seen, and I've seen many over the years.
only trent had videos that look and sound this good!!
Incredible!!!
Was Mike Garson born with a keyboard in front of him? He's a genius. I think David Bowie's 1. Outside was the first time I heard him. The Motel was my favorite track from that album. The piano on that song was so haunting. It's awesome to see Mr Garson joining Nine Inch Nails like this. This collaboration makes allot of sense in my mind.
First video I watch this year! Start 2012 with good music!
every time i listen to the album version i remember how great the piano outro is here and i have to listen to it
thank you Trent and Mike Garson!
This is how the pro's do it. Literally awesome.
정말 멋지네요!
Hell. He's amazing
Boba Fett apparently has a pivotal part in writing and being the inspiration for an incredibly uplifting instrumental song from the members of NIN in and around the 97 NIN/David Bowie tour that ended up being one of the best song's of "The Fragile" Album. All jokes aside, this would be a song I could tolerate listening to forever. Especially with this amazing live version of the man himself, --Mike "Steam rising from his nostrils" Garson-- AKA Boba Fett 3:57
One of my very favourite pieces of music of all time. Has aged so wonderfully well.
I wish I was there for this.
Mike Garson is amazing.
And for one more wish...
I wish i could watch a camera angle of ilan rubin drumming to this song. What a phenomenal job.
I walked down the aisle to this song. awesome experience.
Absolutely awesome... for those who don't understand NIN, watch this.
I like going back when it was first played live, to now, seeing the progression of how its performed live. Song still gives me fucking chills.
Give me goose bumps.
5min of pure awesomeness.
No, this is just beyond i imagined...
I can't believe I was there! it all seems like a dream now~
