@James Wickham Being a fan isn’t enough to make these into great movies. Paul W.S. Anderson claimed to be a Resident Evil fan in his younger days and he destroyed it. It requires a fan AND them have taste and an understanding of how to translate it PROPERLY to a movie format keeping the atmosphere, look, music, story, etc intact. Strangely enough, most don’t seem to understand how to do that! Hell, I could see it in my mind easily done right. I can’t understand why these directors can’t understand something so simple.
@@Davesytb haha, no I don't think it's easy or else someone had already done it right :^) I just don't like words too much and little action behind them
I think the reason why resident evil 1 and 2 do so well with this 80's theme is because the games were made in the mid 90's. 80's culture was still very relevant at this point so the games definitely show that influence. These are amazing. I would kill to get an 80's resident evil movie. It's crazy that George Romero's pitch for one was shot down because it was "too much like the games" lol
I mean really that makes sense because if it's a perfect remake people might think they want it but then they would get bored because they already know exactly what will happen that's why creative liberty exists and why welcome to raccoon city exists because it sticks to the source material and has the main story beats but changed the story some so that people don't entirely know what to expect.
@@tybowry609 its kinda my problem with the Last of Us show right now. Its well made but it just sticks so closely to the video game that it sorta just feels like "why not play the game instead?". It just makes me more impatient for the PC release.
I know RE1 came out in '96 but when I found out that George A. Romero was going to direct a Resident Evil movie (which got axed) these are the kinds of images I had in my head. Really strong Day of the Dead vibes in some of these shots. It's uncanny, like images from a different timeline.
I heard about the original movie getting axed and I'm not sure why that happened. George Romero pioneered (if not created) zombie films so it would make sense for him to do a movie like this. Would've rocked too...
@@benitoloco899irc, the producers weren’t happy with the direction Romero wanted to go in (in his script Jill was the protagonist, Chris was a Native American farmer who lived nearby the Mansion and was Jill’s boyfriend and Barry and Wesker were the villains).
