I used to get my dad to knock a.few minutes early so I could.get to the house to watch the.show sometimes he would other times it was a little harder but for the most part I watched this show every Saturday.
Man, my Mom, Aunt, grandparents, sure did love them some Memphis Wrestling. I went into the Army in September of 76, and of course I grew up watching Saturday morning wrestling. We lived on North Prescott. At Poplar and Walnut Grove. Whbq, channel 13, was right down the road. Myself, and my friends would always ride our bikes to the station every Saturday morning, in hopes of getting in to watch the show. 9 times out of 10 we'd get in. What great memories. Anyway, my Mom, Aunt, and my little brother, and sister, never missed a Monday night show. While, I was in the Army, my Mom, would mail me each month, the program she would buy on Monday nights. She'd write down on the programs who won. Man, was that a treat. Especially, while I was stationed in Korea, in 79 80. It was hard duty. But, the wrestling programs, brought home just a little closer. I knew, it wasn't real, my Dad, he was an Memphis fireman for 27 years, couldn't stand it,but never tried to tell Mom she couldn't go on Monday nights. He, knew how much Mom, my Aunt, and siblings enjoyed it. Sorry for rambling, bottom line, I did so enjoy Mom, sending the programs every month for 4 years straight. Also, when ever I'd come home on leave, I'd take them and my grandfather to the Monday matches. I got such a kick out of watching them watch the matches. What such wonderful memories.
Wonder if the videos of the tar & feathering have made it here? the one where they got Jimmy Hart was excellent! He was almost clucking he had so many feathers on him. Good stuff
@selimaazouri Yep. Lance was awesome. I always felt he was among the best of the announcers, at any of the promkotions. The way he ennunciated was hilarious. Used to crack up when the first family would be in there beating down Lawler and Lance would be over there saying, "C'mon Hart get this guy out of here... we don't need this kind of stuff.." and clanging the bell. And of course he had Dave Brown, who was the Robin to his Batman.
Lance would talk about the heels and say, we never said the guy couldn’t wrestle, it’s just that “lousy” attitude! Lancer was the best, in my Handsome Jimmy voice.
@@marlinmealer6506 Very true. Just like Jerry Lawler didn't have to be Memphis Jerry Lawler. The WWF/WWE wasn't into the very Southern style and attitude of the guys it signed from territories like Memphis. McMahon was running a national operation and if you were from the South, you had to connect with a national fan base, either negatively or positively, which meant becoming a cartoon character rather than a hometown hero/villain. As you said, Jimmy (and Jerry) could make tons more money in WWF/WWE than in Memphis, so who can begrudge them the chance at playing a simpler role?
You must did not get to see Jimmy Hart that much. Hart was/is the greatest manager of ALL time. NOBODY could bring that heat like Jimmy did/could. Cornette rode Jimmy's coattails and watched what he did. He didn't copy him down to a tee, but he witnessed the greatest. Cornette was the ring photographer in Memphis for some time and Jerry Jarrett gave him a push a manager of Sherri Martel.Cornette was great, but not more so than the "Mouth of the South."
you know, i used to think that 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair, 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper, & Dusty Rhodes, were the best 'Talkers' in 'Wrastlin'. but you've got to put 'The Mouth of the South', Jimmy Hart, right up there with the best of em.
@mamacornettesmoney I wanted to put Dundee up there, but between he and Hart, I'd have to give the nod to Hart. Now, Dundee benefited from Hart's departure as he got a major push, but Hart was the arch enemy Memphis needed.
@arkansoul Amen. Hart was the enemy the promotion needed. I always felt Memphis wrestling was never the same after Jimmy Hart left. He was heart and soul.
most of the wrestlers we see or seen on wwe and tna came from memphis wrestling, jeff jerrett, ric flair, dusty rhodes, jerry lawler, koko b.ware, the undertaker, used to be master of pain, the rock, stone cold steve austin, shawn michaels, marty gennetti,so whenever vince mcmahon or his father the got it from memphis. jimmy hart was in the wwe year's ago i's say in the mid 80's to late 80's and then on wcw.
Memphis wrestling was great. I miss old school wrestling.
Tojo Yamamoto was about 53-54 years old at this time.
Jim Cornette Experience brought me here
The "hell yeah" from the crowd had me laughing out loud
My 12 year old world came to a screeching halt for that show. i warned my parents not to depend on me for anything between noon and 1pm on Saturday.
KEVIN MASTERSON the good ol' days. the Saturday afternoon wrasslin' matches! remember watching them with my grandmother.
I used to get my dad to knock a.few minutes early so I could.get to the house to watch the.show sometimes he would other times it was a little harder but for the most part I watched this show every Saturday.
Same. Us kids would do our chores early to be done so we could watch Memphis wrestling with Jerry Lawler and Jimmy Hart.

Saturday at noon in Ky. We were sitting in front of t.v. and when commercials came on my brother and I would go at it
Now I'm wanting to see that match
I still can't get over that blonde guy became the Honky Tonk Man!!!!!
I wish he stayed like that throughout his whole career
@selimaazouri I do. The Mount Rushmore of Memphis Wrestling: Jackie Fargo, Jerry Lawler, Jimmy Hart and Lance Russell.
Honorable mention Jimmy Valiant?
Wonder if the videos of the tar & feathering have made it here? the one where they got Jimmy Hart was excellent! He was almost clucking he had so many feathers on him. Good stuff

It seems like that Hart slowed down when he joined Vince. His Memphis stuff is beyond compare.
He didn't have to be Memphis Jimmy Hart and make more money.

That was one of the first Machines that eventually made their way to WWF a few years later. A trailblazer.

Given his size, how could Wayne Ferris (aka Honky Tonk Man) have been so intimidated by 5'6" Dynamite Kid.

AGREED.
@selimaazouri - I'll second that. An excellent "straight man" as well as an exciting play-by-play commentator that helped sell the action in the ring.
Downtown Bruno was a good heel manager in Memphis, but he wasn't near as good as Jimmy Hart was,and had the same heat.
Met jimmy hart at louisville gardens before he went to WWE. Very nice guy
Corny brought me here 🎾
@selimaazouri
agree mate-
the whole thing rested on Lance Russell.
@Naitch35 - Well, thank you too... for your informed and insightful comments regarding my videos, as well as recommending my playlist. :)
@mamacornettesmoney I wanted to put Dundee up there, but between he and Hart, I'd have to give the nod to Hart. Now, Dundee benefited from Hart's departure as he got a major push, but Hart was the arch enemy Memphis needed.
he was the one who originally said, "Wax On, Wax Off".
Lance Russell was great. Gordon Solie was great. But, there isn't much video on RUclips of the "Dean of Wrestling Commentators" Lord Athol Layton.
Tommy Rich tucked his tail between and went back to GA and Jim "My Boooyyy!' Barnett!
Tojo worked over the young punks who started in the company.
Dream Machine sounds like Jerry Clower's twin brother....
Greatest wrestling of all time
@arkansoul
Amen. Hart was the enemy the promotion needed. I always felt Memphis wrestling was never the same after Jimmy Hart left. He was heart and soul.
I miss Memphis Wrestling on Saturday Mornings.
100% GOOD TIMES
Hart was a great heel manager. He was great on the mic and had a laugh that was annoying.
I remember when people thought the dream machine was either dusty rhodes or Phil hickerson
I never noticed this before but back then Jimmy Hart, back then, had the same cadence to his voice as Dutch Mantell - with 2 Ls.
Was the dream wahoo McDaniels? Sounds like him!!
No, he is Troy Graham.
god htm looks different
They came back
Eerie Preview of Days to Come? Jimmy Hart calls Superstar Bill Dundee a "Macho Man"! 🤔😱😂B.W.
Wayne Ferris Aka the Honky Tonk Man

@Darrencardinal Imagine the CWA buying out the WCCW(as they did) and if Jimmy Hart had never left. WW who???
