The ‘59 LP does indeed have some anomalies such as neck profile, fret wire size, pickup winding and potting, etc that do differ from other years but the fact that only less than 800 were produced that year is significant for their coveted status. All said though, I would often play one as a kid in the ‘80’s while I was learning guitar and it sounded and played a lot like the Cort LP clone I got from Sears. I disagree with you about commending the video, however I do agree with you on the subject of Eastman. If I were contemplating a modern Gibson Les Paul Standard with a view to taking it back to a more historic feel, I'd go Eastman SB59v. I'd junk the idea of buying Gibson in the first place.
Thanks for the kind words. I was looking at Easman when I started a blues band and was searching for a good hollow body/Semi Hollow body guitar. I was real close to pulling the trigger on one. I ended up with a Moonstone M-80 (a 335 copy). Love the guitar, but had to change the pickups. I put in some Tone Specific Bloombuckers that sound incredible in the guitar.
Yes, a decent modern guitar can sound better than a 1959 LP. I saw a TV episode where they blind tested concert violinists who played Stratovarius violins and modern violins. The musicians selected the modern violins slightly more than the Stratovarius violins. You are getting a collectable instrument in a 1959 LP and it is part of American and rock and roll history. But, it certainly isn't a sound that's worth $400K when compared to modern guitar. Personally, I have picked a $500 LP clone over a $6,000 LP custom shop in a blind sound test on RUclips. I have a $597 LP style guitar and I really like the way it plays and sounds.
I’ve had a few vintage and modern LP’s . The best sounding one I’ve had was a late 70’s Burny copy …. Absolutely smoke and mirrors. Great video! Subbed
The reason they brought seth lover into gibson in the 80s was because the pickups being wound inconsistent with the employees and the equipment. The reason gibson has high priced vintage is the aftermarket world. Remember when pauls in 58-59-60 weren't selling or popular the sold sgs instead. So when Clapton and the other artists like led Zeppelin shows the WORLD what a paul could do demand spiked in the 60-70s because now you have the guitarist all over the world wanting one. So now the 1500-6000 of the only usa made 58-59-60 could or were made. Hence why asian guitar factories spring up all over china japan eventually korea and china. Why do you think gibson had started to sur ibanez. Now you know also why vintage cars can sell for 6 figures. All our classic cars have been shipping all over the world because they weren't made anywhere else back in the 50-60. I could go on. But when gibson moved they didn't bring the equipment to make the guitars again. Because the gibson employees started up heritage guitars.
They can make better cars today, and better guitars today. Yes, these guitars are hoarded by overseas buyers who I am sure are going to keep them and try to get a million dollars for them one day.
Legit 1959 Les Paul's are the Holy Grail of guitars but reissues and custom shops are not . I always crack up when people take what some nobody on RUclips with a mere 625 subscribers says as if he's a legit expert LOL. Get a clue people

My 96' Epiphone sounds pretty damn good to my ears. Its bound, upgraded some parts over the years. Sustains longer than any other guitar I own. I also hardly ever play it clean - much prefer single coils for that, so the difference is even more negligible.
Those are the buzzwords used by those who are conditioned to think "I know, they don't" and you have zero proof to actually back up anything, hence the phrase usage.
Agreed. I've owned six Les Paul Standards, which include a 1996 Standard, a Historic Makeovers and a Murphy Labs R9 which I currently own. I was sad to sell my 96 Standard which I basically modified with 50's wiring, sprague-caps and finally Lollar Imperial pickups. Those modifications opened the guitar up sonically, however the difference between that guitar and my Historic Makeovers and Murphy Labs was colossal from both a feel and sonic viewpoint. I was also fortunate enough to play Bernie Marsden's 'The Beast' 59 LP which was amazingly close to both the HM and ML. Leaving aside all of the banal 'lies' and 'baby puke' drivel, it is true that you don't have to spend $385,000 to get into the ball-park of a burst, but that doesn't take into account investment matters or how the guitar feels.
I can imagine the flack you've caught on this one. But thanks for sharing your take. The sound clip doesn't actually sound the same, I could pick either one of those out easily from that one clip. It's definitely arguable whether one is better than the other for a specific purpose. Still, good stuff, have a great holiday.
Well that's 15 minutes of my life that I'm not going to get back. After listening to the rant about 'lies', I finally listened to the guitar clips and to me the 59 definitely sounds superior. Admittedly not $385,000 superior but superior. Personally I'd say that your Traditional would probably sound better in the event that it had a 50's wiring harness, or better still if you forgot the Gibson label and bought an Eastman. Your guitar sounds muffled in the high-mids. As for the 'lies'... they're really not outright lies, they are hyperbolic marketing spin.

Im not trying to buy into the hype and I think you're making great points, but will be a bit of transition in some early 59 and early 60 models.. Id wager that 59 with the chunky neck was built very early in 59.. But they can vary widely as well.. Great videos love to see more on these, especially PAF's
So the greatest guitar players in the world guitar players that have their name on brand new Les Paul models who are paid by Gibson for every one of these guitars that they sell these guitar players who don’t need to spend a penny to buy a less Paul pay hundreds of thousands of dollars and up for a vintage instrument and they don’t realize that it sounds the same as your guitar? I had a 1968 Gibson es 335 tdc back in 1983. I havent heard another that sounded as good as that one in all this time... time has something to do with this,, the aging on the magnets and wood makes a big difference in the tones.. the 1959 when it was new doesnt sound as great as it does 50 years later,, its all about time, but the old guitars are waaaayyyy overpriced by a shitload! Same could be said about vintage Fender amps also, the circuits can easily be duplicated and in many cases with much better components but they dont have the broken in sounds,, especially tweed

I know, it's the flat head screws that adjust the pickup height. 2024, and people still use flathead screws!😅 1959 ahhh... that magical mystical year!😅

Then again, facts won't make the price go down as øong as there are people that want to spend the money on it...look at what kinda high prices one needs to pay these day for housing, even if the house needs to be demolished cause its all rotten to the core..its called bad government and rich running the s..t show...now a murphy lab is the top of waist of money...😂😂 Again, some d..b people wanna pay for it..(kinda good marketing from givson and gibson retailers)..they convince you a beat up guitar is worth more then a nice new cared for guitar🤣..

@@Adipsia1 THE VIDEO IS GREAT!!!!
@@voyxu143 In your mind.
@@voyxu143 No it's a rant and you need to focus upon something else to recover your sanity.
I could argue that my $101 IYV sounds just as good as a 1959 Les Paul, and no one could prove me wrong.
In fact, it has otherworldly tones.
You could argue that but you wouldn't win that argument with anyone who has ears.
@@TeleCaster66 Have you ever heard my $101 IYV?
I’ll go one step further and say once they discontinued the LP they never should have brought it back
Legit 1959 Les Paul's are the Holy Grail of guitars but reissues and custom shops are not . I always crack up when people take what some nobody on RUclips with a mere 625 subscribers says as if he's a legit expert LOL. Get a clue people
1959 sounds better better tone but I agree in what you are saying they are over rated for the price
How do you know which one is the 59?
When the boomers and gen x are gone the value will plummet and I’ll maybe grab one lol
It is possible.
The greats say it’s the best guitar ever. When the stars like it the price goes up. Bloomfield, Clapton, Page etc…
If Clapton liked it so much why did he only use on one record? He played an SG longer than he did a Paul.
It was stolen unfortunately. Granted he could have got another one at some point. But it wouldn’t have been the same. That was a special guitar!
@@Bog_22 hahaha, great cope. Eric Clapton in any number of years could have had any guitar he wanted. He never went back to a les paul. I guess that means strats are better than any '59 paul.
@@voyxu143 Clapton’s guitar was gone! He had to move on sound wise. In order to recreate that tone, he would need that exact Les Paul that was stolen. But not only the guitar, he would need that very same Marshall combo amp. A reissue would not do!The way that particular amp was wired made that tone happen! there’s no other way!
@@Bog_22 bro, not sure what kind of gummis you are eating, but EC could make any Les Paul sound fantastic. He could have bought any ORIGINAL '59 out there man. Wake up.
Great video,I picked up a 2022 R8 , and I don’t consider it a baseball neck like they say they there is a little more girth than my buddy’s R9 in fact he liked my R8 so much he sold his R9 and bought an R8 we both buy used. The best way to get them.
I agree, the used market does offer value in the case of guitars for sure.
My 96' Epiphone sounds pretty damn good to my ears. Its bound, upgraded some parts over the years. Sustains longer than any other guitar I own. I also hardly ever play it clean - much prefer single coils for that, so the difference is even more negligible.
I don`t even know where to begin. I don`t have the time to go into all you are saying here. Those that know, know. Those that don`t, don`t.
Those are the buzzwords used by those who are conditioned to think "I know, they don't" and you have zero proof to actually back up anything, hence the phrase usage.
@@voyxu143 I merely wrote `I don`t have time to go into it` Just saying in a nutshell, your reality isn`t shared with everyone, thats all.

@@voyxu143 right on. 😎
Fantastic video have a wonderful day ❤😊
You too....Cheers!
Whit Rock said it.
I can imagine the flack you've caught on this one. But thanks for sharing your take. The sound clip doesn't actually sound the same, I could pick either one of those out easily from that one clip. It's definitely arguable whether one is better than the other for a specific purpose. Still, good stuff, have a great holiday.
With the Alnico V pickups it could. Preferably the Burstbucker Pro or Seymour Duncan 59 neck and Sh-14 Custom Alnico V bridge pickuos
Pickups are important. The traditional has reissue '59's in it.
I have been saying this for years
Pretty sure the madness will continue.
I recall this was the sound of a burst !! Once this sound was in mty head I could never wanted a Les Paul
THE TRUE SOUND A $500.000 BURST
ruclips.net/video/peYy53RP9KY/видео.html
The sound in my vid is a REAL burst. It was taken from a vid of a real burst.
I think there is more to the story than you realize.
They were saying exactly the same thing yesterday about dave Davies flying v, if its that good how come Dave sold it, funny how clapton and the like don't touch them anymore go figure 😮
hahahha I saw that flying V vid.
Lol the Flying V one sprung to mind as even rarer but no flame and burst of course. Ahh but it’s those old pots and coils
@andrewbowen6875 if joe says so eh however he even admitted the brown 56 epiphone reproduction les paul sounds just as good, straight from the horses mouth
Other worldly, LOL that's rich!
You should stop carping on this and move on to some other guitar content.
Like what?
Which car is worth more? Duh!!!
Guitars are as good as you think they are, 59's are the pinnacle! Dont understand the bashing, you dont have to buy one.Have you played one? Most haven't, including me.
"This guitar? Well, this guitar plays itself. It's a 'Burst!'"
Honestly, I would like to do a blind Pepsi challenge on a magical, mystical myth against any of my guitars.
It's ridiculous every year they get closer and closer to the "real deal." One year, it's the pickup rings, like that has anything to do with how it plays and sounds. The next is hot Hyde glue. I know, it's the flat head screws that adjust the pickup height. 2024, and people still use flathead screws!😅
1959 ahhh... that magical mystical year!😅
Its all in the fingers..a 58 wont sound any better in my hands then my gisons i have, nor better then my prs or chris larkin i have..they feel slightly different to me, at first , but after a few min playing i dint notice that, i am into my "rocking mode"..
The legend and myths surrounding the guitar are GREAT for business....!!!
