    SO, I had to try editing and re-processing this video about 5 times before RUclips released its copyright claim and unblocked the video. To have this released, there's excerpts of me listening to the original piece that are missing--I likely will not be doing listens within the video in the future to avoid this, but instead am including a link to the reference piece in the description.
    If you want to support this video, you can buy me a coffee in the description. Thank you all for your understanding!

    Really enjoying this. The piece is marvelous! You are a very good teacher. Suggestion: Maybe when you are doing the sketch you could quickly identify the chords you are using???

    I really recommend giving the Attack on Titan soundtrack a listen! I think the composer of the music, Hiroyuki Sawano, made some incredible pieces for it. I'd really love to see a breakdown of it! (if and when you're able of course :D)

    Great work Zach! I just started watching your videos after your interview with Ann-Kathrin Dern. I really like this one as we see you work at it and how you approach it.
    I am wondering, what is your go-to chord arrangement for sketches? I mean here inversions, piano "voicing", etc. As my piano sketches never sound that good until I actually voice them for orchestra. Cheers!

    Awesome! Just found your channel, such great stuff. I want to learn keys mostly as a composing tool. I play guitar and know basic music theory. The speed and fluency you seem to have improvising these harmonically interesting ideas and translating them from your head is amazing to me. Composing in the way you are doing it would be my end goal for learning keys. How would you suggest I approach learning if this is my goal? I can learn scales and chords and keys of course but just wondering about your take on this since you're obviously super good. THANK YOU!

    Great video! What amount do your negative track delay for CSS legato? I know that the different note velocities trigger different legato speeds per note, with slow at -330ms, medium at -250ms and fast at 100ms.Or do you use the "Classic" legato patches?

    • @lincolndaviscomposer

      I’m curious as well how you are making everything line up on grid with CSS. Would save me so much time.

    • @ZachHeyde
      @ZachHeyde  2 года назад +2

      Not at the studio at the moment, but I believe I have them switched to "standard" with a negative delay of -180... but mainly the speed is that I trigger a constant velocity when needed using a custom user transform in the piano roll. That keeps all notes to the proper delay value except for the first one, which I nudge right using a keystroke 👍🏻

    Hi Zach! Firstly, just want to say a huge thank you for your content, which has become an invaluable resource for me. You are absolutely brilliant at what you do! I hope you don't mind, but I have a question about articulation sets. I'm struggling to figure out how to configure them, because as far as I can see, only one parameter/keyswitch can be assigned per articulation. In the case of sus longs, marcatos, how can you configure it to ie. set longs + no legato, or marcato + legato. Same with shorts, can articulation sets enable staccato + staccatissimo (without using mod wheel). I hope this question makes sense!

    • @ZachHeyde
      @ZachHeyde  Год назад +1

      Thanks Mojo! Check out the CSS manual and look for the MIDI CC values that control each--setting CC values for your articulation sets instead of keyswitches should at least solve your shorts issue. As for legatos, I don't use art switching/key switches for legatos, so not sure on that one!

    So i see you changing the notes through the software at 28:30. Does this change the actual note value? Do you have to pay attention to the chords you're making when you adjust it?

    • @ZachHeyde

      It changes pitch--and yes, as you suggested, you have to be mindful of how those adjustments impact harmony :)

    • @ZachHeyde

    Hi zach, how can i set the key switches of CSS to a pad. My keyboard is only 5 octaves so i cant use the keyswitches originals but i have a pad in the keyboard with 8 keys

    • @ZachHeyde
      @ZachHeyde  Год назад

      You'd have to be able to reassign the MIDI values on the pad to correspond with the CC values of the articulations (indicated in the manual) 👍🏻

      You can program midi by mouse, but it takes longer (to be fast with it is also a matter of practising though) or start learning piano, there are tons of free resources online and although it might be challenging, you can get there. One step at a time! I believe in you.
