I'm off alcohol 5 months. The golf society I'm a member of is based at an expat bar. I confessed quickly when I got asked had I quit alcohol and in fairness many of the guys were very encouraging. I did note that the heaviest drinkers in the group, those who were definitely alcoholics, didn't like it and would make snide remarks. I never hung around the bar long after we came back from golf day trip. I cola to be sociable and I was gone. It was just too uncomfortable. Too much boozy shite talk.

Not only have I come to realise that I no longer need alcohol to be in the company of other people. I also don't want to be in their drinking company.

I meet up with friends about once a month to watch the match at the pub and i drink 0% beers i find this helps combat loneliness , Boredom and stress . I do find it hard sometimes getting used to doing things without alcohol but i am sticking with it i feel like a fish out of water

I thought if I stopped going to the pub I could cut back on the booze. Didn't work, things got worse. Ended up drinking alone. 8years sober, never going back. Nice video, Kev. Filmed in Spain?

Thanks, I appreciate what you say because I've forgotten some of those really early days and how very hard they can be. Your talk brings back the feelings I had, and the hard space my brain was in. I feel so deeply humble and grateful to have lived the last 25 or so years sober. I have loved ones, health, and a content life. If not for being sober, I would be dead.
For people posting here, it can be so hard, never thought I'd manage it for a start, had a real attitude on me. Often you might be told that your life will be better sober. I'm saying that for me there's NO comparison. Sober is the life I should have had and never knew it. I wish that for all of you who've made life changing decisions.

Few people will admit that the booze might be a problem, the denial is astounding. If i get caught with a non alcoholic drink or refuse it " whats the matter with you",whats wrong".

The acquisition of knowledge about myself and using it to pursue a deeper richer life has taken over big time. It sounds self absorbed i know but im not only more interested in being of service to others and a higher good than before but ive actually got the balls to follow through now im sober. Its a beautiful thing. Just like those mountains your hiking in brother. Thanks again for another great talk. Onwards and upwards 💪🔥🙏

I 100 % agree. Lil over a year sober. Every now and then I have to stop whatever I'm doing because a profound thought occured to me, sort of like an epiphany, almost brings me to tears sometimes

I always say the exact words when asked why I quit.. “Alcohol is a lier and a thief”. For 15 months now I’ve reduced by 95%. I still sometimes fail but I get back up. Thanks Kevin
