DECEMBER GROCERY HAUL

  • A grocery haul for the entire month of December for our large family of 13! (One is definitely only eating breast milk... but we are still counting her...haha.)
Plus we cooked and shared a healthy, easy recipe!
    Balsamic Chicken
Cook up some halved brussel sprouts in coconut oil. We added bacon crumbles near the end of them being soft. Cook chicken thighs OR breasts separately and shred the chicken. Add it to the pan with the brussel sprouts. For the sauce, we use about 1 1/2 cups of mayonnaise and half a cup of balsamic vinegar plus some basil and salt to taste. Add more balsamic vinegar in until it is just the right amount of tangy.
Next time I make this I will try to be more careful to measure things out for a more accurate recipe!

Sarah, when you have leftover lemons/limes you can squeeze the juice into ice cube trays and freeze it. Once frozen, take out of the trays and put into a resealable bag and then you can use the cubes in recipes as needed. Hope this helps 😁

I'm a baker so I wash and grate the rinds and freeze them and then squeeze the juice in one tablespoon increments and freeze them in covered ice cube trays then pop them into freezer bags. It's time saving and convenient and there's no waste.

However, I remember the Christmas she said it was her holiday too and instead of a big, labor intense meal she served platters of assorted slice meats, cheeses, great big rolls, ton of condiments, chips and topped it all off with her traditional pies and cookies. That was 60+ years ago and still to this day Christmas at our house is a holiday for everyone.. complete with special sandwich fillers, fun sides, great desserts and laughter.

Hi Sarah, I just found out that you can save money and make your own brown sugar especially organic brown sugar. For light brown sugar, you add 2 tablespoons of molasses per cup of white sugar. For dark brown sugar, you add 3 to 4 tablespoons of molasses per cup of sugar. I usually make a medium brown sugar, and just use it in all recipes. Also making the brown sugar in your Kitchen Aid mixer is so easy. Plus it doesn’t get hard like store bought brown sugar.

  • @caronsmall4392
    @caronsmall4392 2 года назад

I don't know if anyone else has suggested this, but you can wrap whole lemons in aluminium foil and freeze them whole. When you want to defrost them, you can do so either in the fridge overnight or on the counter top. You could also cut lemons or limes in half and freeze the juice in ice cube trays and once they are solid, transfer them to bags. Probably best to label the bags so you know which is which as I've found that frozen lime and lemon juice can look quite similar and you might not want to pick out the wrong one for a recipe! The juice cubes don't need defrosting if you're using them in soups or casseroles or even stir fries which is handy. The zest of citrus fruit can also be frozen in bags or containers, so I hope some of that is helpful depending on how much freezer space you have and how many limes and lemons you have left over! ☺

One year we didn’t have a lot of money to buy traditional stuff for Christmas dinner. Our family didn’t either. So we got stuff for hamburgers and hotdogs and chips. We had a lot of fun with that. Everyone loved it. So we turned it into a tradition. We’ve done it every year now for around 25 years. Lol this year I’m alternating dinner. I’m gonna make taco salad and queso dip. Everyone is happy about that too.

I 100% agree with you on take out and paper plates for Christmas dinner! It makes the day so much better and everyone can just relax and enjoy the day. The main thing I like about this idea it makes it more about family time and spending time together. Baby Peace is absolutely beautiful and her name really suits her. In the past couple of video's she is wide awake and watching what everyone is doing. Still can't figure out who she looks the most like for now I think she looks more like Seth. You and Solo are raising some amazing children and I truly mean that. God bless you and your beautiful family! Congratulations on your newest blessing baby Peace!

I have not done a "normal" Christmas dinner a number of years and it is great. I've done soup with really nice bread, lasagna, butter chicken and a few years just leftovers and snacky stuff. Soup was the best because I just put it in the slow cooker and people helped themselves whenever they want, I made three kinds. I love it however the family does not so the past few years I am back to cooking a regular holiday meal, I am trying to convince them to have lasagna this year, I'd make one seafood and one tomato based and freeze and just pop in the oven on the day. For me it isn't the cooking that is the issue it is all the clean up and needing to stay on schedule all day.

Seasoning your meat with the lime and lemon will help you make good use of them - even using the zest in some recipes to add flavor. Also, since you are on the weight loss journey, Sarah, putting a lemon slice or two in your water or tea and drinking it just before you eat is a good way to shed some pounds.
Thank you for sharing your awesome family with us!

If you put the lemons and limes in a plastic ziplock and put in fridge they last a lot longer.
The funny thing is in our town Chinese used to be the only restaurant that was open on Christmas and they always had a lot of business. I am not big on traditional food on Christmas I would much rather have something else.

Just a FYI, the vegetables you purchase from Sam's that are Great Value brand probably have wheat in the vegetables too. I have Celiac, the Great Value vegetables I have purchased in the past have wheat and then the vegetable in the ingredients list. I don't know if this bothers you but I thought I would let you know. ❤

The people that will hate on your choices will do so no matter the choices. They just need something to project to. You are nourishing your family by providing them with a variety of foods. You are an awesome mother for keeping everything moving so well, don't get hung up on these naysayers.
Like the thing with string cheese, that string cheese provides them with some calcium, protein, vitamin A, D, and a small amount of iron for their daily nutritional needs so don't worry too much about handing out string cheeses.

I also enjoy those Atkins sweet treats more than the original versions! They satisfy the craving without the sugar rush for me and that's always a good thing. Artificial sweeteners are vigorously researched and considered generally safe and if they help you avoid sugar/high fructose corn syrup versions than more power to ya.

Leftover lemons are phenomenal to use as a cleaner! I take leftover lemons and put them in a large jar with 1/4 vinegar and 3/4 water, I put my orange peels in to! I let it sit for 2-3 weeks then use the liquid in spray bottles as cleaner.
