- A meditative exercise for creating awareness and pulling attention away from associative thinking. Focusing attention on breath and the physical body. This meditation is for all levels of students practicing for spiritual, health, or stress purposes.
Those that have studied the Fourth Way material (P.D. Ouspensky, George I. Gurdjieff, et al.) will likely find this exercise incredibly beneficial. This exercise is best done as soon as one rises out of bed. Once the awareness is created in us at the beginning of the day... how long will it last, and will we be able to see when we lose it?

After some research on the exercises that gurdjieff would teach his pupils, his meditations for self remembering were slightly different. For example, in the evening, some pupils were asked to count backward by 2 numbers from the number 10. You would observe your day as you did this. This made it possible to remember yourself without bias, essentially seeing yourself as others see you. Every one of his pupils had different exercises, as he thought not one exercise was universal. Just thought I'd mention that!
Meditation is not about trying to "stop your thoughts" or "push them away." As thoughts arise simply bring your focus back to the meditation. That is it. No fight necessary.

Lennon, for me meditation is 'stopping your thoughts'
When you stop thinking completely, awareness will remain.
This for me is a method to 'patch in' to reality.
Not like a thunderclap, but after sleeping often a
understanding about almost 'everything'.
Stopping thought is not easy, took long time to accomplish.
But in the end you'll experience something different
I also found you must meditate at least an 1 hr a day.
It takes almost 20-30 minutes to quiet your mind
and direct yourself to non thought. :)
@@fntime yes but he is saying that you can't achieve this by struggling to silence your mind, its impossible, so you can just notice them without feeling frustration about them and in this way you will start to slow down the chaotic chatter of the mind
There are steps and depth to meditation. If you were truly a master of yourself, youd be able to stop thoughts. This is almost impossible to do for a long periods of time. Modern meditation is sort of a gateway to it, but most people stop there. Its a gateway to thought awareness. "Noticing" you drifted off, aka, thinking, you "bringing" it back to the breath, trying to be in the present. If you are truly in the present, your mind is still, with no thoughts. "Power of Now" is an example of this exact state

I went through a similar meditation (group called heartfullness). It feels good to do it for 30 minutes after entire day of work. They suggested to try it in the morning, but I guess it would change me as a person so drastically that I will let go many of my responsibilities.

What do you mean Fourth Way. Gurdjieff explained to Ouspensky that the Fourth Way is at a level higher than the Way of the yogi - ISOM page 48. And that the Way begins only when the last threshold on the Stairway has been crossed - ISOM page 201. There is no way logically that this can be the Fourth Way. We are all at too low a level.

I like the meditation, but why does it stop so abruptly at 18:00 min ?? That's rather disruptive ...
Maria Brandt that's what we try to forget.
Try to push a thought away. And that thought will be there a million fold times stronger and won't let go of you. Do not push a thought away.
Just let it be. And see that it is a thought only. When you are in the present exact moment, there cannot be any other way that what it is exactly at the moment. But if your thought tells you another story, then you know it is only past memory or imagination and cannot be real cos what is real is the present exact moment which you can never know but can only be experienced.
How did G recover addicts?
Gurdjieff did not wish to stop thoughts.
Emotional music creates emotional/sexual wrong work.

just remember you are not to concentrate but to observate
It would be better without music as background... The objective of the exercises is to entero into SILENCE and remember yourself and let thought go and pay no attention to them.... To open to something higher... You need SILENCE.
This is good but can be improved and made more conscious.The music is too loud and makes voice difficult to hear at times.Also you could focus more on awareness of the three main centers,especially breathing into the instinctive center.Also just say genitals.Thanks for doing this..

The music is too loud.
You need to rebalance this so that your voice is above the music slightly. I had to turn it up too much to hear your voice, then it hurt my ears.

I find the music distracting and too loud. It drowns out the voice. Hence, I have to read captions, which I would prefer not to do while meditating.

This is not fourth way type of meditation. If you can start by always be aware of your right hand and left foot no matter what you do all day from when you wake up until you go to sleep then that is the first step or the fourth way meditation. You need to learn to split your attention to be able to be aware of being aware no matter what you are doing.

Horrible. First: one does not understand what he is saying because of the musik. Then because of his lsaggish speakng. THird: it has nothing to do with the forth way. Fifth: self remembering is done during all your activities and not staring at a candle.
