You don't want to haul your luggage around for an extended period in the uncovered bed of a pickup. It will get dirty. Take the advise of pickup owners here. We've been around the block. ;O)

For renting a vehicle for a family of four(with needed luggage capacity), you might consider a midsize-to-large SUV. You are correct in protecting your luggage, in the possibility of rainy weather. It can be sunny & dry here one day, then cloudy, with rain the next. I really enjoy your videos.

For driving around with luggage, I suggest a nice full size SUV, like others have said. They come in two and three row seating, but for the four of you and probably lots of luggage, I say get one with two rows of seats and you'll have leg room for the kids and room for luggage behind them. If one with three rows of seats is all they have available, you can fold down the third row for luggage.
A pickup isn't going to allow you all to nearly fully recline to relax and sleep, either. My brother has a long bed pick up with a removable locking cover, and has only driven it a few times for vacations with the luggage locked in the back, but they prefer the comfort of the SUVs and his Mercedes, but the Mercedes won't hold all the luggage for his wife, daughter and him, and the truck doesn't allow his little girl to recline enough for sleeping.
Driving around with luggage in the back of an open pickup is advertisement for someone to possibly steal or damage your items. I'm just thinking that it could happen because I've never heard of it happening, and that's because my family and friends only drive SUVs when traveling long distances, and our luggage is always locked inside, alarm on, with tinted windows whenever we stop by a restaurant or a store.
Also, depending on how much shopping you do, you can try renting one with a luggage rack on top, get some waterproof containers, put them on top, cover and secure with a tarp. I wouldn't put any of great value up there, because in case it's damaged, stolen or falls off, it's not a huge loss.
I'm not trying to scare you about things being stolen, and I really don't hear about people having things stolen from luggage racks. I'm just trying to give you something to think about because you truly never know what will happen. I don't think you'll be in any neighborhoods like the Griswolds in the movie "Vacation". 😄
We went on a cruise and drove a little over six hours from northeast Alabama to New Orleans, LA in my sister-in-law's Chevy Tahoe (older model) which had three rows of seats, and five adults rode comfortably with our pillows and blankets. My brother drove and didn't use a pillow and blanket, but still....😊
She now has a brand new Land Rover, and I'm ready to travel. 😀
We were supposed to go to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge during Christmas, but we all ended up getting sick.
    Safe travels!

A tomahawk steak is just a rib steak that they haven't cut the end of the long rib bone off. The same steak without the bone at all is a ribeye. The steak the Jolly guys are eating is probably a 16 oz rib steak plus the long bone. Could be slightly larger, maybe 18-20 oz. That size steak is a common choice on menus here in the US, not just Texas. One person can definitely polish it off, though many people will have trouble with the cheesecake dessert if they also had a salad and baked potato.
As far as driving a pickup, you probably can't rent one with a bed cover. You can probably get a full-size SUV like a Suburban. That will give the same driving experience as a pickup, but with more interior room and no pickup bed. If you were able to get a crew cab pickup you could get 4 people and luggage inside, as long as you don't have too much luggage.

  • @scotthaught1

  • @gotham61
    @gotham61 4 месяца назад +1

A pickup seems like a poor choice for this type of trip. The pickups most rental companies offer are usually smaller single cab models, and they typically don't have a bed cover, so your luggage will be out in the sun, dirt, and rain, and will be prone to theft. Get a SUV or crossover. Even a smaller one will have much more space for people and luggage than a single cab pickup.
I get the best rental deals through Costco. I don't know if Costco is in Slovakia, but it may make sense to sign up for one year just to get the discount. They also allow a second driver at no added cost.

They are really expensive wherever you purchase.(Tomahawk Steaks). But, to be fair, it should serve 2-3 people, typically.
You might want to look into renting a top for the truck you are renting... prob not from same place you get the truck, but a rental place where they rent tools and 'accessories' for equipment (as well as equipment) and vehicles, like tow packages etc... I think some also rent tents etc... which you might want to do part of the time, (will help w/ costs too) just get your reservations in early for the national/state parks where you want to investigate.

Someone mentioned renting a hybrid SUV (non-plug in) to save gas and gear. Worth checking into. He could also just go to any dealership and test drive a pickup (under the guise of buying it) LOL
That's a good call on the reservations for the parks. Not all but some require them or you can't get in, some just fill up for the summer. You don't want to get turned away.

Follow good instructions from pit masters online and you'll be right as rain and eatin good! And the reason you like pastries or desserts with nuts in them is because the nuts add a little bit of a savoryness to it offsetting the sweet. That steak looks delicious. If you don’t want to pay Tomahawk prices just order a ribeye-my favorite. Is that Ollie’s ranking for that fabulous Pecan Pie before or after the Bananas Foster at Brennan’s in New Orleans? It’s a tough call either way. I definitely lean towards the Bananas Foster though. An amazing experience AND a taste of heaven on earth!

Here in America, a man does not share his tomahawk steak. I ordered a giant steak because I wanted a giant steak and I don't want anyone to make it less giant.

Ive been a lot of shows about beef and cattle and it seems more people the world over says Scotish Highland beef is the best! The marbling and texture of the meat is fantastic. Unlike most cattle breeds that only graze Highlands graze and browse and that makes a more complex flavor. Every country has is favorite beef breed but in all the cold to moderate climates, Highlands seem the be the favorite and are spreading quickly! And yes, bone adds flavor as your wife pointed out about chicken. ❤🐔

You should research videos on how to butcher meat yourself. Don't know about Slovakia, but in the US, it can cost up to half as much to buy a quarter or half a hog or steer and butcher yourself. You'll need some freezer room though.

My favorite is Prime Rib, but I have yet to meat (pun intended) a steak I don't like. ;P My son is transferring to Fort Worth, and he wants me to move there with him, maybe purchase a home or rent, but prices seem a bit high atm.

Word to the wise, do not go to any chain restaurants while you are here. Especially for steaks! Outback and Applebees are a joke.

Beef must be aged before its cut into steaks and served. Minimum of 30 days, I prefer 45 - 50 days. The steak you see is red because its too fresh. The aging process darkens the meat and breaks down the fibers to tenderize the meat. A proper aged and cooked steak does not even require teeth to eat. I kid you not.

I've had Key Lime pie, and it's sooo good. I can't imagine doing something so dumb as frying it!
If you've ever seen an old American TV cartoon called The Flintstones, you know what I'm saying when I compare these steaks to a brontosaurus steak that they had at a drive-in restaurant in the program's intro section.
This was an interesting and fun video; the only problem was that the volume on them was turned down so low that, although I could always hear them, if I so much as cleared my throat, I'd have to rewind. If I were to have a hearing problem in the slightest, I'd be unable to catch any of their dialogue. Could you work on that in the next video? Thanks.
Key lime pie originated in Florida's chain of islands between Miami and Key West, called the Florida Keys.
I get a 'kick' out of the pronunciation of pecan as peekin', because it sounds like you're "peekin'" around the corner" when you eat it.

You don’t dump truffle butter on top of the steak! You dip pieces into it.
Also, a lesson to everyone who doesn’t live in the U.S.:
    pea-can
    pea-KAHN
    peakn
All pronunciations are OKAY! There’s no right or wrong.

This is bad advice. Don't slather butter onto your steaks before grilling. The butter will burn easily. You can baste them with butter while they're cooking or lay some butter on them while they're resting on the cutting board after cooking.

Your entire family seems to be genuinely kind and wonderful people. This is my second time making a very modest contribution, which is the correct thing to do given the amount of work it is to create these videos and the pleasure it provides. I have traveled extensively internationally. Most counties have good points and bad points. The US is no exception. I'll NEVER say that it's the greatest country, but it is a great country. However, I am very critical of it, because I want it to be better and better, and I know it has the potential to be. Please put this towards your trip fund.
