Fun fact: in canon this is the first duel between a Sith Lord and a Jedi in a thousand years
Wow, if that is the fact that is cool.
I mean technically qui gon already fought darth maul on tatooine before this, although only briefly
@@samhorsley3536 I wouldn't really call that much of a duel though tbf
@@reckless5834 Would the term skirmish be more fitting for the Tatooine fight?
@@darthenoh Yeah that'd be more accurate imo
The most important thing to remember from this fight is that Obi-Wan has proven that he will always have the high ground, even when hes on the low ground.
The high ground only serves Obi Wan, it can never be used against him.
If you think about it, in this case, Darth Maul wasn't expecting it. Especially being that Obi-Wan no longer had his light saber. In ROTS, Obi-Wan told Anakin to not do it.
@@natfox5150 sidious used the highground
But if you look back, Obi-wan never actually makes the killing blow from the high ground. He gives it up in favour of the low ground and then gets the kill.
@@Sal_Sal27 I don't buy it the sith and jedi are supposed to have heightened reflexes to deflect blaster bolts and to fight in fast duels. A highly trained sith could have easily just slashed Obi-wan while he was still in the air
So your pretty much dead if you hit by a lightsaber
Clone wars Maul: Hold my beer
My thought was: unless you're disney writers...in that case, nah well just force heal them lol

Same dude😩
Fun fact: In Legends, Maul was sent there explicitly to kill Qui Gon because Sidious knew he could never turn Anakin to the Dark Side if Qui Gon were allowed to train him.
Great now I'm gonna cry
Which still makes almost no sense. Qui-Gon is going to stop Anakin from falling in love with padme or fearing for her or his mother's death? Not that it matters. Palpatine could just implement order 66 and wipe out every Jedi (even young Anakin) except Yoda and maybe Mace Windu and then it comes down to who ever palpatine's apprentice is, the army of clones and palpatine against two Jedi.
@@scottb3034 nah Qui Gon would’ve mentored him. He would’ve allowed them to fall in love but he’d give him advice. The advice he needed when he was worried over her.
@@Bo_OnXbox that is assuming a lot of things. And he can't allow them to get married. He isn't in control of their lives nor speaks for the Jedi Order. Maybe you mean he would have known of their marriage and been a confidant? That relies on Qui-Gon being clever enough to figure it out or Anakin with all his hypocrisies and lack of trust (helped by palpatine growing it--which Anakin would have still had a relationship with Palpatine) to tell him.
Qui-Gon was a rogue but he still ultimately believed in the Jedi Order and followed their rules. Not sure he would have been completely welcoming of the marriage or at the least of hiding it from the Jedi.
It ultimately comes down to the same thing that happened without him. A battle between Palpatine and Anakin's Jedi mentor over Anakin's soul/humanity and Palpatine had the advantage of shipping Jedi off wherever and engineering ways to put them in situations to kill them. Palpatine could have continually had Jinn on some far-flung world away from overseeing Anakin during the war and then attempting ad nauseum to get him killed. Jinn was already starting to show his age in TPM, even if he got into shape there is no guarantee during a war he'd survive. My money would still be on Palpatine to win Anakin over and eradicate the Jedi including Qui-Gon. Perhaps even Kenobi who wouldn't have beaten Anakin due to Skywalkers volatile emotions compromising his duel with Obi-Wan. It would have left solely Yoda. If Anakin wasn't swayed because of Qui-Gon...well that pesky order 66 would have killed him or exiled him for eternity.
I will say Qui-Gon surviving puts in to question dooku being corrupted and the whole sifo-dyas saga. Maybe THAT is enough, combined with Jinn MAYBE saving Anakin to avoid this whole thing.
Actually, that has zero basis. He was on the trail of these two to begin with, and Anakin wasn't a full on factor by this point. In Legends, Maul wasn't even a Sith, just an assassin who THOUGHT he was a Sith, Plagueis was still alive, Palpatine didn't kill him until he was elected Chancellor, and Maul died immediately after.
Fun fact : darth maul is actually snake eyes in gi joe
Fun fact: He still retains the skills he had to play Darth maul even today.

The new Starwars movies has got nothing on the prequels lightsaber combat.

@@car6697 You said it...I seen the new movie and my god was that a dumpster fire.....
The new Star Wars movies had their light saber users swing their weapons like baseball bats.
Kind of interesting to think about the fact that Anakin tried to use the same move against obi wan in revenge of the sith that kenobi used in the final moments in this battle (jump over opponent with high ground to land a final blow), but in revenge of the sith obi wan was all too prepared for it (unlike Maul was in this fight).
Very interesting indeed!
Obi Wan learned how to beat and take advantage of the high ground
@@moiseslugardo8501 He IS the high ground!
Even more interesting is why. Recent comics showed him practicing against a sparring droid specifically with Darth Maul's moveset. The Sith assassin left quite the impression on young Anakin. After all, he did kill the man who would have originally trained him.
Super Saiyan D that’s really cool. Which comic is that? Would like to take a look. :)
Just in case you thought that the cutting Maul in half bit was too intense, don't worry; he got better... sort of.

@@jackreacher4488 technology cant stop natural aging some jedi ie qui gon and dooku were able to slow it a bit with the force. hell even in star trek the humans who live to be over 100 are still fragile and wrinkly
Fun-fact:
Star Wars: The Old Republic makes a direct nod to this scene in the resting emotes of the Jedi Knight and Sith Inquisitor.
Then the Jedi Knight rests, he copies Qui Gon's meditation from this scene, and when the Inquisitor rests, he paces from side to side like Maul in this scene.

@@kashourikatsu2543 technically, its not used as a guard. Only reason it looks like that is because kylo ren has a cracked kyber crystal and those mini sabers are necessary for the lightsaber to even function without overheating and actually blowing up due to the crystal being cracked.
every first movie in a trilogy:
-orphan on a desert planet
-space battle
-big bad kills mentor
Now that you mention it....Qui Gon, Ben Kenobi and Han Solo. Seems legit
@@hunterv9983 ok not orphans but someone who dreams of leaving the desert planet. Anakin, Luke, and Rey
and this is where the sequel trilogy effed. The moment Kylo killed Han he should be being established as the big baddie, instead of trying to reverse course and 'redeem' him. The reason he should have killed Snoke was the rule of 2 so he'd be strong enough to kill Rey (which he should have come close to doing right after in a rematch of their first fight).
Then you wouldn't need to rely on Palpatine in the 3rd, Kylo could have been the established threat, not needing 'redemption'.
@@PowerStruggle555 Rey never dreamed of leaving Jakku by herself, unlike Anakin and Luke. She dreamed her parents would return so she wanted to stay on the planet until then.

The big take away from Episode one is that Qui Gon was meant to train Ani. And instead of the father figure he needed, he had to instead settle for more of a brother figure who couldn't quite reach to him as well. The reason the song for this battle is called Duel of the Fates, is due not just to Qui and Obi dueling for their own fate, but they are fighting for the future fate of Ani as well. Everything going wrong starts here.
4:50 Its more intense because he's tapping into to the Dark Side. Channeling his anger into power.
And because using Ataru form you can feel it more clearly.
Yet having to beat maul with the light side, he solidified his position as a jedi.
@@RealidadExplicada he switched from ataru to soresu form at that part
I would disagree on the Darkside, but I would certainly agree with Sith philosophy. You can see him fighting rage, and then refocusing into determination, which is a form of passion - "...Through Passion I gain Strength. Through Strength I gain Power. Through Power I gain Victory...". I seriously doubt Obi-wan would know the sith creed, but he exemplified it here.

I always said it u gonna tell me obi wan didint just slightly tapped into the darkside while fighting him at the end? Lol he came out rushing in pure anger lol
You might not be wrong there. XD
He did absolutely. The oldest and wisest of the Jedi, learned how to bring balance to the Force. Even the Nightsisters knew how to use the dark side without it corrupting them, for that matter. Obi-wan just had the resolve not to let it corrupt him here. Mace Windu's light saber style, Vaapad, actually uses the darkside to work properly (none of this is in these movies of course, so not really spoilers, all books and stuff), he was able to use the aggression of a Sith in his fighting style, and even feed off of his opponents dark force power. Making him an even match for whoever he was fighting (Now you do want to remember that tid bit for the third movie). Plo Koon could use Force lightning too. I think he called it electric judgement or something, and there was a big controversy with the Jedi council about it, and they proved he could do it without feeling rage, but still didnt like him to do it. Well I nerded out way harder than i thought i would there. Jeez.
Oh man that's all very interesting! Did NOT know about Plos force lightning. Nor Mace accessing the dark side in fights. It takes special skill to be able to use the dark side and not let it take over/corrupt. Awesome
@@NochVtuber I'm pretty sure its called force judgement.
@@mrshadow7738 eh, they call it a couple things I guess. Not sure which is right, but force judgement sounds better.
I just realized Obi-Wan kept getting kicked out of the way lol
That's most likely because Maul could sense that Obi Wan was the more skilled combatant with a lightsaber and represented the greater threat. He singled out Qui Gonn because he was the older of the two and easier prey.
shadowstalker1120 I thought it was more to do that Maul sensed both was too great a challenge even for him, so he used every chance he could to separate the master and apprentice. He probably kicked away Obi-Wan because as the apprentice, it is assumed that he isn’t as strong as his master, and is therefor easier to beat, so Maul could go all out and kill the stronger and more experienced master first, making the fight with Obi-Wan a pushover. At the same time, killing the master is a good way to enrage the apprentice and make them easier to fight and trick since they’re ‘clouded with rage’, as all Jedi strive to resist.
Just a thought, but the fight can be read several ways
shadowstalker1120 also cause obi wan was young as well and more spry
It was a bit more strategic than just sizing the pair up and focusing on the easy target; Qui Gon, though not on the Council, was a well respected Jedi Master as well as a gifted duelist. Defeating him would prove that not only had the Sith returned to the forefront, but that they were formidable against even some of the best the Jedi had to offer.
@@shadowstalker1120 no qui gon was above padawon Kenobi
i really enjoy how they use punches and kicks in the prequel fights. makes them seem more believable and gritty :)
When Obi-wan charges through the gate he's in a rage. Channeling anger. Tapping the dark side and unleashing his aggression, which is why Maul bests him and disarms him. It's not something Obi knows how to control. It isn't until that moment of rage passes that he is able to gather himself and focus to turn the tables on Maul.
_"So your pretty much dead if you hit by a lightsaber"_
Well it's a beam of intense energy that disintegrates flesh on contact. Sooooo yeah.
Well no
Let me explain, if you've seen starkiller, he was stabbed by a lightsaber and survived just fine. And the saber cauterized the wound, stopping blood. But the reason qui gon died was because of two things: first, the saber likely hit an organ. Second, the organs were likely staring to fail by the time obi wan got to qui gon. Qui gon was likely using all his force to hold out. If obi wan had killed maul faster qui gon would have likely survived his wound.
@@jessesmith6824 You're adding a bunch of fluff for no reason. Qui-Gon was quite clearly impaled through the heart.
I get annoyed when people say, "But in this spin off media, X happens..." Yeah, yeah, whatever. Ok, but your average viewer isn't going to go through the entire EU. The films are meant to be interpreted as though no EU exists. With that said, we can assume that lightsaber wounds aren't fatal if they aren't near vital organs.
@@jessesmith6824 Well, yes. Qui-Gon was impaled through the heart, Darth Maul was cut in two.
@Alex Smith Just declaring some EU material canon for the sake of your argument doesn't mean anything. I think I've already said many times in SW debates - if it isn't part of the 9 films, it isn't acceptable for debate, because no two fans can agree on what's canon and what isn't. But we CAN agree that the films are irrefutable canon.
I heard they had to slow this fight scene down in post bc they were carrying out the choreography so fast, and when obi-wan looks like he’s getting pumped up before the ray shield goes down, that’s Ewan genuinely getting himself ready for the scene.
“So you’re pretty much dead if you get hit by a lightsaber”
Metal limbs: let us introduce ourselves
Beskar plating: Don't forget me
That moment obi had the switch in fighting style was actually him using his anger (the dark side) to defeat maul
So your pretty much dead if u get hot by a lightsaber?
Darth Maul: Hold my legs
"so you pretty much get dead when you get but by a lightsaber"
well depends. in this scene Qui Gon had important internals severed and surrounding internals from where Maul's saber impaled him were boiled and therefore he died. lightsabers are no joke as shown earlier in the episode when Qui Gon was melting through sealed blast doors.
They can melt blastdoors but can't be used as a source of heat, see Empire strikes back
@@Lesserthannone they can heat your insides, the heat is contained within, there's no radiating
@@DaleTuck31 the air is just "your insides" of what you're breathing
Yeah then you got Maul who survives purely from his hatred and a little bit of dark side powers
I've seen footage of them practicing these scenes and Ewan and Ray would be moving so fast and hitting so hard they'd literally bend the metal of the practice swords they used.
It really blows my mind how many people haven't seen the Star Wars movies. Although i'm really glad that the sequels bombed so hard that people are starting to appreciate the prequels now.
What really aided in Qui-Gon's death was Obi-Wan's fear. Fear of losing his master. He was too well bonded and connected with his padawan not to sense his padawan's growing fear, which threw him off balance. That's when Maul saw the opening and took it.
I don't think that was a factor at all
Maul recognized that Qui-Gon's form IV ataru was at its weakest when backed into closed, confined spaces, and he simply backed Qui-Gon into a confined space
In the novelization, it is stated that Qui Gon Jinn is among the greatest swordsmen in the Jedi order. He was trained by Dooku, being the finest of his time before leaving the order, who was in turn trained by Yoda. It is also worth mentioning that the relationship between master and apprentice is akin to parent and child as the master is the most prominent adult in a padawan learner's life. This remains the nature of their relationship until the padawan graduates to knighthood at which time the relationship dynamic switches to more of a fraternal or sibling level comradeship. In the novels, it is also revealed that Obi-wan nearly washed out of the order until, when he was almost ready to age out of the program and be relegated to the force using agri-core, Yoda forces Qui-Gon to take on a new apprentice. During the novelization, Qui-gon muses to himself that Obi-wan is on the path to become an even better swordsman than he. During the dual, he becomes aware that he cannot defeat this Sith alone and that he is just trying to survive long enough to wear him down so Obi-Wan can hopefully finish him. This is why he meditates while they are separated by the red energy field. To gather his strength and buy himself some time. When Obi-wan watches his master, his father figure and his best friend die he momentarily flies into a rage, teetering on the brink of the dark side. The power flows through him and he momentarily overwhelms Maul, but because he is out of control, Maul gains the upper hand again forcing him in close to a "lockup" so he can surprise him with another powerful force push. It is when Obi-wan, while dangling above the pit, calms himself and becomes attuned to his surroundings, he feels Qui-Gon's saber and draws it to him while using the force to hurl himself back up to the ledge above.
The real question I like to ponder, is if Qui-gon had not died and become Anakin's master, would Anakin still have fallen to the dark side? I speculate no. Qui-gon was more aware of everyone's emotional states and had a less rigid interpretation of the jedi way. I feel like Anakin may not have chafed as much, in Qui-gon's more fluid style. He also butted heads with the council and might have helped Anakin navigate his emotional turmoil better.
I think this is why duel of the fate played : the fate of anakin was sealed when qui gon died as he couldn't train him and guide him anymore .
Qui-Gon was an adherent of the Living Force, which studies life energy, as opposed to the Cosmic Force, which is more omnipresent energy. The Council refused to give him a seat among them because followers of the Living Force hold emotional attachments, which the Council outlawed through the Jedi Creed (in the EU, Luke fundamentally opposed the idea of cutting off emotional ties, as noted in The Jedi Path).
Maul is around Obi Wan's age, obi is 25 in this scene and Maul is about 22-23
Obi wan was born in -57 BBY and Maul in -53 BBY (battle of naboo took place in -32 bby)
"-57 BBY" is technically "57 ABY"
You have no idea how much this changed my life when I was a little kid I remembered all the choreography for Darth maul quiet on Jen and Obi-Wan I literally remembered everything and I'm 27 years old now and honestly the way Star wars has been going it's pretty sad but I'm really hoping the Kenobi series can make me think otherwise
Watch the fan edit
One little detail in this fight is how darth maul spends most of the fight focusing on the master (qui gon) and dismissing the Padawan (obi wan) till the end.
Which is unfortunate for him cause in obi wan’s later years he’s often considered one of the best lightsaber duellists in the Star Wars universe.
I love how at 5:06 that while in mid flip Obi Wan flips his lightsaber from one hand to the other, such a cool scene!
Fun fact about Maul is that he wasn't the original actor they chose to play him, he was the choreographer whose job it was to train the actors to fight in style
He was such a natural that they replaced the actor for him
From what I've been told
Hmm that is cool! He certainly did a good job at being sinister, and of course the choreography was awesome.
If you notice, that move Obi Wan does to kill Maul is the same move he warns Anikin not to try in Episode III.
Prog MetalDeity that’s how he knew to cut upward. Cause 1. You don’t use my moves on me and 2. The high ground
What I love that no one has noticed in the years that Obi-Wan's aggressive fighting style is very in tune with how the sith use their anger to strengthen their fighting. I think Obi-Wan used his hate for Maul to fight him and this is the only time you see him use Offense and brute attacks instead of him usually being on the defensive stance.
Darth Maul is cool, he's a really good guy in person too.
Fun fact, in the novelisation of the film it says that Qui-gon tried to push the fight into that corridor at the end as he felt it would hinder the siths long weapon!
The most badass duel fight in the prequels series!
they are all the most badass duels
Very nice from you to notice Obi's fighting style intensity at 4:50, that means he used his anger as a Jedi. Very good eye!
I watched this in theaters, it was amazing. The Phantom Menace was my first exposure to Star Wars and I love George Lucas Star Wars, not Disney Star Wars because of this movie.
i grew up with the OT and i saw the Prequels in theaters too ; and I love the Prequels they are awesome ; the OT and The prequels are awesome ; they are real star wars and Lucas is the master
Obi wans fighting style got more intense because of his emotions. He was using the dark side to fight out of anger.
"HWOOOOO, I FORGOT..."
I felt that.
OB1 tapped into the dark side in that fight and although it gave him a power boost, it unbalanced him so Maul got retook the advantage. OB1 is a master in defense and only after calming his mind was he able to win the encounter.
It made him rely too much on his emotions. In real fights, you don't want to get angry because it blinds you and makes you waste energy "working harder".
Just watching you react to this like a kid watching it for the first time is endearing to watch itself.
People say it was against the Jedi code and morals to lash out the way Obi-wan did.
But think of it this way, his own friend and mentor just got murdered by this guy, and he's next one up. Then he gets backed into a corner, looses his weapon, and weighs his options. It comes to a point where he just says to himself "I'm all for the code and anger is evil, but this shits gotta end" and cleaves him in half
Yep! Thats how I see it too. And I'm learning that the Jedi Code is flawed

The Jedi were always about calming your mind. So Qui Gon was simply meditating during the break in the fighting
Just because the prequels were bad doesn't mean everything about them is bad. I liked this duel in 99 and I like it now. The issue isn't with the duel but the dialogue, characters, and storytelling in the prequels.
In all reality, TPM might be the best of the prequels, because II & III's stories and overuse of CGI is all over the place.
the prequels are awesome and they use more practical effects than the OT ; all these new movies can not show a toilet or a mailbox or even a salt shaker without using cgi ; also The Prequels have the key
@Haku infinite true ; what i am saying is that the prequels used MORE practical effects than the OT and also that both the Prequels and The OT are absolutely amazing in my book
@Haku infinite the prequels used more practical effects and then also CGI and green screen because that was available and because Lucas again pushed the envelope on the way to tell an amazing story in my book
@Haku infinite the prequels are awesome ; if you do not like sand though i am sure you would disagree
@@steevrawjers uh... where to even begin. The prequels had their moments, but George Lucas massively dropped the ball in terms of pacing, dialogue, direction, acting, etc. The CGI used in the Prequels has not aged well. The chancellor's office, the Jedi temple, etc has not aged well. Neither have the battle droids or the randomly introduced General Griveous. The chancellor's office in particular, with the bright red color scheme with limited shadowing is particularly cartoonish. TPM has probably aged best, since they relied on mostly practical effects, limiting CGI for non-set related SFX. Attack of the Clones looks like hot garbage. Like they said in Jurassic Park, "Just because you could doesn't mean you should". Bottom line is Lucas needed a producer with oversight over him who could chime in when he went overboard, like Marcia Lucas (his oscar winning ex-wife) did on the OT. The same would be true for Jar Jar Abrams and his crack staff of screenplay morons who only know how to include nostalgic moments and mystery box mcguffins with trash resolution when it eventually comes around to finishing things up.
It still amazes me that Qui Gon died from a stab wound but Maul survived being cut in half because pure hatred. Like how much Maul was hated Obi Wan needs to be studied lol.
A lightsaber would hurt you like any kind of blade, while blaster bolts may not appear to do damage, they liquify your organs on the inside.
HOLY CRAP. I didn't know that about the bolts. And yeah I figured the blade kills a lot but figure it can cauterize certain wounds as well. I guess going through the body, breaking the organ is pierces is generally a no go though...heh
It a plasma sword i think
It's weird how Maul had no dialogue in the movie (that was titled after him), but would have much more speaking roles (especially monologues) in the tv show
Congrats, you’re making it on to everyone’s recommendations
I know this is late, but in the novel during this fight they take you through what's going on in the heads of them and Qui Gon is overwhelmed by the aggressiveness of Maul.
6:47 Hah, the master of two sabers beaten by a second blade.
Actually so long as the attack itself is not fatal you could very easily survive a lightsaber attack. Bleeding isn’t a problem since the blade would cauterize the wound immediately, so you could definitely survive dismemberment for sure.
"De ja vu I have been in this place before.."
I bet Maul felt real confident when he killed Qui-gon, a Jedi Master, but when Obi-wan sliced him in half, I bet the only thing going through his mind was "how?"
6:02
Yes, that's a hole
4:50 The anger Obi Wan feel against Darth Maul for killing his master pushed him to his Dark Side. The dark side unleash more power and abilities, that why his combat skills suddenly increased.
Yep and he’s still alive after that getting cut in half
He's not, nobody cares about animated sequels for kids. I'm not saying Clone Wars is not an okay series in general to like watch for fun, but it's a fanfic and it's not to be seriously taken as fucking Star Wars lore, just like all the bullshit around combat forms countering each other. Just no. The 6 movies are Star Wars. The rest is just a for fun content, including the sequel trilogy.
Jordun Petersen Ok boomer lmao
@@Bai_Su_Zhen didnt disney say movies, the CW show and new content they produce is canon? Guess it just depends in your preference for canon and who controls it.
Jordun Petersen there reason why George Lucas created clone war shows even talks about episodes like 1 and 2...even in rebels talks about these episodes even tho he didn’t make it...it still story of what going between the episodes...in the new video game that just came that part of another story it talks about how Jedi will rise after Empire ass fallen and even order 66...just because you think something just for kids doesn’t mean it’s part of the Star Wars trilogy
@@jonf.3444 and I definitely dont see this as a kids show...especially the further along it goes
(Darth Maul's appearence resembles the literal devil)
Gaxelle: Aww... He's such a little baby.
Fun Fact: Darth Maul actually lost to plot armor
Fun Fact: Darth Maul actually survived that fight
@@kuro_agito Fun fact: I said he lost the fight, not died.
@@politicalgamer9956 Did not try to correct you, just wanted to point out that he had plot armor of his own or at least the top half of him had.
I’ve always thought the reason Obi-Wan had so much energy when he attacked Maul was that Obi-Wan had time to rest. He wasn’t exerting himself for a couple minutes, and could thus catch his breath.
Please react to the full fight between anakin and obi wan including the dialogue at the end
This is something I will be watching, just not for a while :)
@@Gaxelle best fight in all of starwars, you're gnna love it :D
@@KingManHani Clone Wars had plenty of better fights.
@@gumfireparalax1371 im talking movies hahaha, clone wars was probably the best thing that came out of starwars hahaha
Just for reference, the actor playing Darth Maul (Ray Park) was originally a stunt man and also played "Toad" in the first X-Men Movie.
Great video! Can you react to Obi wan vs Anakin please?
We'll be saving that one for when she watches Revenge of the Sith as a finale to The Clone Wars!
Every man who ever lived wants to be in that fight. It defined a generation
IDK if I'm right but Qui Gon used the same form as Yoda, Ataru I think it's called. They were in too much of an enclosed area for him to fully utilize his ability, thus, Maul had the advantage.
A reaction that is not overreacted! Amazing!
It's funny you said "Like a Lion on the hunt" because I remember watching behind the scenes years ago and that was exactly what they were going for.
Yes i think thats what they were trying to say, obi got rly mad about qui-gon losing because of the advantage of the double-sabre and went ham. This is one of the best fight scenes ever made. Hopefully Ray Park returns in any future Maul cameos😀
When lightsaber fights had style. The last three were like watching kids on a playground with you see swords.
5:25 i warched so many star wars memes, I expected grivous running and junping after obis lightsaber „Your lightsaber will make a fine addition to my collection“
I love Mauls grunt at 1:33
Fun fact: Darth Maul actually used the force to open and close the red force fields to give himself an advantage.
Qui-Gon is one of the few characters who dies from a lightsaber wound. Even Maul survived
I love the part at 1:37 when Maul blocks Obi Wans attack without even looking
Obi tapped I to the dark side when he defeated maul, and even then it was maul being arrogant that allowed it to happen.
I believe Kenobi is praised for defeating the first Sith Lord in combat in a millennia but it's also chastised because dismembering or cutting an opponent in half is frowned upon by the Jedi... But damn is he good at it
"So you're pretty much dead if you get hit by a lightsaber."
Anakin losing all of his limbs: Hold my beer.
The entire "Duel of the Fates"fight with the trio and the scene where Obi Wan goes a bit more Dark Side and the fight scene is so quick and aggressive are two of my favourite moments of "Episode 1"(among many, because I loved the prequels, even Jar Jar. Thats right, you heard me!)
That's not that much of an unpopular opinion these days; have no shame
She's right in the statement about Qui Gon speaking to someone on the other side. He knew This was the way
The villains always seem to get horribly mutilated when they die in Star Wars. The heroes always have a quiet death. "Water my plants, feed my cat. Everything is getting dark. Save the universe. MTFBWY."
They never did explain why Qui Gon didn't fade when he died, did they? I always thought it was because he did not have time to prepare himself (it came out of nowhere), but has anything official been said about this?
Even to this day this duel always keeps me glued to my seat and full attention
Never fails to give me goosebumps
I liked how you described at as a lion pacing back and forth. I've never thought about it like that.
Obi got intense because he was angry
After watching clone wars and rebels, this fight has an entirely different meaning, this was the start of over thirty years of animosity between these two. Plus when Qui-Gon fell, Obi, briefly, touched the dark side, as we could see with his more aggressive style, and of course this was the reason Maul was able to throw him with the Force, the light wasn't shielding him. Great duel, a great showcase of Jedi vs Sith in Episode I.
