The term "genius" gets thrown around way too freely, but Jari Maenpaa is one of the people actually deserving of that title.
Both Kai - the Drummer - and the Bassist are currently playing with Nightwish
And the other guitarist is in Megadeth

Kai (drummer) and Jukka (bassist) are now permanent members of Nightwish and Teemu (the guitarist playing the blue guitar) is now permanent member of Megadeth. And Jari (singer + white guitar) has promised release of Time II album this year. Jari has been producing Time II since 2006 so expectations are pretty high.
and i rly hope jari will blow those high expectators minds again, so they can shut up with all their hater talk. Its hard af to make songs like this one all by urself

In addition, there has been talking about having an another album released this year in addition to Time II. That would be unexpected turn after so long pause.
@@MikkoRantalainen I can say with at least some confidence that it will at the very least be excellent. I've heard two of the songs from Time II on various live tours, most recently Storm a few years back when I saw them in Atlanta. It was an awesome song. Very much in the style of stuff on from Time but with some of the technical playing that was all over their first album. The other one I heard was the Way of the Fire but that was long enough ago that I don't remember it as clearly. I remember really liking it but thats about all. Either way I think patient fans will be pleased.

You should listen and react to the other two Sonic Pump studios rehearsals Sons Of Winter And Stars and The Land Of Snow And Sorrow. And of course the whole Forest Seasons album ;)

Jari, the vocalist are a mastermind who suffered from tuberkulosis during his military service and I think one of his lungs doesnt barely works since then.

For Wintersun with even more growling, check their "Sons of Winter and Stars". Or with less growling: "Land of Snow and Sorrow".
The Sons of Winter and Stars is considered the Wintersun business card - it contains a little bit of everything that they do in their whole catalog. But as a song, it's a bit worse than Time you reacted here. I personally like Time their best song and Loneliness the second best.

I honestly disagree, even though Time is my favorite song, SoWaS is a masterclass in composition, how Jari utilizes and develops the musical material during the song, how he constructed the 4 parts of it and how they talk with each other, it's just a thing of beauty. It might be a little too much for most people on the few first listens, but as you understand the structure and start paying attention to the melodies/riffs on the different sections, you see that it is an insane song.
@rd I totally agree that The Sons of Winter and Stars is insane song as a technical performance and as example of complex mixing of tracks and sounds. However, as a song Time is better, IMO.
If technical complexity was the only important thing for high quality music, we would be listening to Dream Theater only.

The band was founded in Finland by drummer Kai and singer Jari Mäenpää. Mastermind Jari has been announcing the fourth album for years, but hasn't released anything good. But this year the time has come. Kai and Jukka from Nightwish are also there. That may be one reason why Nightwish is taking a break.

@@Mischnikvideos I understood what you meant. I mean... Kai recorded his drums in 2006 for this upcoming album. Absolutely no way Wintersun takes any kind of priority over Nightwish. The man and his family needs to eat. They don't even have a tour planned. Jari continues to make future album(s), Teemu is on tour with Megadeth and Jukka has a new band.

Wintersun id from Finland... 2 members are currently in Nightwish - drummer Kai Hahto and bassist Jukka Koskinen... Formed in 2003 by Jari Maenpaa (vocals/ guitar/ keyboards), the line-up solidified in 2004 w/ Teemu Mantysaari (guitar), Hahto and Koskinen... (Teemu Mantysaari recently joined Megadeth on guitar)
Wintersun released their self-titled debut album in 2004 and it generated sales gradually and built a decent following... However, a second album was delayed for years.
The album 'Time I' was finally released in 2012 and it was well-received... Wintersun toured successfully worldwide on the strength of their 2 albums... 3rd album 'The Forest Seasons' was released in 2017... drummer Heikki Saari did the touring when Kai Hahto was busy touring w/ Nightwish... 4th album 'Time II' is slated for a release in 2024.
Wintersun - Sons of Winter and Stars from the same rehearsals is imho their best song which you should def. give a listen as well ❤

The one thing you can say about those harsh vocals at the start is they get your attention for sure after that epic instrumental part at the beginning. You know 5 years ago I wouldn't have given a band like Wintersun a listen because of those harsh vocals but thanks to Nightwish I now not only listen to bands like Wintersun or Jinger or Opeth but I am a fan of those bands as well. Who knew clicking on a Ghost Love Score reaction 5 years ago would have lead to that.

Jari wrote that song after he lost his dad ,he locked himself in a cabin in the finnisch woods and created that song

If this is more of a composition than a song, then 'Sons Of Winter And Stars' from that same rehearsal is a musical. That one has some intriguing vocal arrangements. These bands from the golden era of Finnish Metal are releasing new music at the moment: "KORPIKLAANI - Aita (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO). From Finnish Metal singers the most impressive vocals might have this gentleman: "AMORPHIS - Death Of A King (Official Music Video)". From the short hair Rock singers: "Poets of the Fall - Angel (Alexander Theatre Sessions / Episode 7)".

Sons of Winter and Stars is even more epic than this one on every parametre. Beastly Drums, Shredding guitars, great bass, awesome growls, backup growls, clean voice and clean backup vocals. You really gotta do this after the respons you had on this video. I think you will love it even more.

Yay Wintersun! Love them. They're heavy and magical! Your faces when he started screaming was funny. lol. Lulu just wanted to say the dude on the right was hot. That was the translation. Hahaha. I agree, girl. lol. In their song 'The Forest That Wheeps' you have a male bass choir I think Donna would love. But there's no video of them playing it like this one. If you want another song where you can see them play and sing, you should check out 'Sons of Winter and Stars'. It will blow your socks off!
The singer, Jari, is missing a partial lung from teberculosis, so his vocals reflect that. his voice is so versatile.
Wintersun is special, as in in pure amazing musicianship. TIME 2 is coming. Check out their older self titled album

Congratulations, you have found perhaps one of the most underrated metal bands out there, all top-tier master of their craft. highly recommend to other Sonic Pump studio's rehearsals Sons of Winter and Stars and The Land of Snow and Sorrow, In Finland we have this thing called metal ;)

We’re getting some new music from this band by the summer. Well technically it’s new because they’ve played one or two songs from the new album for years already.
Wintersun is one of my two favorite Bands of all Time, the other Band is „Eluveitie“, i would recommend to listen to „Aidus“, i am sure you’ll Love it 😊
🇫🇮❤ Great to see Lulu back. Wintersun is another amazing band from Finland, just like Nightwish. People say that Finland is the metal kingdom of the world with little over 700 metal bands per 1M inhabitants. No other country comes even close, just for comparison, the U.S. has only about 70/1M.

Excellent reaction ladies! Wintersun is my 3rd favorite band after Nightwish and Epica. Their music sounds like the soundtrack to an epic Nordic saga. Concur with others on their song Loneliness (Winter) from the Forest Seasons album. As someone who grew up in Northern New England and experienced many a dark cold winter, Loneliness is one of only two songs I feel captures the isolation and quiet despair of a winter's night (the other is the Quiet as the Snow movement from Nightiwsh's All the Works of Nature Which Adorn the World). The lyric video is quite beautiful, Written by Jari after his father passed in the middle of creating the Forest Season's album.
"Land of Snow and Sorrow" is my absolute favorite of that studio session. Can't recommend it highly enough.

I love Wintersun so much, easily one of my all time favourite bands.
You 3 really need to listen to the whole album this song is from, which is called Time I, when you get the chance. It is one of my all time favourite albums, it's an absolute masterpiece.
Also check out another song by them called Loneliness (Winter) from their album called The Forest Seasons. There are 2 versions which are both absolutely fantastic, the album version which is about 13 minutes long and an acoustic version which is about 8 minutes long. I absolutely adore both versions of that song, they will really make you feel things.

I wish that you would have reacted to Wintersun - Loneliness (Winter) Official Lyric Video instead (although I love all of their works). This one is very soulful with a deep poetic lyrics combined with beautiful clean vocals and perfect music. It was written after the death of the artist's father.
I don't believe there is a bad Wintersun song, but Loneliness, in my opinion, is just a tad higher up the list than the others. It is an amazingly beautiful song.
Lol y'all are fun to watch. I've been a huge fan of Wintersun since 2006. Fun fact, the three of you are talking about the long dark hair guy, his name is Teemu Mäntysaari, and yes he's awesome. But the lead singer guy with the long blonde hair, Jari Mäenpää, actually sings all of the vocals for Wintersun. Teemu is only singing backup here because it looks better for the music video and he helps sing backup videos live. Just wanted to let you know that Jari is actually the singer you all mean to be going on about. Because he is a BEAST! Glad you liked the song :)

greetings from Finland. Wintersun singer/songwriter Jari Mäenpää had a lung operation, lost 1/4 of lungs. Drummer Kai Hahto plays also band Nightwish , and Teemu Mäntysaari is the other guitar player. and the bass player is Jukka Koskinen.
BTW... "shoe guy" is now days fulltime Megadeth guitarist.. :)

Jari's voice is pretty incredible, even though he lost 25% of his lung function due to TB that he caught during his military stint. All of them are brilliant 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

If you ever want to here Jari Maenpaa scream for 47 seconds straight, just check out Sleeping Stars by Wintersun. Towards the end he holds a scream FOREVER and it gives me chills every Time.
