Thank you for this video! I love roll and writes and I've been trying to get a good idea of more of them to try and find some that will fit my taste. I think you did a great job of briefly covering each one and a wide range of them too, even ones I hadn't heard of, which is great!
If you have such strong negative feelings for some of these games, why do you still have them? That’s a question I need to ask myself too. I have a hard time letting go. : )
There are two of us in this household and we sometimes have different feelings about these roll and writes! If one person wants to keep them, they stay:)
Great video. It might take more time, but some B roll footage would be really nice for those of us who don’t know what the game looks like. Even better would be taking the viewer through a roll example and how it could be applied, or even just talking about a mechanism that gives each game their identity. Either way, the ones I recognize (clever and fleet) look like really enjoyable games.
I agree! I do offer cutaway shots of games in My Top 5 videos. About my favorite Roll & Writes: I've added so many new ones to my existing stack that I could stand to update this list:)
Dizzle so far 4:20 is my favorite out of the ones before. Do you ever sell the games you don't like we do. Fyi I may edit comment I gotta watch more lol
@@TabletopTolson oh don't go that route go on my board game blender on fan page. I have a place you could sell or PM me or add me as a friend facebook.com/groups/tabletopgamesale/?ref=share
Lol, so bitter about some of these :P Great video! There's a third "Clever" called "Clever Hoch Drei/Clever Cubed" but I haven't played it yet. The first two are pretty good though! Couple others that I like are Castle of Burgundy Dice and Kingdomino Dice.
I've played all 6 variants so many times and I ended up loving Twice as clever challenge 1 the best. For me, it hits thesweet spot between too simple and convoluted. It just flows perfectly. Really IS a clever game.
Nice video! I was wondering why some of my favorite games weren’t in this list, since they are great hits, but then I read in the comments that you’ll make a separate video for flip & writes (I still have to check if you did already). In these last, I’d include Cartographers, Trails of Tucana, Silver & Gold and Kokoro: Avenue of the Kodama, and for me all these would go on the green pile. As for roll & writes I didn’t see in the video, there are Qwixx (my first one, but only top of the yellow pile), Kingdomino Duel (low on the green pile because it’s only for 2 players), Railroad Ink (I have the Blue edition, since I’m a care bear and therefore the Red one is a nono; low on the green pile) and then the brand new Clever Hoch Drei (which I rank above both its predecessors, high on the green pile). There is also Three Sisters, which was a KickStarter that I backed but is yet to arrive (I predict it to be high on the green pile), and I DEFINITELY will enjoy Fleet: the Dice Game, but right now it is only in my wish list. EDIT: I just placed your videos of flip & writes and the Clevers comparison on my to-watch-later-with-my-wife list. Looking forward to them!
Your flip and write list is right on par with mine: I love Cartographers, Trails of Tucana, Silver & Gold and Kokoro: Avenue of the Kodama. Louis and I made an essentials flip and write video that you can find here: ruclips.net/video/iRggiOnhAes/видео.html
I backed Long Shot: The Dice Game but haven't received it yet. I learned how the game works and think it will be awesome, though! Can't wait for my copy. February can't come soon enough!
I think Metro X is great. It's categorically different (flip and write) for me, which is why it's not on this list. Welcome to is similar: great flip and write game.
I really liked Corinth. There is always a way to use the dice with a nice drafting mechanism. I'm also surprised you have no Railroad ink games. Great list and fun video. Now for Flip & Writes?
Hi Kim ... did you perchance (and if so, lucky you) get a copy of Explorers? It is available in Europe - but not in the US till March or so. It looks like a fun Flip and Write with a map (reminds me of Cartographers in a way)
Have you tried La Granja No Siesta? Hadrian’s Wall? Saint Malo? Castles of Burgundy Dice? Welcome to Dino World? Cartographers (flip and write) Cosmic Run? Rolling Ranch? Roll through the Ages? Some of those might make you wear a green sweater. :)
Nice list. I want to make a flip and write list much like the roll and writes (and Cartographers fits perfectly!). And definitely green shirt for Castles of Burgundy Dice and Roll through the Ages:)
Hi Kim, This is a great video! Our family loves Roll & Writes, and I totally agree with your rankings. I wasn't familiar with the "Ganges" Roll & Write so I just ordered it from Amazon; it looks great! BTW, I am currently developing two Roll & Write games. Let me know if you would be interested in getting an early/prototype copy; I'd love to get feedback from someone who knows/loves this genre.
Not a hard gamer, so roll and write games are perfect for me. First of all, about half of your games are unknown in France ! my most played is Encore et Encore (called Bravo for you), my last played is Imperial settlers roll and write. Castles of burgundy and copenhagen are on my list. you should try Trek 12 from Bruno Cathala.
YES! What a blip in my hunting process. The basement collection is getting far too big or my brain is getting far too small...one or the other. I would have placed The Castles of Burgundy: The Dice Game in my Green Shirt SMILES section for sure!
I'm sure there are several schools, community centers or libraries that would love to have these games that you despise enough to make a video saying how much you hate them. But of course this "hobby" is more about hoarding and having an impressive kallax than actually having fun and enjoying things.

I like what you did with your tops, very clever!
Also, good vid.
Thanks!
Loved how many games you covered in this video :) Thank you for making
Love the color concept and your too! Helps me know which games would be good for me! Great video!
The fact you included OctoDice. I’m so happy. I feel like it is a forgotten game. Cool list

We just started using www.boardgameco.com to sell our games because we live in a rural area and there aren't any opportunities to do so in person!
Also, keep in mind that I like some of the games Kim doesn't like.

I backed Three Sisters, too, and can't wait for that to come in! Fleet: The Dice Game is solid!
Curious what you think of long shot dice game since you love the board game so much. How about on tour, welcome to.., railroad ink, metro x?

Railroad Ink is a great suggestion and yes to the Flip & Writes! I love those!
Corinth is awesome! Not too light or heavy, lots of choices!!

Ooh, that sounds great. I don't have a copy of Explorers, but it's on my radar now! Thanks for the mention:)
Have you played Istanbul Dice? Love that one.
I have and like it a lot:) It feels like the original (Istanbul) with dice!
I really love Copenhagen R&W. Thanks for your great list 🙌🏻
great video!
Have you tried superskill pinball roll and write..I find quite fun
I have! It's a great solo roll and write. Actually, I plan to adapt that game to use in my English classroom this coming fall!
Qwinto and rolling America is all I need.
Quinto is great!
Surprised I didn't see Rolling Realms. Do you know about it?
Ah, I didn't have Rolling Realms at the time of taping:) It's a good one and I like how each round has three different cards you're torn between.
have you played stardew valley, the pc or mobile game. soo good if you like that theme
"since"
I got a chance to read the rules and play one round at a convention, but that's as far as I've gotten! Duly noted:)

Surprised that The Castles of Burgundy: The Dice Game is not on the list. The Castles of Burgundy is your #1 all time!
YES! What a blip in my hunting process. The basement collection is getting far too big or my brain is getting far too small...one or the other. I would have placed The Castles of Burgundy: The Dice Game in my Green Shirt SMILES section for sure!
I guess when the number of games in a genre is huge, the ones at the bottom will not be recognized.... for the most part.
Encore is much better as a solo game!
I might take you up on that suggestion. Nice!
When the yellow shirt shows up and it looks green to me 😝🤣
Funny… my family is totally addicted to Encore… we must be masochists or something :)
Hilarious
