4 years ago or so I purchased the SBGA375 Spring Drive timepiece for $4,500 from Feldmar Watch in LA. That was $700 below MSRP. It's a stunner. Sometimes I just sit down and look at the dial through a loupe and admire its beautiful details. Nothing quite like the smooth seconds hand sweep.
I've owned this watch for almost 2 years now. It did not disappoint especially when it comes to accuracy. The drilled lugs are a dream when I have to replace the bracelet with a strap. This is my first GS spring drive purchase and am quite happy with it.
I've always loved Seiko's. All of the watches in my collection that weren't received as gifts are all Seiko, Orient, and now Grand Seiko. I recently bought a Spring Drive GMT sports watch from Teddy's website after having been a fan of his content for a long time. I had a great customer service experience that is atypical for web or internet sales. A representative personally reached out to me via email and introduced himself, thanked me for my order, and offered to help if anything wasn't to my liking. What a class act! I love my new watch and I know where I'll be going for my next one. I almost bought a Snowflake, but I wanted to add a GMT watch to my collection.
I would, and did, go with one of their 9F models. The quartz is super practical and wears thin and light, and you still get all the finishing etc of GS without paying 5x more for a bigger chunkier watch
Because of Teddy, and my 60th bday and the blue bezel and all I have had a SBGP015 for the last 3 years. My daily wearer. Unbelievable. It has not lost a second of time! If I have to change the battery every three years -- so be it, this watch is a part of me. The other features like the Dual Pulse Control Motor and independent hour hand and backlash Auto-Adjust Mechanism are just magnificent. However, I plan to get a spring drive for retirement next year -- for Respect.
@@thenotanclan yeah I would say it is. It’s the safest most practical watch to get. Most of them work in any situation, never need maintenance outside of a battery and gasket swap every few years. What’s not to love, just a solid reliable watch
It's baffling to me how the Grand Seiko line flies under the radar as one of the top tier watches considering that they are technically one of the most innovative watchmakers and crafting's that rivals the Holy Trinity of watches and yes Rolex. Just my opinion though.
@@LagerPetrol409 It's been a while since I've worn mine and I've forgotten that I wasn't crazy about the bracelet. I wasn't a fan of the lightweight titanium too, but I grew into it.
At the price, the bracelets are less techy. And I still have one because their dials/finishing matter more to me. It’s Japanese. Traditional horology has no association to Japan. Seiko of the past may be akin to electric vehicles now - a generally better product with a couple faults, but very anti-tradition.
There is also the Seiko Kinetic movement, also a hybrid mechanical-quartz movement, but much more simple and less expensive than the Spring drive. I love the feel of the rotor in a quartz watch.
Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the MAMACOO, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
I've recently gotten into Seiko's automatic watch (been using Seiko quartz before) and after watching this video, now I want to get my hands on Spring Drive watches from Seiko!
After looking at all the pieces on Grand Seikos website I came across this piece. For the money it’s an incredible value with that Spring Drive. After I recover from buying my Oris Aquis I think I will go for this piece.
I *love* the spring drive concept. The silky smooth sweep is so captivating to watch. As others have mentioned, GS is really underrated in what they deliver. That said, I hope they don't suddenly become so popular they lose their value position ;-)
This is another beautiful watch from the 9R65 collection. It doesn’t have a blue seconds hand, it doesn’t have a titanium bracelet (the stainless steel bracelet looks a lot better), it has a closed case back with the GS lion, it has a different dial design, and the power reserve is not recessed into the dial; IT STILL IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY! It is an easy alternative to the Snowflake without any compromises and at a better price point.
Can’t beat gold polished Roman numerals that sparkle like jewels in the sunlight. Loving the sun ray dial man that pops!AMZWATCH watches. What a beautiful subtle piece.
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on AMZWATCH 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
What are the service requirements of a spring drive watch? Since you’ve removed the pallet fork and escape wheel that doesn’t necessarily decrease the need to lubricate the jewels on the train of wheels and their associated pivots.
Call the dealer see if you can actually get parts or service for seiko- I found service or parts impossible, but my experience my be different than yours.
I have a spring drive GS. My watch is +/- one second per month. It's incredible how accurate it is. It's what got me into watches. That being said I don't see the point of a watch that's not accurate so my watch buying started and ended with the spring drive 🤣
Spring drive, fully brushed bracelet with screw pins, and a beautiful textured dial for under 5k is incredible. Value aside this is one of the better looking GS dials I’ve seen especially with the painted power reserve indicator rather than the version cut into the dial. GS bracelets while they don’t have micro adjustment are very comfortable on wrist.
I got mine about 2 years ago. I tracked its accuracy, wore it for straight 9 months and it only deviated 35 seconds from my phone's time. on average 1 second a week. it is incredible.
I own the 467 (inky black dial variant) and it is easily one of my favorites. A GS that ticks so many boxes while maintaining class leading quality and a crazy good price. Hard to beat. Highly recommended. And yes….the bracelet is super comfortable and high quality (milled not stamped) only drawback is no micro-adjust.
Got a snowflake two years ago. Terrific watch - my weekday work choice. Bracelet sizing was a bit fiddy until I settled on a setting - not an issue after a few weeks. Looks nice on a dark blue leather strap too. Dead accurate - about minus 1-2 seconds a month.
I love the blue Snowflake and I'm going to purchase one when I have a little money to play with. It's a beautiful shade of snow blue and I love the blue accent on the power reserve. God Bless.
Although discontinued, I own a SBGA 285 with 9R65 spring drive. I believe it's now replaced with SBGA 467. I like mine since it's 39mm in diameter as opposed to the new 40mm. It's still keeping perfect time, and I even don't mind the bracelet. I know it's somewhat contentious with no micro adjustment for a luxury watch but it's very comfortable and fits my wrist perfectly.
I bought a SBGA083 which is 95% identical to this apart from the 083 having single bigger indices at 12, 6 & 9. The dial has Seiko at 12 and GS Grand Seiko at 6, before Grand Seiko became independent from Seiko. Beautiful sunburst dial with the same 9R65 movement for way under 2K if you haven't got 5K to buy this one.
Love the dial, love the case shape, it's a bit like a Japanese Omega Aqua Terra, that you could have for a one and done watch, IMO. Some rose gold hands and hour markers might make this piece pop, but it does look icy cool the way it is too.
Look at the Seiko Astron. Yes it is quartz watch, but has a solar cell in the watch face AND a GPS receiver. A timepiece by which you can set all others....
Teddy, I discovered your videos recently and I really like them. I have a question: I know you aren't a big fan of Citizen, but I really like them. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on their Carson series. I don't own one but have been considering it for a while. I'd love to know what you think. Thank You
I absolutely love watches, the high end watch brands are out of my budget but the AMZWATCH has literally an almost duplicate of every single watch on the market . Always a great but no matter your budget.
A gorgeous watch (as usual from Grand Seiko). But the power complication location often makes the hands look like hooks. It’s annoying like a fly crawling across film (showing my age). But thanks for the clear explanation on drives. It helps a lot when pricing watches. Though it’s a crime we can see Grand Seiko’s beautiful drives on the back (and I usually hate Skeleton watches). I can’t imagine how it work but I would like some jewels on the front.
As a watch enthusiast with NO budget, thank you MAMACOO for great-looking mechanical watches that I can afford! their are very clean, classy look, $150 each. I still watch videos about expensive “proper” watches, but I enjoy what I have

This spring drive watch does not appear to bring anything extra to the table despite costing almost 50x as much...
Spring drive is brilliant, and as a mechanical engineer in an electronics world I very much appreciate what’s going on inside. Unfortunately I can’t seem to find anything on their horribly slow website, and it seems if I want Spring Drive, three hands, no date, and no power reserve distraction on the dial I need to turn to a life of crime.

I bought the black dial variant the 467 and it is my substitute for the date just. The only thing this lacks is lume which would make it 10/10 for me. But then again, lume would distract from the elegance of the design
Just looked into the GS website and realized they increased the price. I love GS but 10k is a bit too much as I was planning to buy the new manual movement white birch.
