When he makes the pass at 4:58 you can see that he's really pushing to keep the lead: staying tucked, going hard. So much so that he runs wide at 5:22. Watching such a thing gave me the pucker factor here on my couch. Awesome stuff.

And congrats on winning round 2, just finished watching it on Kayo sports in Australia 🇦🇺 too bad about SG and the oil leak issue. Would have been epic to see both teams battle until the end!!!!

6:10 on the straight, you can hear the R1 (in 5th gear) is not wide open. Canepa was having fun paying with Guintoli. Great racing out there fellas, was a blast to watch!
@@kirkdoherty7116 He exited the Radillon very slowly, found a slow bike and had to close the throttle and downshift. He came out so slow that he had no speed on the straight.
I think the R1M 6th is geared as tall as possible.....Just to keep up with the competition. Using such a tall gear means everything leading up to using it has to be executed perfectly.

I think that has more to do with the rear tyre being not so fresh..

That straight is steeply uphill (even if you can't tell from the onboard video), so in fifth gear the bike revs very slowly.
@@BrokenToy68 it is steep, but watch the laps before when he is chasing. He revs 5th higher and also shifts to 6th. He’s toying with him there.
