    I don't care much for Sony gear + discussion but I just subbed because I saw your Explore v2 backpack review a while back and you make the best looking videos dude. Now you got me listening and following along to everything Sony. Congrats man - great stuff!!

    14:02 I think with a wide enough lens (as you might typically use with a seascape), I'd say yes, you likely can. I have done this with my A7rV, which has a stated 8-stop IBIS, and it has been very effective. I've been able to get sharp results handheld at as low as 1/2 second shutter from ~14mm all the way to ~35mm. YMMV, but Sony's new IBIS seems to be well optimized for stills.

      I’ve done as long as a 2-second exposure handheld with the A7RV with the Sony 14mm GM.

    You mentions doing astrophotography but not the lack of illuminated buttons. To me this is important particularly in cold nights when using globes.

      That would be nice! Although the drawbacks of using something like a nikon z8 for astro outweigh the benefit of having illuminated buttons… better off having muscle memory on the button layout

    You talk about weather sealing, but I was shooting in Alaska. The Canon of another of my group stopped working in the rain, while my A1 kept working with just the occasional warning message on screen from hotshoe. So my perception is the Sony weather sealing is no worst than other brands

    • @scb2scb2
      @scb2scb2 Месяц назад +1

      I assume you where using the hotshoe cover ? .. Sony has new hotshoe covers ready and i think they will start shipping them soon. They sometimes have them with them at demo's i played with one a few weeks ago. The downside is they are a little tricky to put on/off...

    • @jammaschan
      @jammaschan Месяц назад

      I mean there's the people shooting with nat geo with Sony buranos and fx9s just out there with no protection whatsoever in hard rain, sand, snow, everything, and they never had any issues, so I do think there weather sealing is probably pretty reliable.

      Ive never heard a story of a sony going swimming (fully submerged and surviving)… whereas ive seen firsthand a canon r5 doing just that… if only i could test this without actually paying the cost of breaking a camera🤣

    The tri charger you are using is not the fastest it slows down when more than one battery needs power. The claim (we still need to test) is that the new sony charger will charge both at full speed from 60watt powerbank or plug. This would make it very handy as a in bag charger.

    Mechanical shutter (at max 10frames a sec.?)
    ..can it be used in preshuttermode?
    I just realise that then it's sound alone would make preshutter unusable for me most of the time.
    Then, in e-shutter - mode
    (that I rarely use with A7r5) it better be good enough in ... 🤥

    Agreed! A1 II is THE only camera in Sony line that does great in all genres of photography. Congrats on the upgrade! Btw, how you like the tri charger? Does it read the battery level accurately? It seems so handy. Also do you use cfexpress A cards? If so, any recommendations? Now the OWC cfexpress a 4.0 is on sale. 960gb only $389! Just not sure if OWC is good or not.

    I can't believe that 4K recording is still subsampled or line skipped and not 8K oversampled like in the Nikon Z8 (8.3K oversampled 4K60p) or in the R5 (4K Fine oversampled from 8K up to 30p).
    The only oversampled 4K mode in the a1 II is the cropped APS-C mode. A flagship should be able to record full-width 8K oversampled 4K60p or at the very least 30p!

    • @jammaschan
      @jammaschan Месяц назад

      Seriously though, who's buying an a1 for video? apsc video is enough for most people if you really need the oversampled 4k.
      edit: also just to add, the subsampled 4k performs just as well as the fx3's 4k, so if it's good enough for hollywood, it's good enough for you. If you're recording externally, you can also get oversampled 4k from the full 8k readout. If you really need oversampled 4k in full frame, the a9iii exsists, and has better latitude too alongside global shutter, making it actually a better video camera than the a7siii.

    I'll just say this cause I say it on a lot of Sony videos but if you want a brilliant landscape camera that will blow the Sony away for image quality. Get a Fujifilm GFX. It's probably cheaper now to be honest and the image quality out of a GFX blows Sony and Nikon and Cannon away. I'm talking for image quality not speed not frames for second. I'm talking pure image quality and when you do those big prints on the wall 2 m x 1 m it will blow your customers away. Sorry for the Fuji film recommendation but honestly I wouldn't buy a Canon R5 2 I wouldn't buy this camera nor did I buy the Nikon Z8. I went Fujifilm GFX and I have not looked back.

    I would also feel really low not actually having taken the photo but I've pre-captured it. I do think that's cheating and I think it's stupid. It takes all of the skill out of Photography. Why do we want to keep making cameras that take more and more skill factor out is it because we think that that one photo we get is suddenly going to make the photographer famous? Guess what people? It's not in fact the more tech you pump into a camera what you find is people can turn professional within about a 4 to 5 month period of learning. You could grab one of these cameras and because it is so accurate you could not miss a shot and if you're not missing a shot it would get very boring for me quickly and I've said that about the Canon R5 2 I've said it about all of the high-speed cameras hence why I use GFX where it's still challenging to get the shot and I enjoy that challenge and you might think it's crazy, but I'm a professional photographer and I do really well but I can sit down and rest my head on the pillow knowing I took the shot not the camera

    • @CockpitScenes
      @CockpitScenes Месяц назад

      I don't mean to insult you, but I have known people like you in other fields. What an arrogant post. Do you still churn butter at home? To not do that would be "cheating". I fly jet transports for a living which have a lot of automation that makes the flight much safer and more efficient. Yet I still fly with some idiots that turn everything off and hand fly in bad weather conditions because "real pilots" don't use automation. You kind of remind me of them.

    • @kualilo

      The whole point of photography is to take a photo that you want to create or are paid to create. You make it sound like a photo isn't worth taking if you don't have the skills to do it. Maybe people who needs these cameras are the ones that are mostly already at the top of their game, but can't capture precise (in their minds) pictures because human reaction just isn't fast enough. Do you think a person with no photography/camera knowledge and skills can afford a $8K (after tax) just to practice skills? And why did you get a GFX? Because chances are your skills are not good enough and you want those extra resolution to crop later on.

    • @nevvanclarke9225
      @nevvanclarke9225 Месяц назад

      @kualilo You've missed the point.Photography is not about the final image.... If you get the process right?You get great images and I do very well in my professional photography. The gfx is actually quite a challenging camera to use.

    • @kualilo
      @kualilo Месяц назад

      @@nevvanclarke9225 Good thing we now have lots of tools to get to the end result we are after. I'm just saying that people don't tend spend $8K on a camera unless the need is there. And I highly doubt that it's about the skill when you spend that kind of money. Even a professional photographer will never spend that kind of money on a piece of gear, unless it can improve their workflow. Sometimes, skills can only take you so far. Have you ever sprayed and prayed at a professional baseball game or tennis match hoping to get that perfect moment when the ball deforms as it meets the racket? Those kinds of shots are the "money" shots. And in cases like this, LUCK is just as important as skills... until now.

      @@nevvanclarke9225 You can enjoy photography for the process, and you can also aknowledge that professional photographers will have a much easier time with precapture. If you don't want it you can turn it off.

    I would buy a Sony A9III before buying an A1, if you aren’t going to buy a A1 mkII. I think upgrades to the A1 will become fewer and further apart, because its technology is almost at an end. The A1 markII has everything that all of the ALPHA, ZV and even some of the FX series cameras have in one body.
    It still isn’t perfect and at its current price, you should have wave forms, false colors long gop and hard drive recording capabilities. As you stated Nikon and Canon have largely caught up and precapture and AI is the future for Sony and all of the manufacturers going forward. AI is the future going forward in almost everything.
