The reason IGN stopped making the jokes isn't "being bullied" that completely misses what happened to the games journalism as a whole at the time. Games journalism as a whole come 2016 was dying, in large part because completely disconnected from many of the writers the corporate interest had been exchanging good reviews for early access and money for a long time and gamers had caught on. The change happens around 2013 with GamerGate, what was about the ethical issue by 2014 had become entirely cultural in nature (much to the distaste of those on the GG side who wanted to focus on ethics). So many games journalism businesses started to change culturally to take their side in this conflict, this means any funny "awooga awooga sexy character" jokes were effectively excised on ground of "being sexist". We even saw articles proclaiming that "Gamers don't have to be your audience" which flies in the direct face of the gaming industry because who else plays games if not gamers? The lack of jokes isn't because they were afraid of being bullied, it's because the culture in the industry had shifted and there was (still is) a fear of making a joke which can be perceived as being some kind of "-ist". The reason you don't see the soul of newer stuff is because it has been sucked out, anything someone can say which might be funny could just as easily find them blacklisted from the industry entirely so why ever risk making a joke?

It really does not work well with midir.
honestly having the bow in guides like these make sense, as its easy to deal with enemies and vastly lowers mortality taking them out from a range, also bow generally easier to aim/more range than a lot of spells
It's absolutely the range. I doubt the guide writers are thinking it through analytically as opposed to trying a stupid number of things to figure out what works, but a running theme with bows in the Souls series in general (not just IGN guides) is that they are responsible for more boss exploits than any other weapon, many of which are things the average player never encounters, thinks about or even learns about. Case in point the Dancer exploit right at the start of this guide- I'm not sure spells would have the range to pull that off, iirc they move you forward slightly which would aggro the boss, and given the arrow stacks outside the wall, they may not even be able to achieve the same total damage pool. I think every game in the series has at least one boss you can kill from outside of its boss room with a bow, too.

You can only appreciate IGN guides when you know the monetization scheme behind them. It is like a moment of enlightenment of why they are so surreal and it makes total sense.
Monetization: flat rate based on views mulplier based on word count Scheme: guide is designed to be convoluted and give the player a very slow progress. this guarantees an increased engagement with the guide and the possibility of double or triple dipping on the same viewer per section of the guide.

Only 2 minutes in but man watching this live was a damn blast and can't wait for more content to come out
A fine spooky Friday to you, good sir! Thank you for yet more Souls content!
You can only appreciate IGN guides when you know the monetization scheme behind them. It is like a moment of enlightenment of why they are so surreal and it makes total sense.
I'm curious now, what exactly is the deal
What do you mean?
Please explain
Elaborate further please, dont leave us 22 hanging!
Monetization:
flat rate based on views
mulplier based on word count
Scheme:
guide is designed to be convoluted and give the player a very slow progress.
this guarantees an increased engagement with the guide and the possibility of double or triple dipping on the same viewer per section of the guide.
Another historic heroic Lenny does IGN Guide Video in the books! Loved the Chaos, The Cats, The Jokes and the wholesome Mom moments! Fr though those boss freeze strats they keep pulling never fail to amaze me, I'm always like "that can't possibly work" and it just works. scary good!
Yooooooo finallyyyyyy! You have no idea how much I've been looking forward to this! The grand finale of the IGN Guide series!
I think I see another speck of bingeable content in my feed; always glad to see these highly accurate and top-tier gaming guide videos from you Lenny :3 (props to the OG IGN guides too ofc)
Also I didn't know the FEBREEZE SORCERER that RTGame used in his series actually originated here; truly amazing lore, as befits any true entry of the Dark Souls franchise ^w^
Watched the whole vod of this run and now the video and it was like two entirely different experiences. Lenny you are brilliant this was a blast
Been waiting so long for another one of these!
First time I've seen a video on this channel and while youre great fun, your mum is an absolute gem, bless her cotton socks. She is where the real Lenny Souls began.
I think the “The true dark souls starts here” being something every player says at the start of an area is actually in reference to demon souls😂
Man, this video was just so wholesome and fun. I can't wait for the DLC video!
Going back to watch the earlier ones now
So these like "I played X but with Y guide" is how I found your channel and I really love this type of content. I never really enjoyed DS2 myself but I watched that one and LOVED every second of it and now seeing you picked up one of my fav games of all time. I am really hyped to watch this one o3o
Keep up the great work
Mum rolls in, kicks you out your chair, kills your character, drops cake on desk, leaves
Fuckin love your mum xD
Lets go! Love the series Lenny, keep the awesome content coming!
I really respect that the writers of these guides will do damn near anything to win but learn how to play.
These videos are one of the only things on RUclips that make me vocally excited for an upload
Hey Lenny. I have been watching you since the Dark souls experience videos since before you face revealed. I just wanna say I've always loved your content and can tell how much you love doing it. I hope you know we love you and want you to take your time between releases and never feel pressured. We know when you release a video it'll be a banger. You should also do more guide videos on other games once you've done fromsoft !
Can't wait for the Lies of P version and Lords of the Fallen version
I also can’t wait for when I get passed the tutorial of those games, so I can say. “The true Dark souls starts here”
The original or the remake of lords of the fallen
Ohhh lies of p would be a fun one to watch
@@BlarghMeow the remake the original is fucking awful compared to the new one
41:23 I just noticed your mom actually drinking the goku water 😂 what a legend
The cheese in this is some stuff I didn't even know with couple of thousand hours in the game, such as the Dancer cheese and the infinite backpaddling. Not bad.
Lenny just never fails to deliver! Banger vid as usual!
This is the content RUclips was made for. Thanks for another rodeo of laughs Lenny.
I am continually amazed by this man's dedication to following the guide TO THE LETTER. Even if it means running to the store at midnight
The edits honestly kill me. The screams and yays are just top notch
Has he really never heard of”The true dark souls starts here”? I actually love that bit in the guide.
I've been on a Dark Souls 3 bender again so this video came out at the perfect time
the crowd noises are killing me LMAO
This is where the true zerolenny begins
I genuinely love how positive and respectful you are to these writers, even when the writing took a turn for the not so great, you're still finding the best in them.
As hilarious and as great an editor you are, I think your best quality is your kind heart.
I cheered so hard when Lenny's mom came in the room. So wholesome.
I loved this lenny, i didn't expect the build to actually work! looking forward to the next video
Lenny's mom is one of the best parts of these. She's such a treasure, and im glad they have such a wholesome relationship.
Also I totally agree this guide has less soul in it.
Havent laughed this much in a while, Lenny truly is the Dark Soul (all along)
The PR story reminds me of that time I told the bride at a wedding thanks for coming.
I love the whole feel of this video. It's like this was a preformed in front of a live studio or something.
Watching these DS IGN videos have really been a blast. Surprised about the humor on the guides, honestly.
This was so fun to watch on stream
i barely finish a 10 minute but these series were so good i didnt skip a single minuute, gg bro
These IGN guides aren't cringe, they're peak 2000's internet culture.
Lenny mate I love your soundboard in the edits. Every time I hear the Eric Andre show guy go YEAH, that's me, that's how I feel in real life. I love it.
Bro what the hell, mate is actually cracked at Guitar Hero. Biggest surprise of the video.
Please continue the IGN guides stuff, it's so genuinely entertaining
