mine got the water test in cancun when I was hooked up to a 25-30 pound jack crevalle and had to get off the jetty into the water to maneuver the fish away from the rocks that started off 4 ft deep but ended up in water above my head, but the reel was under water for about 15-20 minutes most of fighting the fish was in around 4 ft deep so the reel was submerged the whole time and cranked perfect drag was perfect and I did land the fish , got back to my room at the resort and opened it up and it was dry, this Is a great reel
I have four Slammers and an 8500HS. Absolutely love them. Easily handling 35+" Snook on a 4500 size reel! Those drags wow! And I'm really liking the Clash II series too. A 2500 and a 4000. Penn really has stepped their game up over the last few years...
This was painful to watch, but you've convinced me it's a quality product. Thanks for making this video. I'm an avid user of the Penn Pursuit line of spinning reels.
Looks to be a great reel from Penn, especially for the price. I've seen all of the youtube tests you conducted and the reel has performed and held up really well. Thank you.
Mine went for a long dip underwater yesterday as I tipped off my kayak. About 4m of depth, had to fish it out. Lucky to have found it in murkey water. Just opened the gear box to discover water had penetrated it. Treating it now.
I found that the gearbox is very well sealed and it is very unlikely any water will get into it ever the only sealing problem is at the main shaft an pinion... after some mild splashes throughout this past season, i opened up my slammer and found salt deposits on the AR Clutch and bearings for the pinion gear
Hope you are well. Could use your professional advice. I purchased the Slammer 3 6500 for inshore ( I know I could of got away with the 4500 or 5500, but I wanted manual bail and the 6500 was less than 2 ounces heavier than the 5500). Anyway need advice to match a rod. I need a rod or rods for both lure and bait inshore fishing. What do you recommend.
I love your videos...you seem to be a pretty common sense, real fisherman kind of guy....I surf fish a lot of Georgias barrier islands, but bormally it is from a voat casting inshore...The SSV meets my needs 90% of the time...I do carry a Penn Torque Spinner on occasion when tarpon fishing...and am tring out a couple of Fin Nor OFS this season...I am going to get a couple Slammer 3s when they are available next month and try them out...they seem like a cheaper alternative to the Torques...
the slammers seem great, but unfortunately, being 15, i cant afford those high-end reels and im forced to resort to the pursuits, battles, and fierces lol
+James Steinberger Hey, I hear you...I am a big Battle fan...I think it is the best per dollar deal out there...The Fierces are ok...but frankly are pretty low end...but for for inshore work, they get the job done...just need to be maintained correctly...
Fishing is my big pass time and I have a couple dozen Penn Rigs, from the Fierce to the Torque...I have a couple Fierce's and they are fine, just make sure you keep them out of the water and regularly lubricate them and they will last years...where do you fish? We are out of coastal Georgia?
I dunked my new 6500 for about 15sec or so in 2ft of water, gear box had a significant amount of water in it. Also the seal under the rotor nut was damaged. returning the reel for another and if this one cant survive a dunk or has another bad seal im done.
Zeno, if you mentioned it I apologize, kids are making it hard to hear anything! is Penn offering the Slammer 3 in a bailless version? Thanks for the reviews. you do a excellent job with S.C.J., I really enjoy your magazine. Great Stuff! Thanks
Getting fishing reels dunked in water it’s just a reality for short women wading out to cast in the waves. I simply can’t cast as far. and if the choice is between catching fish and keeping the reel dry well, I’m gonna catch the damn fish.

"3 guys that do it and 3,000 guys who pretend to do it" I love it! No truer words ever have been spoken

Z. Audio has an echo
This video will be the one most would be interested in checking out.. Thank you for the superb water test
there is a drop of water on the slide rod. Granted it probably got on there when you removed the cover, but its there.

bastarddsm how was the second slammer?
Just buy a Van Staal VR series reel and you'll never have to deal with these issues ever again.
@@JAY_SS88 just open and inspect your Slammer in store or when it arrives for a QC check.
@@carlose6010 I'll do that for sure before I buy one. Thanks for the advice.
what size is the reel in the video
I'm still waiting for a 2000-2500 series on this reel for inshore fishing on shallow waters :(
Awesome review love it
Good video. What reel size was that?
lost my handle cap. Is it still water proof?

No bail-less version. The larger sizes are manual bail only plus a rotor brake.
+johndtuttle. thanks john
best reel ever
Do a Penn Spinfisher V 5500 water test
What rod was that
What rod it that
Always enjoy your videos, well done. One question, who makes the holder that you have your Boga in? Thanks
At 4:50 what size penn slammer you using sir?
Why can I see water and you don't ?
take the spool off and look underneath the sand and saltwater will destroy it
has anybody noticed besides me that this guy talks like Christopher Walkens ?

What makes this better than a new spinfisher SSV? As the SSV has more seals no?
has much more drag
It is much better sealed than an SSV and it has much stronger gears.
CNC brass gears, dura drag, higher drag rating.
At 4:11 you are not in the shot.......video ruined creditably as result !!.......could have switched rods !!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
