Single Girl is a song written by Martha Sharp. It was an international hit for American singer Sandy Posey from late 1966 to early 1967.
Sandy Posey recorded "Single Girl" in Nashville, Tennessee on August 19, 1966. Although not strictly a country song, her rendition gave it a country feel - a style that some years later was often referred to as "countrypolitan".
"Single Girl" was produced by "Chips" Moman and released by MGM, reaching number 12 in the US sales charts in January 1967 and number 15 in Britain. It was re-released in 1975, and it entered the British top 50 again. and, as Posey's signature song, appeared on a number of compilations, including a Posey retrospective, A Single Girl: The Very Best of the MGM Recordings, in 2002. The sleeve notes for the latter drew on an interview with Posey about her time at MGM.

I don’t know where you find these wonderful videos, but thank you so much for posting them. This song was on the jukebox in my high school. It sounds just as good now as it did then.

The beautiful quality of blending the sadness, tragic and truth is a strange kind of ear candy I cannot get enough.....I love her so much.
I wonder if she had won the Grammy if her path would went differently.....she was up against really big names at the time.

I'm British and I didn't really know of Sandy until the late 80's when I moved to The Netherlands and a music lover called Fred introduced me to her. I really can't understand why She wasn't a big hit in Britain, I think she is great.

Fabulous and timeless! Breezy female anthem for finding Mr. Right! The lyrics are sheer poetry, the music is country-ish and perfect! Sadly, she died 4 days ago at this writing.

The single girl all alone in a great big town
The single girl gets so tired of love letting her down
The life's unreal and the people are homely
And the nights can get so lonely
The single girl needs a sweet loving man to lean on
I'm a single girl wondering if love could be passing her by
I'm a single girl and I know all about men and their lies
Nobody loves me cause nobody knows me
Nobody takes the time to go slowly
The single girl needs a sweet loving man to lean on
I gotta make my own way
    There's rent I gotta pay
I need a night-time love to get me through the day
I'm a single girl all alone in a great big town
I'm a single girl and I get so tired of love letting me down
But there's a man I've yet to know
Waiting somewhere I've yet to go
Someday I'll have a sweet loving man to lean on

First off great song by the late Sandy Posey. One of my faves. Looked up these reel to reel comps, and they were 1959 IBM model 729's. . You can actually see how they work if you do a search. They had that '60s TV sci-fi vibe to them. I never knew she performed her hit in a video. Thanks for uploading it.
