I played this so much back then. By play, I mean I would go gamble at the daily wheel and etc and then go to the donation tree and hope to pick up more than dung. My most prized possession was a Strawberry Paintbrush that i never used on any on my neglected pets. My neopets were definitely dead.
I just started playing neopets again yesterday for the first time in 15+ years and I appreciate that the website looks the same as it did back then. I truly hope they update the mini games to be compatible with modern computers now that flash isn't a thing. This video has been so insightful! Thank you for giving all the background info for this site that has been near and dear to many of our hearts for so long.
I think the Neopets franchise needs to expand & try more game genres until something sticks. Makes something low budget, treat it like a demo, take user feedback, & make, sure the sequel is polished. I played a lot of pet games. Neopets, the spinoff Petpet Park (wish they'd bring that back), Ovipets (still great), Flight Rising, Chicken Smoothie, & a ton of others that shut down ages ago.
Recently came back, as for best memories, Altador cup, playing it with friends, trying to collect trophies and possibly the biggest one Keyquest (man I miss Keyquest)
I've been playing Neopets regularly for the past couple of years, on an account I made when I was 10 that thankfully hadn't been purged. It's a really exciting time right now because there's a new plot happening! Tbh the plots are one of the things that makes a game like neopets unique, with sitewide events that add to the lore of the world. There's still plenty to do if you don't want to participate, but it's really cool to take part in and engage with the worldbuilding in that way. Also I high key want to rip off a neopets plot as a D&D game, I think that would be fun. The site does still need a lot of repairs, but there's been a lot of progress recently, which is good. I also agree that they're going to need to do more to draw new players in. I think right now it can be really intimidating for new players as there's a lot of complexity to it right now. But TNT has been tackling some issues, like the crazy inflation on a lot of rare items.
My favorite neopets memory was of a minigame that was like a boardgame, I think it had 3d models and it was desert/Egyptian themed, I had so much fun playing it, and then one day when I tried to play it was no longer available... It was still listed and you could still click on it but it was unplayable, I was so sad and I'd try accessing it every day. I did try playing Neopets again around the time when the mobile open beta happened but the site was so barren and boring, I gave up on it. But i know a lot of people that still play it daily!
4:50 no way that high of a percentage was 18 or older. probably just kids presenting as older to either look mature or feel like they would have to be 18+ to use the internet

Do you still play Neopets?
As of yesterday, yes! My pets of the early 2000s are long deserted, but it feels good to be back.
I hacked my friend account back in the day and poisoned his neopet

Agreed, still it wouldn’t necessarily be too surprising considering the original concept was for university students.
Memes are cringe mate, but overall video is very good
Lots of content creators do it that i watch like ggmanlives but they probably do it better.

I remember playing it as a child and getting bummed out because so much of it required a membership to get all of the cool things.
When was there a membership like that?
