Here is my theory about hambies: First of all, I'm really sorry for the bad English. Well, one of the major reasons is fearlessness, But if you look more into it, there is one more major factor which turns someone into a hambie. it's the DESIRE of that particular person. In Gwinam's case, he literally wanted to kill cheongsan/gauge his eyes out and it was the desire that's left INCOMPLETE before he got bit. Thus he turned into a hambie. Namra's desire was to save her friends and suhyeok and to save herself too, as the director said in one of the interviews. It was also INCOMPLETE before she was bitten by Gwinam. In Onjo's dad's case, he just wanted to save his daughter even though he dies, and his wish/desire was accomplished when he saved his daughter as well as the other kids. The Teacher(Ms. Park) had the similar desire i.e, just to save the kids. Hence instead of turning into a hambie even though they were fearless, they became zombies. But in the case of Jimin, her desire was to take revenge on zombies, she got scared easily and thus turned into a zombie. In conclusion, if one is strong enough mentally and physically, and has a strong desire that's incomplete, then probably he/she can turn into a hambie instead of a zombie. I also think cheongsan can turn into a hambie because he really wanted to protect his friends and wanted to live a happy life with Onjo, which became unfulfilled. I know this is stupid but anyway, I loved the show and literally look forward to S2! Everyone, have a great day!

I think he wanted onjo to know his feelings and now that he told her before he sacrificed himself could mean that his desire has been fulfilled. I also think there's no way for them to be alive as the flames ended up enjulfing them as they were landing on the zombies. Plus cheong looked so lifeless covered in ashes. Anyway I don't mean to be so negative because I know people want the character to be alive. Also I read that the directors are looking at the possibility to bring him back in a way that makes sense. Maybe Namra is talking to Cheongsan when she said 'They're back' since hambies have good hearing. He never showed up probably bcos he was attending to the leftover zombies. Cheongsan is definitely alive as the fire did not engulf him.
If you see at the end where the fire is “burning gwi-nam and cheong-san” you could see how gwi-nam was getting fully burned and gwi-nam can’t die so he is also probably alive but has some burnt marks since he was the one who got burned the most/first and like he said it was at the edge so its not as painful or damaging as the middle area which then he could still be alive same as gwi-nam.

When you go to 13:42 You can see Cheong San and Gwi nam but Gwi nam is the only one who is burning and Cheong San body isn’t. One of his shoes and his body wasn’t there that much but the only thing we can see is On Jo name tag.
So this is my theory about hambies is that: When you're bitten in the arm, it will resault with you becoming a hambie, which for example, in the scene where Gwi-nam bit Nam-ra while defending su-heok, so as you can see, she got bitten in the arm like what happened to cheong san, Well i have another example Min-jae and Na-yeon, they were bitten in the neck, maybe its up to where the bite is and where the virus is spreaded, cuz even tho they both got bitten by a hambie, not like nam ra who became a hambie when she also got bitten, but the others who got bitten in the neck got into a fully zombie, so thats my theory.

Cheong San is still alive cuz on the scene where gwin nam and cheong san was falling while the fire was there gwin nam was burned and turned to ashes but cheong san though at last moment we see the fire wasn't spreading on cheong san's top half of his body and we didn't see him like turn to ashes instead we just saw him get consumed in the fire also cheong san is a hambie cuz the scientist had blood on his nose but he was a hambie so meaning cheong san is a hambie and lastly when the scientist talk about the virus evolving or something like that they turn into a hambie like namra and gwin nam but hambies can be killed by fire and we saw at the last moment when cheong san was about to hit the ground we didn't see him turn to ashes so what if this virus has a evolve were the host has resistance to fire. we have to be honest: Cheong-san was burned as well, because the flames engulfed both of them, we didn't see him burn to ashes because in the final frame fire cover them both, but it makes no sense he was still intact while only Gwi-nam burned to ashes. If they're really immortals or superhumans maybe they also can recover from burns. After all normal zombies die with wounds on neck, smashed heads and if they fall from an high floor, but the variants seems they can't die even with these, so perhaps even the fire has no effect on them. Honestly i got e felling Gwi-nam is also alive. When the missile was launched he was still for the loud noises, Cheong.san could have leave him be and jump down, instead he choosed to bring him with him, and I don't think for make a shield, but to save him.
Not trying to crush your dreams but let’s be realistic. Cheong San could still die from that. Especially of a long fall that was. The whole building was literally filled with fire.

I have another theory of hambie What makes someone become a hambie instead of zombie is their willingness to live is bigger than the virus'. As told by Byeongchan himself in class that parasite could takeover a host not because its weaker than the virus, but the virus' willingness to live is bigger than the host. At the moment Gwinam got bitten, he didnt mind anything but really wants to live to kill Cheongsan. For Eunji she also really wants to live cuz destroying the phones was the only thing she had in her mind. Byeongchan, the only thing he wants at the time is staying alive as long as possible to hold the zombies and buy the detective some time to run. And for Namra its a lil bit different but similar, she didnt even know that Gwinam was a hambie (which technically is a zombie) so when she got bitten she didnt even think of dying or turning into one, cuz it was just a bite from a normal guy.
Here's what I thought watching the series: I think the virus choosing a hambie host is a SUPER rare phenomenon, and also VERY coincidental. Just like a car accident, a rare natural disaster, a rare disease, maybe there are humans with blood immune to the virus. I don't remember byeongchan becoming a hambie though, it was never confirmed. The only true hambies (with immunity) were Gwi nam and the bullied girl who didn't want pictures of her online. (They both had serious short-term, vigorous resolutions before they died: gwi nam wanted to gouge out cheongsans eye, eunji wanted the videos deleted. Namra and cheongsan both had long term determinations (to live with their friends safely), but the real reason nam ra became a hambie because gwi nam bit her, transferring his immune blood into namras blood. So since gwi nam also bit cheongsan and Cheong was conscious for a very long time, I believe he became a secondary hambie like nam ra who recieved the immune blood from gwinam. (Also zombies take 5 minutes to turn and Cheong didn't turn until the blast, which happened long after the group were far into the forest). So the fearlessness theory might be coincidental, specially since a lot of human turned zombies were also fearless before they turned (onjos dad, joon young, etc) Edit: I just remembered minjae (the male arrow dude) and na Yeon were also bit by gwi nam, but they didn't become hambies. Probably because gwi nam bit these two in the neck (to eat them) but he only bit namra and cheongsan in the arm.
Just finished. Watched it cause of the Twice reference. Here is my theory. Cheongsan for sure is a hambie. No doubt. He is very important. As you said for a surprise for everyone… maybe as each bitten person “evolves” or mutated just like a normal virus. When Jimin got bit, she got bubbles. A new mutation of the virus. Now, why can’t we apply to hambies as well? Cheongsan, being bitten and the. Turning into a hambie, what kind of new evolved hambie powers or attributes can we think of? Maybe Cheongsan’s blood can is a new anti virus cell that eventually made him control “hunger”. As in normal biology, that’s why vaccines are made. A tiny dose of the disease so the body can fight it and control and have a way of fighting it. Hambies are half humans and zombie. Why can’t the human half still have human functions and create a cell that keeps the hunger zombie cells off. As hambies thrive, they begin to have this. Cheongsan has this too, that’s why Nam-ra was so clean and civilized. Maybe, Cheongsan is special and his blood can make hambies and cleanse them from hunger? This is a wide theory of Cheongsan. It’s weird. Another is temperature. Cold. It was snowing during the last ep. And the average temp for zombies and hambies are cold. So maybe when the weather is the same as their’s they have no hunger and have an ease when it’s cold. That’s what I’m thinking. Can’t wait to see season 2.
Was it only just me who was kinda sad that Cheongsan was bitten but even more sad that his eye was gouged out? That hurt me more than when they showed him falling with gwinan
what about nayeon? she had weak moments but she wasn’t super scared.. also i feel like if they had a really big star (like lee yoomi) in the season, i’d keep that person alive it would make people watch more
An outlier to this is Oh joon-yeong, He sacrificed himself after getting bit. He did cry, but that doesn't make him less fearless. There must be another factor along with fearlessness that turns people into hambies. I think what lee byeong chan said that, if a virus mutates and learns of human consience they will be unstoppable, is the reason gwa nim and eu jin are still alive. Gwa-nim bit nam ra which must have transfered the mutated virus to nam ra thus turning her into a hambie. This could also be the reason cheong san could be a hambie.
If based on this theory they should be. Joon Young got bitten while proctecting the group and Wu Jin took the bite for his sister, but they are not hambies. We saw Joon Young and Wu Jin turn into zombies
i dont think cheongsan became a hambie. remember that archery guy? gwinam also bit him but didnt become a hambie. and that archery guy is fearless, he's brave so why he didnt turn to a hambie?
What about on-jo’s dad? I thought he was only scared of on-jo dying. he hadn’t showed any fear of dying, only the thought of his daughter dying scared him. Yet, he still turned into a zombie as you can see in one of the shots when the zombies at the school were following the drones. Does it count?
Here is my theory ( I’m not smart lol ). But it does have something to do with fear. When the mice are scared they produce different testosterones compared to the ones that are not. That being said it doesn’t say that it doesn’t apply to humans because we also produce chemicals in our body when our brain reacts to something. I think that if you are fearless your body produces a chemical kinda like adrenaline in a way(not actually sure just seems like something comparable). There for making the virus compatible to adapt to the hosts body/ consciousness. The regular zombies that turned may have not had the same reactions/ testosterone boost to accept the virus there for killing the host and the virus taking over instead as the show said. I think that the factor is that a humans brain must produce a similar testosterone boost (like the mice) before getting bitten to adapt and survive the virus ex: being fearless, like an adrenaline boost. If the hosts brain does not produce a strong, or specific testosterone when bitten then the host will be killed and the virus will take over. As the virus is based of a testosterone sometimes the human body is unable to accept such a vast amount there for if the host is also not compatible to accept such they will also die and the virus will take over, even if they produce the same chemicals and requirements.
Fear=Weak Host I said the same thing about COVID-19. Not saying it is this way for all people. But... Everyone around me was so afraid of getting it and talked/acted scared all the time. I, while recognizing it was a real problem and we need to be safe, had no fear at all. ALL of those people I knew got Covid. I had even interacted with so many people with Covid, but never got it.

I don't know if anyone noticed (I noticed while watching this) but at 5:00-5:05 when the explosion happened. You can see that Cheong-san used Gwi-nam as a shield, and you can see Gwi-nam's body like burn but, Cheong-san's body didn't look like it was effected by the explosion. But who knows, I don't really know what I'm talking about.
The helicopters announced for the survivors to either go underground or leave the city before the bomb blast. Cheongsan fell inside the lift hole which is quite below the surface. Also we can see the name tag of Onjo , it wasn't destructed, so there's is a chance that bomb didn't had effect on him too. The director has given so many hints that Cheongsan is alive.
Also think about this: When Nam-Ra held On-Jo's hand and smiled it almost felt like she wanted to tell On-Jo that Cheong-San is among the group of "hambies" but then realized/remembered that Cheong-San told her he'd want to surprise her. Plus when Cheong-San fell with Gwi-Nam he used his body as a shield to protect him from the flames and the scene where it's showing the bodies down the elevator shaft it's like the director wanted us to believe Cheong-San was among those dead bodies by placing a burnt hand next to On-Jo's nametag but I think that was Gwi-Nam's hand as Cheong-San was alive underneath his body.
If you really think about it Cheong San might be a hambie because when he was bitten by gwi nam firstly he didn't turn as soon as he got bitten he got the chance to distract the zombies and so on and most importantly the way he fought with gwi nam we can pretty much tell that he's a hambie because he was strong indeed but not as strong as gwi nam because we have all seen how he made nam ra fly by just hitting her. Here is my personal theory about Cheong San - he isnt a regular hambie because if he is going to be in Season 2 and survived the blast/fire from the bombing in the first season, then he must have a new ability like super regenerative properties, extreme durability, or becoming fireproof aside from the usual super strength like you discussed.
Spot on analysis. I think Cheong-san may have survived. I also think that he may not be a hambie or a zombie. His love for Onjo and his friends may have led to immunity.
I have a theory that onjo is immune from the virus. 1. Remember when an infected hamster doing something in her foot. I think she was bitten. 2. When a female student who was bitten by the infected hamster in the science lab tried to bite onjo in nurse clinic. I guess she was bitten. 3. When a student-turned-zombie didn't bite her while the two was on the canteen's floor for few seconds.
One more reason that Nam-ra didn't became a zombie could be that they didn't know at that point of time that gwi-nam could infect them or that he is a hambie. So nam-ra didn't feel that life threatening fear when gwinam bit her coz they both thought it was just a normal human bite.

Gwi Nam was actually afraid when he got bitten. He begged Cheong San to save him. So although the theory about being fearless to become a hambie sounds logical, it does not apply to Gwi Nam.
But in the end he was saying he'll kill Cheong San without fear he sneaked in the scientists lab when he said the human body gets scared then the virus feeds on fear so I'd someone isn't scared and becomes a monster
@@dvxshx No they can’t because both the host and the parasite (the virus) would be burn to ashes due to a relationship of parasitism the virus need the host’s body cells to survive; if the body die immediately after being taken over by the virus it means that they are just empty barrel being forced to move around due to the virus controlling their nervous system therefore the fire would extinguished the zombie as a whole with both the host and the parasite dead.

It’s really gives me hope I also think that hambies heal way faster then normal look at gwi-nam his eye, cuts and damage from falling and he healed of it way faster then normal. So maybe this means cheong-san would heal way faster if he was burnt a bit in the blast and maybe even his eye could heal you never know

This is the plot hole that annoyed me with that theory… another think I think all the hambie’s have in common is they’ve all seem to have given up on humanity.. they all in some way struggle with what society is and what they stand for..
they think cheong san is alive they didnt see him turn. if they saw him become a zombie or if the group finds his dead body im sure they will stop making theories about how he is alive

Answer to the Humbie (half zombie and half human) isn't actually being fearless... if it was then Onjo's dad could become a Humbie too.. and more students who fought back against zombies.. The reason why there are humbies because they are "exception"... they have strong immune system.. they are the lucky ones in the world.. just like during covid some people were immune to virus but still carrying a deadly variant
Well it’s different for On Jo’s dad. He wasn’t scared of the zombies, but because he was able to see that his daughter was away from danger, he felt like his job was done and he didn’t have a purpose anymore, hence why he turned into a zombie

The bite of halmbies kick in much later then normal bites. We know that because namra got her symptoms way later. And the suicide girl bit her friend at the quarantine place but he didnt turn into a zombie immediatly. He was laying on the ground and didnt turn for like 30 min

The basic key element to become hambie in the series was all of those hambie were having some desire/goal to full fill and they were not scare to die from zombie thats why the virus couldn't control the strong host fully and they turned into hambie.
I like the theory about the fearless, BUT if you remember -joon-yong, the guy chose to save the whole crew in the covered court? -Also the female teacher was projected as fearless before she died. -and the clear one is On-Jo's father. They all are fearless before they die so it's being fearless is not a consistent theory here But I'll give you a different angle, if you remember in Episode 1 when the professor explains to the class that a virus is an individual organism so survives at it's on will to live? He emphasized it more by saying "Strong will to live" and then he emphasized it further with the example of the parasite in a snail. The parasite survives not because it is more intelligent than the snail, it survives because in it's strong will to live stronger than the snail. So I think all the hambies has a strong will to live during their infection. Hambie #1 has a strong will to get her scandalous picture to be erased. Hambie#2 has a strong will to get revenge And so forth. And lastly, the clear thing about the Jonas virus that was mentioned is "if this virus learned the mind of its host, then the host will turn to a new breed". I think that was mentioned in the episode right after gwi-nam turns into a hambie

This is my personal immunity theory (although it’s probably a pretty common one) I don’t think immunity is from fearlessness. Gwinam was scared when he was bitten. I think it has to do with a strong, centered, emotional goal/motivation as well as a resolve that lasts even after being bitten. Their motivation also needs to last throughout the entire turning process. E.g Gwinam - To kill Cheongsan/get revenge Eunji - Delete the photos of her Namra - Is in love and has something to fight for in the first time in her life. She also resolved to not hurt her friends. She came close to becoming a full zombie but with her newfound affection, determined restraint and smarts, she made it through. She also never accepted her fate because she didn’t think that Gwinam was a zombie to begin with so her motivation to survive would’ve stayed consistent before and after the bite. She didn’t feel fear or accept her fate as a zombie because she didn’t even think that Gwinam posed that kind of threat. This also explains why Soju (Namra’s dad), Mrs. Park or Joonyeong didn’t become hambies. Although the had a strong resolve and emotional motivation, once they were bitten, they accepted their fates. It didn’t have to do with fear, rather it was that their motivation to stay human wasn’t strong enough. They didn’t last the turning period. Fear definitely has a component since many abandon hope, succumb to their fates or forget what they’re fighting for. The second they hesitate or feel fear, their emotional drive is compromised and their chances of survival diminish.
Didnʻt the Science teacher (who created/caused this virus…say the cells would attack each other BUT at a certain point…it could mutate into another virus strain? He wanted his son (who was always the target of bullies to be strong and unafraid…that didnʻt happen. What happened to the detective? Did he make it to the school? What about the baby?
in alot of shows they sometimes kill a main character for a cliff hanger in which case cheongsan is still alive or for a plot twist for the show so it can keep moving or because the actor had to leave and there is no reason for Chan-Young (cheongsan) to leave so its almost a guarantee that he will be in s2

SPOILERS!! My theory is the cheong san is a hambie because na-yeon, and a couple others got bit in the NECK because when hambies are hungry they eat humans in the NECK thats why na-yeon died, BUT nam ra was bitten in the arm, so was the other girl, and so was cheong san! The group was close in the forest to the building cheong san was in and if you saw interviews they said zombies can't die. So therefore I thin cheongsam is still alive because when nam ra said I know other people like me (hambies) are out there and when she jumped off the building on-jo was surprised and what I think was cheong san was still alive and thats who on-jo saw. Notice how gwi nam got thrown off a roof like 3 times and didn't die, so because gwi nam and cheong san both fell in that pit doesnt mean their dead, they weren't moving because when gwi nam got thrown off the roofs he got hurt so I guess went to sleep (concussion) and woke up. So First stage: denial. Cheong san cannot be dead bc I cried for 3 hours straight when he died💀
i honestly don’t know what to think. i really want him to be alive but him and gwinam went into the fire both flying head first and gwinam is also a halfbie so if cheong-san is alive as a halfbie that means that gwinam would also have to be alive. and i know people have theory’s because of on-jos name tag not being burned but that could have just been shown to bring more emotion to the scene. again i have no idea if he’s alive or dead.

Fire would go behind our back sill yes, but it wouldnt burn the back because the direction of him falling was parallel to the fire of explosion. And he wouldn't get direct contact in the vulnerable front cause of it hiding behind another body which would absorb the fire around him for sometime. The time he would catch fire, he would've already fall to the pile of dead zombies he collected before in the episode, and also showing him using gwinam as a shield has no importance if he died later. They could have just shown both of them dying.

I think it's kind of like that reason why the special-ops soldier turned in a zombie. Remember that soldier that called his mother before going on his mission? He went on the mission like any courageous and dutiful soldier would, however, you could see during the phone call that he was downright terrified of the mission he was about to embark on. Same goes for On-Jo's father. He fulfilled his mission to save his daughter and her friends, but he was fearful for his own life as well. He just put his daughter's safety first. What you must realize is that being courageous does not mean lacking fear. It means doing what could possibly be dangerous despite of being afraid. The other characters that did become half-zombies were driven by a desperate drive or motive that eclipsed all other rational reasons or emotions. They weren't courageous. They just lacked fear. You could argue that Cheongsan was as courageous as On-Jo's father, and in a way, you would be right. However, here's the possible difference. Both individuals did sacrifice themselves for the group, but in the end, Cheongsan accepted his fate. He just didn't care whether he did become a zombie or not. As long as his friends got to safety, he was satisfied. The father, while an honorable man, still valued his own life. Why do I say that? No decent father would ever want to leave his child to fend for herself. He would always want to live to see her again, if only for a few more moments. I hope that clears some things up a bit.
yea its really vague. But i suddenly remembered the snail comparison. The virus takes over the snail cause it has a bigger urge to survive. The snail wants to survive too but the virusses will is just stronger. So i think the halmbies are all people who have a stronger will to survive then the virus in some way. So their body can put up a fight against the virus (what the scientists explained) what makes them half zombie and half human cause the fight is equall. There is no winner in the body
Fearless theory can't be true because Soju, Woojin, Joonyeong and Junseong were not afraid, they sacrificed themselves and yet they became zombies. I honestly think that it's more of a motivated enough or not matter. Namra was motivated not to bite Suhyeok, Eunji wanted to brake phones so badly, Gwinam's motivation was killing cheongsan and I'm not sure if doc was a hombie

I don’t think Cheong-san is dead. He fought so hard that it was almost like he turned also to a hambie/halfbie. They never showed him turn but his nose did bleed, that’s about it. He seemed really strong in comparison to Gwi-Nam. We all know people turned within a few minutes but he went on for soooo long. I figured determination kept people as hambies, we see all of them had some sort of fight in them when “dying”. Gwi-Nam was killing Cheong-san, Eun-ji was breaking the phones to keep the video from uploading, Byeong-chan was creating a cure, and Nam-ra was helping Su-hyeok. I think Cheong-san is hambie too because he had so much determination to keep On-jo and the rest alive. That’s why I don’t think it’s about fearlessness because Gwi-nam was fearful as hell when he died. I don’t know, it’s hard to say why or how someone would turn hambie until they confirm it.

First of all onjo wasn't bit she just got scratch from Heyeon so she showed no symptoms and coming to her dad when onjo's dad was bit by many zombies at fence he said to his daughter " To go home " in a very relief manner as he just wanted to save his daughter even though he dies, and his wish/desire was accomplished when he saved his daughter as well as the other kids. I agree with the theory on I-sak and Gyeon-su...I really think the two could have been "hambies" had the group not instill fear into them (mostly no thanks to the good for nothing Na-yeon --- don't come after me whomever likes her). One thing I don't agree with is that I think the Coach/teacher could have been a "hambie" if they didn't instill fear and flipped on him either since he literally had such a big will to live that he didn't even turn when he first got bit to when he made it to the classroom and told the kids to barricade the room. He literally only turned when they all started to flip over his bite that he finally gave into fear. So far, the emotional motivation in the hambies I thought that could have triggered the mutation was: In Gwinam's case: malice, desperation/extreme determination (ability to do literally _anything_ to survive prior to his turning, even killing the principal), grudge, hatred, and fury right as he died. Eun-ji (the bullied girl): desperation/extreme determination (to stop the upload of The Video), _extreme depression,_ hatred, fury. These two made sense because the professor's inspiration for his virus was a the weaker prey turning crazy to survive against the bigger predator. The strongest trigger was the desperation to complete a goal. Gwinam fixed his eyes on Cheongsan vowing to kill him, having Cheongan's image and his grudge as the last thing he'd seen and thought right before his death. Eun-ji was so desperate, she was still crawlimg for the confiscated phones even while being bitten and munched on by zombies. She didn't die in the process though so it can mean she was the few zombies who got infected without their body actually dying. Her desperation - her brain being stuck on doing one thing - managed to keep the virus under control (until she just functioned in autopilot with no real attachment to anyone or anything except her own survival). Nam-ra's case was the real enigma. The ome mystery that stirred up the whole equation. She didn't have malice. She didn't have this sense desperation as strong as Gwinam and Eunji - she wanted to save Suhyeok but it's not like it's a "life goal" of exacting revenge or of protecting one's dignity after having undergone the sorrow, frustration, and pain, complete humiliation and bullying. If anything, prior to the apocalypse, Nam-ra seemed like the numbed type of teen. Her sole focus was to study but she rarely felt extreme emotions. The only time she acted impulsively was when she saved Suhyeok. I guess that could have been enough of a trigger but honestly, I think the main key to her hambie status was her high intelligence. Her very smart, logical mind, managed to keep her behavior and urges under control until she couldn't anymore. Her lack of malice and her affection towards her friends was what made her different from Gwinam and Eunji, and what helped her keep herself under control in the end. Cheonsan? He had both the motivation, goal, feelings and affection to turn into a hambie, but what makes his physical body different from Gwinam's then? If he's alive, then Gwinam's alive. And that's honestly too much of a pain in the ass to deal with. Gwinam could have shielded Cheonsan from burning, but based on the aftermath of the explosion scene, it showed that it was able to burn even high piles of bodies. Cheongsan will have to have protected himself with a mountain of bodies in the short amount of time between the explosion and falling into the pit to survive, which was highly unlikely. The scene showed the two boys get engulfed in flames. The unscathed name tag really gives us hope but again, that would imply Gwinam's death is uncertain too. Just... The idea of an immortal _malicious_ hambie is just not fun.
I think Nam ra was angry with her parents and life in general, she was always complaining about what her mom made her do, she didnt even cry for her parents or anything like that.

So Here is my theory. So I think cheong san is a hambie because he got bit by gwi nam (A Hambie). When the building was exploding cheong San used gwi nam as a shield. While I was watching I seen gwi nam and I could tell it was him by the shoes. The person next to gwi nams body was wearing the same outfit as cheong San but they covered the face in ashes. Cheong san was carrying on-jo's name tag but when he fell he probably dropped it and didn't realize, got up, and left. That's my theory. Maybe I'll rewatch and try to find more hints. Aside from logical proffs of Cheong san being alive, just once think from production and just common bussiness pov.Tbh, there is no point of s2 if they are not going to bring Cheong san back because just imagine the the loss of viewers they would have to endure after intentionally or unintentionally creating this theory of him being alive. Remember what happened with sweet home s2, it did not have the same magic as s1 and PPL did not like it as much and to dodge this bullet, directors have to bring back cheong san back. I feel like if being oppressed is the reason they became hambie, there will be a lot more hambies in the entire school. South Korea has really high (if not the highest) rate of s*icide and really bad cases of bullying, thus why you'd see many Korean movies and films made about it. It's a serious issue in their country/culture. P/s: not totally dropping the possibility tho since it is fictional. But it'd be a major plot hole if "being oppressed" is the cause of hambies. i could be reaching a bit with this one, but i remember the scientist, saying something about how rage & fear plays an impact on how the virus attacks the body. the more afraid you are, or the amount of anger you possess before the transition, the quicker the virus takes over. for example, with eun-ji: she was determined to fight the zombies bc her anger and fear towards her photos being leaked was greater than the fear of her turning. with nam-ra: she wasn’t afraid and even offered to jump out the window, and whatever doubt or fear she had was alleviated by suhyeok when he called her by her name. calling her by her name made her feel seen, feel human! and with gwi-nam… i honestly don’t know 😂😂 i thought he was a goner for sure. maybe his determinant to get back at cheong san was enough to cause his body to repel most of the virus. but that’s just my thoughts! id love to hear what you all think :)

"STRONG WILL TO LIVE" I'll give you a different angle, if you remember in Episode 1 when the professor explains to the class that a virus is an individual organism that survives at it's on will to live. He emphasized it more by saying "Strong will to live" and then he emphasized it further with the example of the parasite in a snail. The parasite survives not because it is more intelligent than the snail, it survives because in it's strong will to live stronger than the snail. So the host can turn into a new breed if the host has a stronger will to live than the virus. So I think all the hambies has a strong will to live during their infection. Hambie #1 has a strong will to get her scandalous picture to be erased. Hambie#2 has a strong will to get revenge And so forth. And lastly, the clear thing about the Jonas virus that was mentioned is "if this virus learned the mind of its host, then the host will turn into a new breed". I think that was mentioned in the episode right after gwi-nam turns into a hambie

First of all, I'm really sorry for the bad English.
Well, one of the major reasons is fearlessness, But if you look more into it, there is one more major factor which turns someone into a hambie. it's the DESIRE of that particular person.
In Gwinam's case, he literally wanted to kill cheongsan/gauge his eyes out and it was the desire that's left INCOMPLETE before he got bit. Thus he turned into a hambie.
Namra's desire was to save her friends and suhyeok and to save herself too, as the director said in one of the interviews. It was also INCOMPLETE before she was bitten by Gwinam.
In Onjo's dad's case, he just wanted to save his daughter even though he dies, and his wish/desire was accomplished when he saved his daughter as well as the other kids. The Teacher(Ms. Park) had the similar desire i.e, just to save the kids. Hence instead of turning into a hambie even though they were fearless, they became zombies.
But in the case of Jimin, her desire was to take revenge on zombies, she got scared easily and thus turned into a zombie.
In conclusion, if one is strong enough mentally and physically, and has a strong desire that's incomplete, then probably he/she can turn into a hambie instead of a zombie.
I also think cheongsan can turn into a hambie because he really wanted to protect his friends and wanted to live a happy life with Onjo, which became unfulfilled.

I also think there's no way for them to be alive as the flames ended up enjulfing them as they were landing on the zombies. Plus cheong looked so lifeless covered in ashes. Anyway I don't mean to be so negative because I know people want the character to be alive. Also I read that the directors are looking at the possibility to bring him back in a way that makes sense. When you go to 13:42 You can see Cheong San and Gwi nam but Gwi nam is the only one who is burning and Cheong San body isn’t. One of his shoes and his body wasn’t there that much but the only thing we can see is On Jo name tag.

Cheong San is still alive cuz on the scene where gwin nam and cheong san was falling while the fire was there gwin nam was burned and turned to ashes but cheong san though at last moment we see the fire wasn't spreading on cheong san's top half of his body and we didn't see him like turn to ashes instead we just saw him get consumed in the fire also cheong san is a hambie cuz the scientist had blood on his nose but he was a hambie so meaning cheong san is a hambie and lastly when the scientist talk about the virus evolving or something like that they turn into a hambie like namra and gwin nam but hambies can be killed by fire and we saw at the last moment when cheong san was about to hit the ground we didn't see him turn to ashes so what if this virus has a evolve were the host has resistance to fire. we have to be honest: Cheong-san was burned as well, because the flames engulfed both of them, we didn't see him burn to ashes because in the final frame fire cover them both, but it makes no sense he was still intact while only Gwi-nam burned to ashes. If they're really immortals or superhumans maybe they also can recover from burns. After all normal zombies die with wounds on neck, smashed heads and if they fall from an high floor, but the variants seems they can't die even with these, so perhaps even the fire has no effect on them.
Honestly i got e felling Gwi-nam is also alive. When the missile was launched he was still for the loud noises, Cheong.san could have leave him be and jump down, instead he choosed to bring him with him, and I don't think for make a shield, but to save him.

I have another theory of hambie
What makes someone become a hambie instead of zombie is their willingness to live is bigger than the virus'. As told by Byeongchan himself in class that parasite could takeover a host not because its weaker than the virus, but the virus' willingness to live is bigger than the host.
At the moment Gwinam got bitten, he didnt mind anything but really wants to live to kill Cheongsan.
For Eunji she also really wants to live cuz destroying the phones was the only thing she had in her mind.
Byeongchan, the only thing he wants at the time is staying alive as long as possible to hold the zombies and buy the detective some time to run.

Here's what I thought watching the series: I think the virus choosing a hambie host is a SUPER rare phenomenon, and also VERY coincidental. Just like a car accident, a rare natural disaster, a rare disease, maybe there are humans with blood immune to the virus. I don't remember byeongchan becoming a hambie though, it was never confirmed. The only true hambies (with immunity) were Gwi nam and the bullied girl who didn't want pictures of her online. (They both had serious short-term, vigorous resolutions before they died: gwi nam wanted to gouge out cheongsans eye, eunji wanted the videos deleted. Namra and cheongsan both had long term determinations (to live with their friends safely), but the real reason nam ra became a hambie because gwi nam bit her, transferring his immune blood into namras blood. So since gwi nam also bit cheongsan and Cheong was conscious for a very long time, I believe he became a secondary hambie like nam ra who recieved the immune blood from gwinam. (Also zombies take 5 minutes to turn and Cheong didn't turn until the blast, which happened long after the group were far into the forest). So the fearlessness theory might be coincidental, specially since a lot of human turned zombies were also fearless before they turned (onjos dad, joon young, etc)
Edit: I just remembered minjae (the male arrow dude) and na Yeon were also bit by gwi nam, but they didn't become hambies. Probably because gwi nam bit these two in the neck (to eat them) but he only bit namra and cheongsan in the arm.
Just finished. Watched it cause of the Twice reference. Here is my theory. Cheongsan for sure is a hambie. No doubt. He is very important. As you said for a surprise for everyone… maybe as each bitten person “evolves” or mutated just like a normal virus. When Jimin got bit, she got bubbles. A new mutation of the virus. Now, why can’t we apply to hambies as well? Cheongsan, being bitten and the. Turning into a hambie, what kind of new evolved hambie powers or attributes can we think of? Maybe Cheongsan’s blood can is a new anti virus cell that eventually made him control “hunger”. As in normal biology, that’s why vaccines are made. A tiny dose of the disease so the body can fight it and control and have a way of fighting it. Hambies are half humans and zombie. Why can’t the human half still have human functions and create a cell that keeps the hunger zombie cells off. As hambies thrive, they begin to have this. Cheongsan has this too, that’s why Nam-ra was so clean and civilized.
Maybe, Cheongsan is special and his blood can make hambies and cleanse them from hunger? This is a wide theory of Cheongsan. It’s weird. Another is temperature. Cold. It was snowing during the last ep. And the average temp for zombies and hambies are cold. So maybe when the weather is the same as their’s they have no hunger and have an ease when it’s cold. That’s what I’m thinking. Can’t wait to see season 2.

An outlier to this is Oh joon-yeong, He sacrificed himself after getting bit. He did cry, but that doesn't make him less fearless. There must be another factor along with fearlessness that turns people into hambies. I think what lee byeong chan said that, if a virus mutates and learns of human consience they will be unstoppable, is the reason gwa nim and eu jin are still alive. Gwa-nim bit nam ra which must have transfered the mutated virus to nam ra thus turning her into a hambie. This could also be the reason cheong san could be a hambie.

What about on-jo’s dad? I thought he was only scared of on-jo dying. he hadn’t showed any fear of dying, only the thought of his daughter dying scared him. Yet, he still turned into a zombie as you can see in one of the shots when the zombies at the school were following the drones. Does it count?
The hambie doesn’t hold up when you consider the Gym scene where they made a barricade and On-Jo’s father.
Here is my theory ( I’m not smart lol ). But it does have something to do with fear. When the mice are scared they produce different testosterones compared to the ones that are not. That being said it doesn’t say that it doesn’t apply to humans because we also produce chemicals in our body when our brain reacts to something. I think that if you are fearless your body produces a chemical kinda like adrenaline in a way(not actually sure just seems like something comparable). There for making the virus compatible to adapt to the hosts body/ consciousness. The regular zombies that turned may have not had the same reactions/ testosterone boost to accept the virus there for killing the host and the virus taking over instead as the show said. I think that the factor is that a humans brain must produce a similar testosterone boost (like the mice) before getting bitten to adapt and survive the virus ex: being fearless, like an adrenaline boost. If the hosts brain does not produce a strong, or specific testosterone when bitten then the host will be killed and the virus will take over. As the virus is based of a testosterone sometimes the human body is unable to accept such a vast amount there for if the host is also not compatible to accept such they will also die and the virus will take over, even if they produce the same chemicals and requirements.

Fear=Weak Host
I said the same thing about COVID-19. Not saying it is this way for all people. But... Everyone around me was so afraid of getting it and talked/acted scared all the time. I, while recognizing it was a real problem and we need to be safe, had no fear at all. ALL of those people I knew got Covid. I had even interacted with so many people with Covid, but never got it.
All of the hambies wanted to do something as they were bit, for example, gwi-nam wanted to kill cheong-san. Or the girl who was bullied wanted to destroy the phones

I don't know if anyone noticed (I noticed while watching this) but at 5:00-5:05 when the explosion happened. You can see that Cheong-san used Gwi-nam as a shield, and you can see Gwi-nam's body like burn but, Cheong-san's body didn't look like it was effected by the explosion. But who knows, I don't really know what I'm talking about.

The helicopters announced for the survivors to either go underground or leave the city before the bomb blast. Cheongsan fell inside the lift hole which is quite below the surface. Also we can see the name tag of Onjo , it wasn't destructed, so there's is a chance that bomb didn't had effect on him too. The director has given so many hints that Cheongsan is alive.

Also think about this: When Nam-Ra held On-Jo's hand and smiled it almost felt like she wanted to tell On-Jo that Cheong-San is among the group of "hambies" but then realized/remembered that Cheong-San told her he'd want to surprise her.
Plus when Cheong-San fell with Gwi-Nam he used his body as a shield to protect him from the flames and the scene where it's showing the bodies down the elevator shaft it's like the director wanted us to believe Cheong-San was among those dead bodies by placing a burnt hand next to On-Jo's nametag but I think that was Gwi-Nam's hand as Cheong-San was alive underneath his body.

Here is my personal theory about Cheong San - he isnt a regular hambie because if he is going to be in Season 2 and survived the blast/fire from the bombing in the first season, then he must have a new ability like super regenerative properties, extreme durability, or becoming fireproof aside from the usual super strength like you discussed.

This is the plot hole that annoyed me with that theory… another think I think all the hambie’s have in common is they’ve all seem to have given up on humanity.. they all in some way struggle with what society is and what they stand for..

But I'll give you a different angle, if you remember in Episode 1 when the professor explains to the class that a virus is an individual organism so survives at it's on will to live? He emphasized it more by saying "Strong will to live" and then he emphasized it further with the example of the parasite in a snail.
The parasite survives not because it is more intelligent than the snail, it survives because in it's strong will to live stronger than the snail.
So I think all the hambies has a strong will to live during their infection.
Hambie #1 has a strong will to get her scandalous picture to be erased.
Hambie#2 has a strong will to get revenge
And so forth.
And lastly, the clear thing about the Jonas virus that was mentioned is "if this virus learned the mind of its host, then the host will turn to a new breed". I think that was mentioned in the episode right after gwi-nam turns into a hambie

This is my personal immunity theory (although it’s probably a pretty common one)
I don’t think immunity is from fearlessness. Gwinam was scared when he was bitten. I think it has to do with a strong, centered, emotional goal/motivation as well as a resolve that lasts even after being bitten. Their motivation also needs to last throughout the entire turning process.
E.g Gwinam - To kill Cheongsan/get revenge
Eunji - Delete the photos of her
Namra - Is in love and has something to fight for in the first time in her life. She also resolved to not hurt her friends. She came close to becoming a full zombie but with her newfound affection, determined restraint and smarts, she made it through. She also never accepted her fate because she didn’t think that Gwinam was a zombie to begin with so her motivation to survive would’ve stayed consistent before and after the bite. She didn’t feel fear or accept her fate as a zombie because she didn’t even think that Gwinam posed that kind of threat.
This also explains why Soju (Namra’s dad), Mrs. Park or Joonyeong didn’t become hambies. Although the had a strong resolve and emotional motivation, once they were bitten, they accepted their fates. It didn’t have to do with fear, rather it was that their motivation to stay human wasn’t strong enough. They didn’t last the turning period.
Fear definitely has a component since many abandon hope, succumb to their fates or forget what they’re fighting for. The second they hesitate or feel fear, their emotional drive is compromised and their chances of survival diminish.

My theory is the cheong san is a hambie because na-yeon, and a couple others got bit in the NECK because when hambies are hungry they eat humans in the NECK thats why na-yeon died, BUT nam ra was bitten in the arm, so was the other girl, and so was cheong san! The group was close in the forest to the building cheong san was in and if you saw interviews they said zombies can't die. So therefore I thin cheongsam is still alive because when nam ra said I know other people like me (hambies) are out there and when she jumped off the building on-jo was surprised and what I think was cheong san was still alive and thats who on-jo saw. Notice how gwi nam got thrown off a roof like 3 times and didn't die, so because gwi nam and cheong san both fell in that pit doesnt mean their dead, they weren't moving because when gwi nam got thrown off the roofs he got hurt so I guess went to sleep (concussion) and woke up. So First stage: denial. Cheong san cannot be dead bc I cried for 3 hours straight when he died💀

Fire would go behind our back sill yes, but it wouldnt burn the back because the direction of him falling was parallel to the fire of explosion. And he wouldn't get direct contact in the vulnerable front cause of it hiding behind another body which would absorb the fire around him for sometime. The time he would catch fire, he would've already fall to the pile of dead zombies he collected before in the episode, and also showing him using gwinam as a shield has no importance if he died later. They could have just shown both of them dying.

Yeah but his only intention was to save his daughter and get her out of the school. That's the reason why he was so desperate to live. But, now that she has gotten to safety, he gave up his will to live especially after him being aware of the fact he got bit. So, he sacrificed his life and locked himself inside the tennis court.
I think it's kind of like that reason why the special-ops soldier turned in a zombie. Remember that soldier that called his mother before going on his mission? He went on the mission like any courageous and dutiful soldier would, however, you could see during the phone call that he was downright terrified of the mission he was about to embark on. Same goes for On-Jo's father. He fulfilled his mission to save his daughter and her friends, but he was fearful for his own life as well. He just put his daughter's safety first. What you must realize is that being courageous does not mean lacking fear. It means doing what could possibly be dangerous despite of being afraid. The other characters that did become half-zombies were driven by a desperate drive or motive that eclipsed all other rational reasons or emotions. They weren't courageous. They just lacked fear. You could argue that Cheongsan was as courageous as On-Jo's father, and in a way, you would be right. However, here's the possible difference. Both individuals did sacrifice themselves for the group, but in the end, Cheongsan accepted his fate. He just didn't care whether he did become a zombie or not. As long as his friends got to safety, he was satisfied. The father, while an honorable man, still valued his own life. Why do I say that? No decent father would ever want to leave his child to fend for herself. He would always want to live to see her again, if only for a few more moments.

yea its really vague. But i suddenly remembered the snail comparison. The virus takes over the snail cause it has a bigger urge to survive. The snail wants to survive too but the virusses will is just stronger.
So i think the halmbies are all people who have a stronger will to survive then the virus in some way. So their body can put up a fight against the virus (what the scientists explained) what makes them half zombie and half human cause the fight is equall. There is no winner in the body

I don’t think Cheong-san is dead. He fought so hard that it was almost like he turned also to a hambie/halfbie. They never showed him turn but his nose did bleed, that’s about it. He seemed really strong in comparison to Gwi-Nam. We all know people turned within a few minutes but he went on for soooo long.
I figured determination kept people as hambies, we see all of them had some sort of fight in them when “dying”. Gwi-Nam was killing Cheong-san, Eun-ji was breaking the phones to keep the video from uploading, Byeong-chan was creating a cure, and Nam-ra was helping Su-hyeok. I think Cheong-san is hambie too because he had so much determination to keep On-jo and the rest alive.
That’s why I don’t think it’s about fearlessness because Gwi-nam was fearful as hell when he died.
I don’t know, it’s hard to say why or how someone would turn hambie until they confirm it.

Onjos dad wasn't afraid but he wasn't a hambie. So its likely just immunity.Also unrelated Onjo is immune if you check the first episode when Heyeon Ju bit her but she showed no symptoms.
First of all onjo wasn't bit she just got scratch from Heyeon so she showed no symptoms and coming to her dad when onjo's dad was bit by many zombies at fence he said to his daughter " To go home " in a very relief manner as he just wanted to save his daughter even though he dies, and his wish/desire was accomplished when he saved his daughter as well as the other kids. Others who were turned into hambie were still having some desire/goal to achieve or wasn't scare to die which makes them hambie .

I agree with the theory on I-sak and Gyeon-su...I really think the two could have been "hambies" had the group not instill fear into them (mostly no thanks to the good for nothing Na-yeon --- don't come after me whomever likes her). One thing I don't agree with is that I think the Coach/teacher could have been a "hambie" if they didn't instill fear and flipped on him either since he literally had such a big will to live that he didn't even turn when he first got bit to when he made it to the classroom and told the kids to barricade the room. He literally only turned when they all started to flip over his bite that he finally gave into fear. That's my 2 cents on the teacher...not like I really cared for him since he was on screen for like 5 minutes.

So I think you would have to get bitten by a lot of zombies at once. You maybe asking how did joo-yeong or some other not turn to hambies and became normal zombies it because they were bitten by one zombie THEN got bit by a lot other. Nam-ra became a hambie bc she got bitten by a hambie. You maybe also asking how did nayeon and others who got bitten by gwinam not turn into hambies? this is bc they were EATEN not bitten, EATEN.

So far, the emotional motivation in the hambies I thought that could have triggered the mutation was:
In Gwinam's case: malice, desperation/extreme determination (ability to do literally _anything_ to survive prior to his turning, even killing the principal), grudge, hatred, and fury right as he died.
Eun-ji (the bullied girl): desperation/extreme determination (to stop the upload of The Video), _extreme depression,_ hatred, fury.
These two made sense because the professor's inspiration for his virus was a the weaker prey turning crazy to survive against the bigger predator. The strongest trigger was the desperation to complete a goal. Gwinam fixed his eyes on Cheongsan vowing to kill him, having Cheongan's image and his grudge as the last thing he'd seen and thought right before his death.
Eun-ji was so desperate, she was still crawlimg for the confiscated phones even while being bitten and munched on by zombies. She didn't die in the process though so it can mean she was the few zombies who got infected without their body actually dying. Her desperation - her brain being stuck on doing one thing - managed to keep the virus under control (until she just functioned in autopilot with no real attachment to anyone or anything except her own survival).
Nam-ra's case was the real enigma. The ome mystery that stirred up the whole equation. She didn't have malice. She didn't have this sense desperation as strong as Gwinam and Eunji - she wanted to save Suhyeok but it's not like it's a "life goal" of exacting revenge or of protecting one's dignity after having undergone the sorrow, frustration, and pain, complete humiliation and bullying. If anything, prior to the apocalypse, Nam-ra seemed like the numbed type of teen. Her sole focus was to study but she rarely felt extreme emotions. The only time she acted impulsively was when she saved Suhyeok. I guess that could have been enough of a trigger but honestly, I think the main key to her hambie status was her high intelligence.
Her very smart, logical mind, managed to keep her behavior and urges under control until she couldn't anymore. Her lack of malice and her affection towards her friends was what made her different from Gwinam and Eunji, and what helped her keep herself under control in the end.
Cheonsan? He had both the motivation, goal, feelings and affection to turn into a hambie, but what makes his physical body different from Gwinam's then? If he's alive, then Gwinam's alive. And that's honestly too much of a pain in the ass to deal with. Gwinam could have shielded Cheonsan from burning, but based on the aftermath of the explosion scene, it showed that it was able to burn even high piles of bodies. Cheongsan will have to have protected himself with a mountain of bodies in the short amount of time between the explosion and falling into the pit to survive, which was highly unlikely. The scene showed the two boys get engulfed in flames. The unscathed name tag really gives us hope but again, that would imply Gwinam's death is uncertain too. Just... The idea of an immortal _malicious_ hambie is just not fun.

I think Nam ra was angry with her parents and life in general, she was always complaining about what her mom made her do, she didnt even cry for her parents or anything like that.

He got bit and knew he was gonna turn so he fearlessly jumped out of their circle and threw the zombies away even though he was getting bit. So Here is my theory. So I think cheong san is a hambie because he got bit by gwi nam (A Hambie). When the building was exploding cheong San used gwi nam as a shield. While I was watching I seen gwi nam and I could tell it was him by the shoes. The person next to gwi nams body was wearing the same outfit as cheong San but they covered the face in ashes. Cheong san was carrying on-jo's name tag but when he fell he probably dropped it and didn't realize, got up, and left. That's my theory. Maybe I'll rewatch and try to find more hints. Aside from logical proffs of Cheong san being alive, just once think from production and just common bussiness pov.Tbh, there is no point of s2 if they are not going to bring Cheong san back because just imagine the the loss of viewers they would have to endure after intentionally or unintentionally creating this theory of him being alive. Remember what happened with sweet home s2, it did not have the same magic as s1 and PPL did not like it as much and to dodge this bullet, directors have to bring back cheong san back. And if Cheong san would be really dead then I guess director should have said so when asked the same question but instead he just diverted it. Now tell me why would he not confirm his death and just pour oil in fire just to piss off his audience. Nahh no director/writer would do that.
They have one more thing in common is that they were oppressed. gwi hum or whatever his name was he was oppressed by the bully ganag head, eunji was oppressed for obvious reasons, she was harassed as well. the scientist was oppressed by the rich parents, principal and the other concerned people, while namra was oppressed by her own mother, she mentioned how her mother made her do so much

I feel like if being oppressed is the reason they became hambie, there will be a lot more hambies in the entire school. South Korea has really high (if not the highest) rate of s*icide and really bad cases of bullying, thus why you'd see many Korean movies and films made about it. It's a serious issue in their country/culture.
P/s: not totally dropping the possibility tho since it is fictional. But it'd be a major plot hole if "being oppressed" is the cause of hambies. Woojin (?) the archery girl's younger brother has mentioned about feeling neglected in the family due to his outstanding sister, but he turned into zombie almost immediately.

Also, in the end when Cheongsan is falling near the fire, you can see that only Gwinam’s body was burned and not Cheongsan’s
But I think the biggest hint was that onjos nametag was still completely undamaged. That's one of the last things we get to see in season 1. If Cheongsan would've died through the fire, onjos nametag would've also been burned but it almost looks untouched

i could be reaching a bit with this one, but i remember the scientist, saying something about how rage & fear plays an impact on how the virus attacks the body. the more afraid you are, or the amount of anger you possess before the transition, the quicker the virus takes over. for example, with eun-ji: she was determined to fight the zombies bc her anger and fear towards her photos being leaked was greater than the fear of her turning. with nam-ra: she wasn’t afraid and even offered to jump out the window, and whatever doubt or fear she had was alleviated by suhyeok when he called her by her name. calling her by her name made her feel seen, feel human! and with gwi-nam… i honestly don’t know 😂😂 i thought he was a goner for sure. maybe his determinant to get back at cheong san was enough to cause his body to repel most of the virus. but that’s just my thoughts! id love to hear what you all think :)

I'll give you a different angle, if you remember in Episode 1 when the professor explains to the class that a virus is an individual organism that survives at it's on will to live.
He emphasized it more by saying "Strong will to live" and then he emphasized it further with the example of the parasite in a snail.
The parasite survives not because it is more intelligent than the snail, it survives because in it's strong will to live stronger than the snail. So the host can turn into a new breed if the host has a stronger will to live than the virus.
So I think all the hambies has a strong will to live during their infection.
Hambie #1 has a strong will to get her scandalous picture to be erased.
Hambie#2 has a strong will to get revenge
And so forth.
And lastly, the clear thing about the Jonas virus that was mentioned is "if this virus learned the mind of its host, then the host will turn into a new breed". I think that was mentioned in the episode right after gwi-nam turns into a hambie

Becoming a half zombie, you have to a desire to live. For example, Nam Ra had a desire to live because of what Syu Hyeok told her to stay alive no matter what, as for the bully he was desiring to seek revenge, while for the other girl was seeking to live for the sake of her photos not to get leaked, and for Cheong san he was seeking for love and to talk to On jo either is its “tomorrow or next week” so im pretty sure Cheong san is still alive
Besides Cheong San being dead or alive, he at least avenged those survivors that Gwi Nam killed like the other students and Byeong Chan's son.
