Hank, this 61 yr old lady is sending a big hug to you for your detailed, thorough video. Because of it, I gathered the courage to attempt to swap out the motor on my Oreck XL. Was nervous, but sooo satisfied when I plugged it back in and flipped the switch. Vvrrrrooom...the beater bar whizzed around. 😁💪🏆🍾
Thanks for you video instruction! Saved me a whole bunch of money on my Oreck XL21! Turns out my motor was still ok but the fan in the blower section was frozen against the housing. Also great tip on reverse threaded nut for blower fan.
This video helped me replace the fan kit. I had trouble removing the fan from the motor. After removing the nut it did not come off. It was stuck on after 20 years of use, but mission complete. TY
Thanks! This is so helpful. I have the XL 2200 rs and trying to fix some things. I'm wondering if you know the part number of tiny front wheels on each side of the brush. I've looked everywhere and I can't find any information.
Hi Hank garage I got a new johnson motor for my oreck and the older model motor looks like a lamb or amtek motor don't know because it is rusty I can't seem to get the nut washer screwed in to the motor shaft keeps falling out maybe I'm tightening in the wrong direction got the motor on eBay for my 98 oreck
I have a oreck xl. Motor was sounding a little funny. Took the motor apart and noticed the fan blades are filed down like they have been rubbing on the intake. Also when I took it apart I didn't have to remove the nut on the fan, it just pulled apart. Should I order a new fan and intake?
I have an older Oreck XL, the wiring for the motor and switch is wired together with wire nuts instead of connectors. And I took the nut off of the fan and still can't get the fan to budge. I also can't get the bottom pipe off of the fan shroud. I guess I need to spray some penetrating oil on it or something. Not sure why the fan won't come off....
I've followed the directions - thank you! But got stuck at the fan nut stage. I removed it as shown but the two housing parts won't come apart. Any suggestions - aside from going to Oreck AND I already bought a replacement Fan Housing for my XL121?

Love restoring these old XL 1 and 2’s. A 7/16 socket also fits the fan nut.
I would have had to put that whole thing in the Dishwasher ! Nice quick how too .
Yup I’ve done that before for sure
Hey performance reviews. I love your videos.
Your video was big help! Thank you.
Dear Hank's Garage, If I just want to replace the fan housing (it's cracked) can I keep all the wires connected on motor? Thank you...
Yes I did mines
My oreck model doesn’t have regular Phillips screws on the bottom. What are these?
Torx screws probably
Bought me some torx bits to see if they are thanks!
Requires a T20 Torx screwdriver, or an extra-long skinny extension for a bit.
@@Horseyhorsehorse yeah I opened it with torx screws thanks lol
Seems like they almost all are Phillips but a few are star bit or TORX.

Simple and straight forward. Nice vid! And nice to see another Vacuum video
which 'XL" there seem to be a dozen versions. Most not listed on the Oreck site.
They are all the same machine just a different color. The XL21 is different from the XL thats the only other model.
@@hanksgarage_ Any idea if the XL21 is similar to this video? I have one and need to replace the fan housing as it is cracking and leaky.

Howdid you get the fan off
A small "pulley puller" should work
Where could I find a wiring diagram for XL3600HH
They are typically in the back of the parts listing PDFs you can find on google.

Which felt washer is supposed to go where?
against motor

Takes a minute sometimes but you’ll have to “rock” it out. Maybe try some wd40 on the shaft
im just getting a new motor
