    I can't believe this video from 9 years ago was exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much for the clear tear-down instructions. As the Executive Director of a small non-profit (a GED school), I wear many hats & I have to pinch every penny. You just saved us probably $200, AND now I can add vacuum repairman to my job description! 😂🙏🏽

    Excellent video! Ex-wife complained her Oreck XL was not working....and then when and bought a new Shark Vacuum. This was about a year ago. At the house today and found the old Oreck XL just sitting in a closet next to a package of Oreck XL bags. Asked her if I could take a look, found the clog and replaced the belt. Works like a charm now. Again....Thanks for the video. Well Done!

    Bro, thank you so much. I just got this job being maintenance at this hotel and I know nothing about fixing anything. So when a housekeeper asked me to fix their vacuum, I accepted and went in and tried myself, but to no avail. And you described everything to me 100% that makes sense and now I have a working vacuum to light up her day with. To think a video you made 7 years ago helped someone like me out haha.
    Oh btw, this works with the Original Oreck Commercial Vacuum.

    I just took my commercial Oreck outside to diagnose it the way you said. It sure was clogged but my bottom screws are Torx-15 which I don't have but I was able to pull the clog out with needle nosed pliers. Thank you very much.

    Thank you so much! My Oreck XL Signature Plus had no suction. I took it apart just like you instructed. Just the bottom part and the tubes. When I found the tubes were clear I found the clog just behind the roller and was able to pull it out with the screwdriver. I didn't even have to take the other part by the motor apart. It works just fine now! Thanks so much! I know you saved me money by not having to take it in for a repair!

    You can also unclog it without taking it apart by sticking a about 2 -3" of a wire hanger in the air intake behind the roller. You will feel the clog if its there..IIf you break it up and turn on the Oreck, you will hear if it comes out. You might have to try a few times but still quicker than taking it apart and putting it back together.

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  8 лет назад +5

      Yeah you can definitely do that . I just I thought I would pull it apart since it is like 15 years old and check for worn parts, and give it a good cleaning out. For the purpose of the video, I thought if a person could pull it apart down to this level, and see all the components, they would see that there is literally nothing they can not fix themselves.

    Mikko: Just to share some info. We have had the Oreck xl for about 15 years and it picks up as good as our electrolux canister vac.They both work really well and the Electrolux is a better vac., but not by much. That little motor works really well. The convenience of the upright has made it our main vacuum. Now for the cons: If you have wool rugs you will burn up belts like crazy, but it will burn up belts not the motor.There is a way to adjust the rollers so it will work better on wool rugs!

  • @carolinebelt7107
    @carolinebelt7107 9 лет назад +4

    thank you so much! my oreck xl kept turning itself off and smelled like it was burning. i didn't know anything about vacuums, and i was worried id have to take it in to a repair shop and pay a bundle. but i came across this video, and it walked me through step-by-step in an easy-to-follow manner. now it works perfectly. again, thank you!

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  9 лет назад +2

      You are smelling the belt that turns the brush. This happens when you vacuum certain kinds of rugs/carpets. It won't burn up the motor, but it will eventually burn the belt to where it breaks and you will have to replace the belt. Some carpets/rugs will be able to be vacuumed one direction, but if you go the other direction it is more difficult to push the vacuum and can cause the burning smell. Long loop like, shag like carpets are the worst. The minute you start smelling it, stop and let it cool. You may need to vacuum that carpet with another vacuum
      Hope this helped.

    If you can't get the bottom tube out of the socket, a heat gun or hair dryer will help. Mine was total frozen in there, and I would have busted the plastic before it slid out. 30 seconds with it aimed at the metal tube near the socket, and I was able to finally work it out.
