  • A silent revolution is taking place at IIT-Madras. It could very well play a significant role in the growth of electric vehicle ecosystem in our country. Car&bike decided to visit the Institute’s Chemical Engineering department, the hotbed of all the action. Here we meet Dr. Aravind Kumar Chandiran who is leading the team that has developed Zinc Air batteries that, for various reasons have the potential to replace the more popular Lithium-Ion batteries currently used in Evs.

Hi, Car & Bike Channel & host Mr. Naqvi, congratulations!, IIT Madras for developing Zinc Air Batteries..Hoping to see them in EVs soon. When it's IITs India is sure to achieve the self reliant in EVs battery, by this we will overcome dependence on China. It would be wonderful if Zinc Air Batteries are swappable, safe and have longer range.
Wishing IIT Madras Good Luck & Keep it Going.
    Jai Hind.

Sir, Don't compare the electrical, mechanical and environmental performances of LIB and Mechanically rechargeable Zinc-Air batteries for EV applications.
One of the main disadvantage for ZAB is replacement of Zinc anode after few cycles with different current densities (mA/cm2) of Cha and DCha.
During cycling zinc anode dissolution taking place, How many cycles with stand the size of Zinc anode ? Zinc is produced lot of hydroxide and also affected breathing and catalytic layers of Air depolarized electrode during cycling.
Please explain to the media about the demerits of Mechanically Rechargeable ZAB for EV application.

Unless it is as safe as Lithium ion battery, it doesn't matter how efficient or how cost effective it is. Please keep that in mind. Good luck.

Supposed claims. Should be believed only when a concrete development or actual use of this technology happens

What I watched of this only told me how they are going to study this. No actual results or demo. Its like if a textbook told u what you were going to learn and not actually teaching you.
