You're a very talented educator! Your tutorials are very easy to follow, and thoroughly explain the information. I loved the piece you created with the library!

So cool and inspiring, I want to record everything in my house right now!

It's crazy. Once you start, it's hard to stop. While I was recording the tea kettle, a helicopter went overhead and my digital tuner said that the sound of the helicopters was actually a tone in the 80 hertz range. I was like…oh, I should definitely make *that* into an instrument.

Thank you. I understand more from your videos about scripting than any other I've seen so far.

It would be cool to see a tutorial explaining how to trigger multiple mic positions (close + hall for example), and creating a UI that lets you turn mic positions on and off. I’m assuming that is done with groups, and turning groups off and on?

Cole Jenkins Thanks! So I cover some of that in this tutorial - ruclips.net/video/1p88KA3Q6mE/видео.html - but it’s a topic I’d very much like to revisit. The way that I tend do it (because I often have so many different groups) is that I route all of the groups for a specific mic to a specific bus and then I have a knob control the bus volume.

OMG please make a video on how to do UI's like that with t\all those features!

David thanks so much for the videos. Do you have a video that explains how you set the release for a cymbal, so that when you take your finger off, the sample plays through? I'm sure that's very basic but I can't seem to figure it out. thanks again!

Hi Dave, really appreciate this video!
I'm scripting Releases for a piano. I used your Release script for individual Note Releases and it's working great, but extra Releases are triggering for Sustained notes (eg. pressing C3 ten times while holding the Sustain Pedal will produce ten Releases layered on top of each other when the Sustain Pedal is lifted).
I'm pretty new to Kontakt scripting, so was hoping you might have a suggestion!
    Thanks,
    David

      Hi!
There's an old script from Nils
      nilsliberg.se/ksp/scripts/scripts.html#release_trigger_bugfix
Just put it in any empty script slot of your instruments and hit Apply. It will just work.

Your videos have helped me a lot!! , I have a question ... I want to sample a piano, with samples of pedal up and pedal down, how can I assign the group of activated pedal samples (or pedal down) so that only execute when you play with the pedal ?. I would like to simulate the programming of the 'true' pedal like the library "The Hammersmith Soniccouture". I hope you can help me.

Gustavo Isaac Muñoz Hernández Good question. This can get complicated, depending on your setup. The important thing to know is that the sustain pedal is mapped to Midi CC 64. The absolute simplest way to do this is to make two groups, one with the pedal up samples, and one with the pedal down. Modulate the volume of the pedal up group so that low values of Midi CC 64 give a full volume. Modulate the other group with the exact reverse setting, so that HIGH values give a full volume.
A lot of people use a script for this, especially if they have pedal up and pedal down noises as well.
I may do a video on this at some point. :)

Great work. I love the character you get from ordinary objects. Sampling is so awesome. We might need to collab on some of your free packs. Converting kontakt instruments into some things for iOS. iOS has some really great sampler apps as well, not at robust as kontakt but definitely useful with small libraries.

      Things like AudioLayer?

    • @TheAudioDabbler
      @TheAudioDabbler 5 лет назад

@@DavidHilowitzMusic Yes, Audiolayer. Nanostudio 2 actually has a great sampler synth as well. Plus you can use Beat Maker 3 as a sampler to create instruments.

Hi, Could you make a video of how to trigger midi with the keys like the bookstore Cuba Discovery Series ? Congratulations on the channel, greetings from Brazil !!!

dude you rule! thanks for sharing this knowledge and definitely keep it up!!!
is there any chance you’re planning to do a tutorial on how to do crossfades of different dynamics’ samples? i mean the dynamic parameter you usually control with modwheel in any orchestral libraries for example
    cheers!

Hi , David ! very nice thank you . Concerning the release trigger samples , is there a way to only have the release trigger only on the last note played ? tried to add legato several ways on the release trigger group but cant make it work :) The purpose is simple , i have a guitar library i made , so really need the release trigger only on last note played during a solo , not after every note played . Best regards ! :)

    Greetings, David!
How to disable release sample to react on sustain pedal? It need to be played at all time without pedal put it in sustain mode to release it after pedal up.
    Thank you!

    Greetings, David!
How to apply your tutorial (scripting part) when I have for example 4 round robins on note and 4 round robins on release?
Because for a piano they are mapped on the same note and when I allow them to play - they play all at the same time on this note.
    Thank you!

Great informative video. One quick question. How do you get your own DS logo in the top left? I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Sure I'm missing something simple! I really enjoy your videos, they are helping with my Kontakt development enormously. Thanks. Steve :-)

If you are familar to the resource container, then add your icon picture to it (e.g. 35x35) and the following line of code into your "on init":
      set_control_par_str($INST_ICON_ID,$CONTROL_PAR_PICTURE,"file-name-in-your-resource-folder")
It's the same like setting a wallpaper, but change $INST_WALLPAPER_ID to $INST_ICON_ID
You can also google it ;) I'm sure there are some explanations :)
      Cheers m8! :)

Magnus Reichel Brilliant, I'll add that to my code. It just adds that extra finish to the design I think. Thanks very much for your help. Steve :-)

    • @DavidHilowitzMusic
      @DavidHilowitzMusic  6 лет назад +2

You need to make a resource container and store your icon on it. Once you've done that, you can use this line in your on init block to set the icon:
      set_control_par_str($INST_ICON_ID,$CONTROL_PAR_PICTURE,"some_icon_file")
(See this video here for how to create a resource container: ruclips.net/video/hVp07BaFUyI/видео.html)

I really appreciate the how to videos. They are helping me a bunch! I downloaded the tea kettle instrument to take a look at scripting release triggers as you show in the video but in the instrument it looks like you resorted back to using the built in release trigger button for groups? Am I correct in this or did I miss something?

    • @DavidHilowitzMusic
      @DavidHilowitzMusic  6 лет назад

You are correct! In my case there was really no reason to keep the script-based release triggers. If you need the code, here it is:
      on note
      disallow_group($ALL_GROUPS)
      allow_group(0)
      end on
      on release
      disallow_group($ALL_GROUPS)
      allow_group(1)
      play_note($EVENT_NOTE,$EVENT_VELOCITY,0,0)
      end on
      Good luck!
