The wikipedia article is neat. The international pronunciation agrees with the heckler, but the US and local versions don't
@@MrJaggy123 I’d go with how it’s actually pronounced in that city by the people living there lol
@@littlewolf7336 yes, that's arguably the most correct but as an American she couldn't even say "well I'm pronouncing it the way Americans tend to". She should have said "oops, did I say I'm from Kentucky? I meant to say, I'm Canadian" 😉

Man, I lost it at, "2 gas stations...! Oooh, who's a big city..!"
the internet has made heckling hecklers so much better than it was ever meant to be
Years ago, during one of my first visits to Louisville, I also mispronounced the name of the city with the typical Louis-ville. Hailing from Michigan I simply had no idea, I thought it was just an accent thing. While having lunch at one of their many malls one day, I had an elderly gentleman take offense to my pronunciation and he decided to sit with me for over 15 minutes until I got it right. They take that seriously and it's something I'll never forget.
I been to KY in the highlands of Louisville and they would also lose their minds if she said it like that. They care very much that you say it right!
I’m from the UK and even *I* know how to pronounce Louisville 😂😂🤦♀️
Vanceburg is only 50 miles away from WV! This guy was freakin on it!
My god, why bother writing material when you are delivered this gold.
hahhaha....Excellent! You improvise very well, quick witted. Great stuff.
Had a good giggle... but couldn't help notice that at 8:33, Steve says Looeeville....
I love this. No one in Kentucky says Louisville like she did. It’s Loo-uh-vul.
Why do I want Steve to dominate me 😂
When you got through school because your dads the mayor and your moms the teacher.
All this does is make me want to say something stupid about where I live. I'm almost dying trying not to laugh while at work and listening to this in the background.
OMG you were having way too much fun, you should have had to pay yourself a cover charge lol (that is NOT a heckle). Love what you do, glad you are going strong during COVID times.
This page says Steve Hofstetter not anyone else so I am not endorsing anyone here but Steve. Based on a comment made saying I posted on their main page I have not. Thanks to STEVE again.
"STUPID is, what stupid DOES"...
Too funny!
Well we all make mistakes
Me: oh boy here we come
The kentucky pronunciation is luhvull
I gotta say she was a pretty good sport about it 😂. One of the funny heckler situation compared to the really obnoxious ones
As someone who went to school in Ohio I can affirm that the school system there is god fucking awful. Great clip as usual Jeff. Thank you for posting. LOL!
Well, I guess now you'll never get to perform in the amazing comedy scene they have going on in the county-town of -Lewis- Vanceburg.
Meanwhile, my hometown and county share the same name.
Tis indeed, very much so, Loooooooooville.
It's bad enough that some Americans don't know much about the world but then we hear these stories about them knowing nothing about their towns, cities, counties etc and it's icing on bad of proverbial crapshow cake. Not knowing is not an issue; not having an open mind and an ounce of humility to learn new things is!
I only know how to pronounce it because of project zomboid 😭 that’s how non natives call it yeaaaaaah
I can attest that people from Maryland, Delaware, Western PA, pronounce Louisville "Lou-ee-ville" for some fucking reason.
Wait, so I’ve been pronouncing Louisville wrong this whole time?
Once upon a time I had the misfortune of living in Versailles, KY. You were correct in guessing how they pronounced the name of the "town" as "Versales" That's how much they hate France. They refuse to say it the froggy way.
In case you care, Versailles is in Woodford County.
Thank you! I'll be here all week. Remember to tip your waitress and try the veal!
Ahh the psycho is back on the same night of viewing!? Original i love it. Gold. A few points you could have said this is out of love im hating you. But it wouldn't have been as authentic. But thats some anger management bs like I've been in 3 times because of judges lmao. Yes im a pos. But again. I wish i had the patience to be an academic like you steve!
Isn't Vanceburg in Ohio?
Gotta loooove red states education!
That mayor of Vanceburg joke turned out so much better than anybody expected, didn't it? 🤣
Wow, that was brutal. And she didn't even sound drunk.
She sounded like a Republican!
No that was straight Ohio stubbornness! This is what happens when you give too much importance to one state when it comes ta voting. Hahaha... funny thing is... I love Ohio.. and Kentucky.. and yes it is phonetically (Luul)ville.
What is sad about this is that Kentucky is at the bottom of the list for education. Lower than West Virginia. It is also one of the most poverty stricken states. I guess, in a round about way, you could call Kentucky a shit hole, third world country.
@@BusterTucker , she sounded almost identical to insane Lauren Boebert.

As a Louisville (Lou-uh-vull) native we can tell who the out-of-towners are by the way they pronounce Louisville. Lou-ee-ville and Louis-ville are dead give-aways. Even without the closing statement, it was clear that Steve spent a significant amount of time here. Thanks for standing up for Louisville, geography and against ignorant hecklers.
I agree!!
Louisvillian here, can confirm. "Lou-ee-ville" usually denotes someone from the east or west coast, and the worst they'll often get is just a correction with a Midwest-nice smile.
Calling it "Lewis-ville" will get you a stink-eye and possibly even a "bless your heart".
I've also heard people from Louisville really shorten it to what sounds like "Low-vul" - either that or I'm not picking up on the intricacies of the accent.
Yo you should take me to a show John!!!!
@@ghmongo You seemed to hit the nail on the head. Im Floridian and thought it was Loo-ee-ville. But certainly wouldn't have argued for it XD

Brilliantly executed sir 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
Hey Steve, also from Kentucky here. You are right...You try to say Louisville as close to one syllable as you can. But there are random people that pronounce it like she did. And many people do associate by county rather than city. That does happen. But the most ironic thing you said was asking about Versailes Indiana, because right outside of Lexington is Versailes Kentucky, pronounced like you said it in the video.
@Sandi D, U hit it on the head with that one!!! I can recall visiting my girlfriend who was an intern at IBM in lexington in the summer of 1976. we had to get to a car parts store on versailles road in lexington. We of course got lost, and stopped at a gas station to ask for for the road which we assumed was pronounced in the was the world does, to be met by stares of absolute bewilderment. only after 5 minutes of confusion did someone suggest that they had a versailles road, pronounced as steve said it in the video clip. to say that that was a source of laughter for years is an understatement.🙂
I learned something. I've heard it pronounced with 3 syllables and thought that was correct.
@@kimberlykristin2507 it's correct if you're referring to the Dallas, TX suburb (lived there for a bit as a kid and took me a bit to adjust to the fact that it's a weird pronunciation)
Not from Kentucky here, but I see what you are saying. I Google mapped her town and the town is so small (1,500 ish), everything goes by county. It would probably be too expensive to have a school for just Vanceburg, so it is the Vanceburg county school.
@@jeffreymerriam7025 Even a lot of metro areas are sometimes done by county for things like schools. I grew up in metro Atlanta, and things were all a mix between city and county. For instance, I was at a city school district, but my county also had one for everything else, with a ton of high schools in it. But you would rarely say you were from a county, you'd list the nearest city.
How in the hell did you go through that without asking "Is your dad's name Vance?" :D
6:00 when Steve asked if she lived in Wilmington now and she responded "Newark", I can't believe he didn't call her out for not stating the county (New Castle). Still hilarious how he handled her
In just glad so many people corrected on how to say Newark Delaware, which is not pronounced the same as Newark New Jersey. It would be hard to say she lived in New castle because that's also a town in New castle county. Lol
@@KeeleTasume lol #themoreyouknow

The Two Comedians you should NEVER heckle
Steve Hofsetter. And Bo Burnham.
lol this was in Delaware. No one cares about pronouncing Newark that way except Delawareans. The whole crowd got in on it.
It really helps the distinction between the Jersey Newark and the Delaware Newark since they really aren't too far apart. That's why a big deal is made of it.
@@Thechairman04 they’re easily 2 hours apart!! You know how the distinction is made for Kansas City? Say the state.
It's good to know the Hoff backs KY virtue. Thank you old friend.
Comedy Gold. This will get saved as a favorite, right next to Comedian Offered Audience Member's Daughter. "How old is your daughter"? "15.945". Edit: which at the end you mention coming Louisville Kentucky etc . coming up events lol
Loved this, but still... Being inappropriate and/or heckling baffles me at shows like this. I mean, it's important in all of the performing arts for audience members to learn some basic etiquette and know certain lines not to cross, but in comedy, the lessons so often have to be explained as a part of the show, something good comedians are so often able to improvise & riff with to maintain some artistic momentum.
So, imagine that in a symphony concert. Some people start singing along because they think their voice will add to the experience for everyone around them, or they interrupt at a cadence to incorrect the 2nd violin section. Sure, there are musicians that can riff with audience members (ie Bobby McFerrin), but it's usually intended and encouraged for that particular artist. Glad to see improv is alive and well, but dang people, learn some boundaries.
Basically, hecklers suck.
If he'd stopped berating her after the first comment, she might have shut up. This guy is a dick.
Yes. Thank you! There is a particular demographic that ignores or simply don't get this. Look at the amount of comments praising her {and generously meeting her misdeed} for interrupting Steve's performance. I understand he's famous for destroying hecklers but that is not an invitation to disrupt his art. Your comment is spot on.

The voice crack when he said "swimming" sent me 😂😂😂💀
her pronounciation was correct. It doesn't matter how the citizens of Louisville pronounce it. It was named after King Louis the 16th who helped America during war times and therefore the name would follow the way you'd pronounce the name of the king
@@BornTwizted87 your stance is so anecdotal. "trust me bro I've been here since the 50's" what does that make you, at least 61 years old? What if I encounter another person from Louisville who's been living there just as long
The funny part is, and I hope you did this on purpose now that you live in Pittsburgh... there is a town called "Versailles, PA", just outside of Pittsburgh, and yes, they pronounce it "Ver-sails". There's also a "North Versailles Township", pronounced... just as you guessed it, "Ver-sails".
