And even if the laser pointer wasn't strong enough to blind someone, did you see what a baseball can do a man's face in the clip right after when the ump got nailed in the jaw? Edit: I realize after a couple rewatches of the replay that the batter, Odor, called for time and somehow got his hands on the bat for a home run. Not the ump’s fault actually. Baseball is a crazy game. And OF COURSE it’s Angel Hernandez.

    • @twelved4983
      @twelved4983 5 месяцев назад

      While I can see the strikeout being called wrong, it seems like the time out was actually batter’s fault. If you look at the very beginning of the clip, you’ll see the batter put up his hand. It was just an extremely inopportune moment, and Hernandez simply called time anyways, but by that point the ball was coming and the batter still took a swing anyways.
      If you ask me, the fault is more on the batter than the ump for that one.

    • @lscales6131
      @lscales6131 5 месяцев назад

      @@twelved4983 while I agree the umpire is the ultimate decision maker on time outs. Just because the batter puts up their hand doesn’t mean they have to call it. It’s in their judgment if it warrants it or not. It’s still on him for this he sucks.

    the hit that went off his glove and over the wall should be a ground rule double instead of a homerun

  • @Robisme
    @Robisme Год назад

    The ground rule double never made sense to me. If the ball makes contact with a defender and goes out it should be a home run. How different is it from out fielders messing up a catch and goes out? Just like Adell in the second clip?

    • @russellcurtis2501
      @russellcurtis2501 Год назад

      Take the fielder out of the equation and you've answered your own question. It is a home run if the ball leaves the field on a fly. It is a double if it strikes the ground.
      Also the play in question is up to the umpire's discretion. If they believe the fielder intentionally knocks the ball out of play then I think it is next base plus one.

  • @FrekyD

    I still don't understand that first clip to this day. I get by the rulebook that's the rule. But what is the difference between what happened there and the right fielder chucking the ball into the stands? Why should intent matter there? Feel like all runners should get an extra base as like what would happen if an errant throw goes out of play

    • @pyropilot1421
      @pyropilot1421 Год назад +1

      As I understand the rulebook, if the right fielder intentionally threw the ball out of play, two bases would be granted from the time of the throw, according to OBR 5.06(b)(4)(G).
      Since this ball just deflected off the fielder it still counts as a batted ball, and is thus a ground rule double under OBR 5.05(a)(8), meaning two bases are granted from the time of the pitch.

    • @FrekyD
      @FrekyD Год назад

      Guess that's what I mean. The ball deflected off the fielder because the ball went off the wall, in play and the fielder got in the way and it went over the fence. There had to be some player intervention to stop the ball from continuing its momentum. So the player, intentional or not, helped the ball go out of play. Why shouldn't that be the same as if an errant throw goes in the dugout, i.e., all runners move up a base from when the ball left play?

    • @FrekyD
      @FrekyD Год назад

      The call was 100% correct in its implementation. the rule just doesn't make sense when it comes to other more similar rules in the rulebook.
