      @span218dood 8 лет назад +4

      Ah, now I understand, you can't read. A. Nowhere did I discredit his lift. B. Smaller range of motion means less distance and less force over that distance, thus more efficient. C. Nowhere did I say anything about geared lifting. Have you never seen someone arching while not using a shirt? I hope so.

    Here's a question: WHY THE HELL IS POWERLIFTING NOT IN THE REAL OLYMPICS???

    • @justrinat2207
      @justrinat2207 5 лет назад +4

      Because it isn't a skill. Outcome of powerlifting is determined by genetics and time.

    • @YH-lj9gy
      @YH-lj9gy 4 года назад +29

      because these paraolympians are actually bench pressing, there is no over exaggerated arch or ultra wide grip or 2 inch rom. Powerlifting is a bastardization of all three lifts, ridiculous wide stances sumo deadlifts, back hinging low bar squatting and super arched 2 inch rom wide gripped bench. olympics says no thanks to that bullshit.

    • @Brey
      @Brey 3 года назад +4

      There are many common reasons why powerlifting is not in the Olympics:
      One is that the sport is not popular enough world-wide, another is that there too many powerlifters caught using PEDs, powerlifting is too long, poor judging on all 3 compound lifts, lack of technicality (commonly on the bench press and deadlift), an equipped division, and the rules of powerlifting vary in different countries as there are a lot of small powerlifting federations

      because bench is an upper body exercise... DUH! and before you say, I do powerlift, and understand its technically a full body exercise, but I find leg drive has very little impact, it still comes down to strength in chest,shoulders,triceps,lats (:

    • @draxxov
      @draxxov 10 лет назад +38

    A RUclips search of liu lei showed a 2010 event where he did 224 compared to this video of 226kg. Why, in the past three years, has this lift never been recorded in powerlifting watch's raw records? So is this 226kg lift in 2012 going to be recorded anywhere? Or Are paralympic lifters categorised differently? Sincere question here

    • @MattFoss14
      @MattFoss14 10 лет назад +2

      As I understand it, one of the rules for the bench in most powerlifting federations is that the lifter's feet must be flat on the floor during the lift. Athletes like Lei Liu wouldn't qualify.

    • @stangbien
      @stangbien 10 лет назад +6

      ***** I am not trying to take anything away from the lift, but because he is a paralympic lifter and don't really have any weight in his lower body is the reason he is a 148 pound beast. Paralympic lifting records should not be mixed with normal records.

    • @stangbien
      @stangbien 10 лет назад +3

      Because they are not competing on equal terms. He probably has an upper body of an abled lifter who is 1-2 weightclasses above him due to the fact that his lower body weighs next to nothing. I know he doesn't have any leg drive and his back is not as arched, I just don't think that really makes up for the difference in the upper body.

    • @Benchkid
      @Benchkid 10 лет назад

      Thanks guys for the discussion. I agree with all 3 of you and it is really arguable on both ways. Here's some more information: check etwade's other video where nader beats rick couch's 132 weight class bench record, for a 432 lb bench, also at the paralympic meet.
      But, Kristoffer Kulecki (raw record in 148lb until Liu Lei beat him in this video) and Rick Couch are still cited as world records in powerlifting watch. Now here's the thing, RUclips User Matt Foss in his response above mine, mentions that this may be because for a regular bench press, you usually want feet on the ground, it's tradition. Strangebien also added an extra point that due to different body composition, that's why the old records still stand. Burt argued his counter points too. But etwade (uploader of video) mentioned Kristoffer, whose record is cited in 148lb of powerlifting watch, was also a paralympic competitor. So here's my next discussion point: Was Kristoffer, despite being disabled, able to put his feet on the ground? If so, then I see consistency here. But if Kristoffer was same as Liu Lei, in terms of lower body being very small and unable to touch the ground, then I see inconsistency on powerlifting watch's part. I may email them or something to ask about this.
      As for what I feel, I think I tend towards strange and Matt's arguments while still respecting and agreeing with Burt's counter points. What I feel is that maybe they can separate regular records and paralympic records into two separate things; I mean, you got to credit these strong guys! But, under powerlifting watch's list of 8 lifters in the hall of fame of triple bodyweight raw bench, add these disabled lifters inside without separating them. But wait, I just found another confusing thing, in the 8 lifters in hall of fame of 3 times bodyweight, there's rick couch whose record was broken by paralympic lifter Nader, yet there's no Kristoffer. So if the reason is because rick is not disabled and Kristoffer is disabled, then why the heck is Kristoffer's record in the raw record list and not Liu's. Lol.

    • @Benchkid
      @Benchkid 10 лет назад

      By the way the Chinese names are pronounced with the surname first, so etwade correctly put him as Lei Liu, just that friends would tend to call him Liu Lei when conversing in Chinese. At least that's what I think as many surnames are Liu over there.

    Our strength potential is literally unmatched. People should stop taking asians for granted. We are not weak. We just choose not to make a grand exhibition of it like most other races because of our Confucius values. Blacks and Asians have the best muscle recovery genetics according to genetic literature and East Asians also top the charts in bone density and free testosterone. A lot of people misinterpret high levels of DHT (or dihydrotestosterone) as an indication of high testosterone levels but that couldn’t be further from the truth. DHT is only responsible for male sex traits like facial hair which admittedly we East Asians are slightly lower in but our free testosterone levels are quite literally unmatched by whites, blacks, middle easterners, you name it.
