Thank you for explaining where the exact measuring points are. So many other videos don't explain it well. I'm like "Do I measure outside of the channel? Inside the channel? Or do I just measure the window frame itself and ignore that channel?" So thank you for explaining it so this new homeowner can do this herself!
Finally, the information I've been looking for. Amazing how many videos there are about making these screens but they don't think to mention how you measure up, which is obviously the first step every time. Thank you from Downunder.
Brad thank for this video. I could not understand exactly what the measuring points are for measuring the width. For me, I ended up not being equipped with the details that would result in a successful job. Besides that, explaining in detail exactly why a certain measurement is carried out in the specially described (and shown) way, adds to our comprehension. Thanks again for the otherwise great video!!
Your video is either incorrect or missing crucial information. I followed your steps. Measuring the width from the "flat part of the frame" (what would be inside the pocket of the non-moving pane) to the inner edge of the screen channel (inner edge being window side, not wall side) and ADDING 1/8" as instructed. This creates a screen that CANNOT be installed, or not in every window. My windows look just like yours in the video, but the pocket on the non-moving frame is deeper (5/8") than the channel along the wall (3/8"). So when I add my 1/8" to that, now I have a screen that is the width of the opening (edge of channel to edge of frame of non-moving pane) + 5/8" to "flat part of frame" + 1/8" (per your instruction) for a total of opening + 6/8". But i only have 3/8" one way and 5/8" the other to stuff it, so it doesn't fit. If the channel along the wall was at least 1/8" deeper than the pocket of the non-moving frame, I believe your method would work. Unfortunately, I didn't watch other videos prior to measuring and ordering my screens, but I have now and I find other videos instructing you to SUBTRACT 1/8" from that width measurement; NOT ADD. I assumed your video to be correct. Afterall, if you actually used your measurements to make your screen and it installed, I should be able to trust your method. If you found them to be wrong, you would have corrected your video. I ordered 3 screens measured using your method from Ace Hardware and I now have $147 of screens that don't fit. Had I engaged my brain while doing the measurements, rather than blindly following your directions, I would have easily seen that this doesn't work. So, it's really my fault for being so gosh darn trusting. Thanks (sarcasm).
Yea people always assume your as smart as them and use work vernacular when I'm trying to simplify my life by watching a hopefully educational video this guy sucks
"and ADDING 1/8" as instructed." - YOU "minus a 1/16 of an inch " -THE VIDEO 1:36 You made the mistake, not them... you were supposed to subtract, not add.
’e-ḇen no, Tazze is talking about the measuring of the width, youre referring to his instruction when he measures the height. Tazze made the mistake of measuring from the inner channel and adding the 1/8th. This guy is not measuring from the inner channel but the outside flat panel of the window opening. Thats why he adds the 1/8 since the screen will fit inside the must be a litter bigger since it will sit 1/8th inside the channel. Tazze made the mistake, not this guy.

There are a lot of different window sections. Not all windows are measured the same

Why do so many Americans pronounce ‘height’ with a ’th’ sound at the end 😂
