  • We are going to look at the Z3 market now; as it is different than the last time we surveyed it two years ago. Are prices better? Is it time to buy?

I got my 2001 3.0 5 speed with 80,00 miles for $8000 in Ohio this past March. I had it appraised for $11500, it had new BFG tires, Power Stop brakes, top and vacuum lines installed. At some point I want to get a suspension upgrade. Planning to keep it till I can't get in it anymore.

I bought my 2.8 Z3 over 22 years ago and to be honest I'm a bit upside down. However when you factor in all the good times I've had in the car with the wife and kids I'm smiles ahead of the current value by a mile...

same. My '95 325i smiles/miles count is up there-- and expect the my Z3 to add many more. It's hard to explain to people the fun of dropping the top for even a short drive to the grocery store. I'm glad to meet another person holding on to a car where many would have traded out long ago for something newer. Lots of good memories with these cars.

@@rickblauw Funny story: Before I bought my Z3 I was actually looking for another Porsche 911, 83 - 84 Coupe or Cab. Went to dinner with my wife and in the parking lot was a Z3. I asked my wife what she thought, she said look and test drive one. I found a nice looking low mile Z3 2.8 with manual trans, took it for a test drive, fell in love with how the car drove and handled so I bought it.
Looking back: Even though my Z3 depreciated and the 911 appreciated over the past 22 years I'll call it a wash in my book. Sounds crazy but the money I saved on maintenance and insurance over what I would have spent on the 911 is a huge savings, something I can live with...

As always, another great video! Thank you. Certainly there are many factors involved in car value. One of the biggest is location of the car, as well as how interested a new buyer may be in finding just the right car. Here in California, prices can be pretty high, since, in general, we get very little rain - wonderful for soft-top cars. But, as always, car condition is a key element --- higher mileage and mechanical condition are prime factors. For my manual 1997 1.9 Z3 roadster, it was garaged and driven very little since original purchase, having 39k miles when I bought it, with price in the San Francisco Bay Area of $8,000 in 2019. When I looked for Z3's, there were very few in California in great condition. Note, my Z3 did not have a hard top. I searched the nation for about a year and found very few hardtops, and those I did find were not in very good condition. But, after considerable time, I finally found a pristine hardtop, including all mounting hardware (as well as roll hoops), 3,000 miles away in New Jersey and had it shipped here, then painted to match my Atlanta Blue Metallic. Time will tell how much I get for it if and when I sell it, which will be years from now. Just can't beat driving it around our many curvy two-line roads in wine country and along the Pacific Coast.

Nice info. I feel very lucky-- I am buying a family friend's 2001 Z3-- 2.5 automatic with ~26K miles for a good price. Basically brand new- lightly used- always garaged. Couldn't pass on it. My '95 325iC is getting a little long in the tooth. I've had it for 27 years now; daily driver and while it still runs and drives well I feel it's time to add another fun car to the stable while these Z3s are still around. I was doing the same pricing research too -- included ebay completed auctions. Can see what people are asking vs what the cars sold for-- or if the auction ended with no buyers. The price spread is surprisingly large--- but as you mention-- some deals are still out there.

@@MomentofZed I am well, thanks Mark. Cheers for having me on the Z of the week couple episodes back. Really appreciate it. Update on my Z. I did polly bushes on the front arms and rear subframe. I can definitely recommend doing it for the rear as it will make the rear more stiff which will prevent the trunk welds going bad.
