Thanks for the update mate. I have enjoyed every session on this build.
Your welcome mate👍
Great work, I admire your dedication. Look forward to future updates 👍
Thanks Tony will stick it out until the end!
Good to see you bud , life always gets in the way of our builds lol , your over the hump and it’s not far now , keep chugging along and that’s one massive retaining wall 👍😁
Thanks mate, I know chug chug chug😂 getting there though, that retaining wall was and still is ridiculous thing to do. However will be worth it
She's coming along nicely!
Top job n the steering column recondition.
Looking forward to seeing the next update.
Thanks mate
Great job mate. That dash and gauges look mint. Looking forward to more progress.
Thanks mate👍
I put a brawler on my 253 couple weeks ago mate the best thing since sliced bread
Mate on my hz on the steering column where you have that nolathane bush from factory was like a thick felt pad that joint the coupling together ,and also that screw you mentioned is an adjustment against the worm drive in steering box but don't over adjust as will bind if this helps , cheers , shaneo, Nelson, NZ, 👍🍺
Yes I think the felt factory one is the way to go, will be ordering one, and I was informed about the worm drive adjustment as well, thanks 👍
Barnsey, there is a about a 7/8 inch nut and a 1/4 jnch Allen bolt / adjuster between the chassis rail that will tighten the rack it needs to be tightened to 15 to 18 INCH / lbs this can be very sensitive to adjust.Easiest remove the steering box from the car, resist the urge to hit the steering box with a hammer they are very easy to damage. The 3/16 Allen plug in the top of the steering box is to adjust the worm follower preload. This top Allen plug can be removed, inside is another Allen screw the steering box has to be in the center position to be visible , if you have the urge to adjust this remove the Allen key before turning the steering box
Ok great thanks for the detail I will have a look at adjusting it. Cheers
That top spring should have tension on it. Either the shift isn't in enough or you broke the 2 pins. I made a tool to use the shaft nut to compress the spring with room for the clip.
The pins definitely weren’t broke. So I reckon the shaft isn’t in far enough, not sure how to sort that however other than getting someone else to do the job
Long drawn out build. Just like mine....... Good to see another vid mate. Am just about to tackle a column,so much appreciated.
Thanks mate, good luck with the column it’s a journey!
Nolathane steering flex plate is not right. The column is mounted in the holes at 90 degrees. So 4 bolts are needed to fit it up right. Quick Google search should give you a pic.
Will get the original belted one and that will sort it hopefully. Thanks
@@BarnesysBuilds no worries just sold my HQ tonner, did a similar build to you sandblasted cab, went through every bolt, nut, and washer!
nothing wrong with a bit of rural engineering barnsey it did the job lol
that steering box is ok they need a small amount of free play to stop it binding
Always give the rural engineering a red hot go! Ok good to hear steering box is normal, cheers!
Another great episode mate
I might be wrong here but my understanding is you need a return on the catch can which is how mine is set up.
You’re running both rocker cover into the unit so I’m not sure where the return pressure goes with that setup. I could be looking at it wrong though
Hey mate, Yes I don’t think the return is a thing from my research, I read they are just pipes to channel any oil residue vapour away from the engine into a canister that you drain out from the base. As they have a filter at the top any air pressure is released out that way. I also saw a lot of people have two catch cans one for each rocker cover. I really would like to see other setups in more detail however. Thanks
Buy the proper rag joint from Rares or Resto country, it’s a quality item and will last for years. There will be 4 posts to make that assembly. I put a new one on a few weeks back.
Ok will look at them, cheers
Oil catch can,can all ways be mounted on the inner guard if a spot needed later.
Yes it maybe where it ends up going, cheers!
Just replace the plastic part with the column shifter with a blank one pretty sure Rare Spares have them now
Yes they do, I have seen them but was trying to reduce costs on restoring the column.
Dipstick doesn't fit as you have a HQ-WB sump not a commodore sump different location.
Should have left the column shift linkage out and replaced the top section with the new section from rare spares as your going floor shifter
Yeah didn’t want to spend the money on the rare blank until I know whether it’s actually a viable column, so I left it for now, most likely replace the whole unit.
@@BarnesysBuilds I bought the blank from rare spares for $50 and removed the column linkage
@@owenbuttfield9876 that’s not that bad really price wise. Cheers
Steering coupling is missing parts needs 4 parts on it
Ok thanks m, will get original one.
Your missing 2 pins on your steering coulpling .The intermediate shaft shouldn't bolt directly to the steering box,the coupling bolt to the box and should have 2 pins that the intermediate shaft floats on,probably best to google an exploded diagram of that area.
That's why people don't like the nolathane coupler, hasn't got the safety pins and integrated cast spline.
Ok, I have the two pins I think, I wasn’t sure where they went so I only did the first two hand tight and then was waiting for feedback on the video. Cheers
Hey mate, I saw your GTS gauge 3d printing vid and you said you were keen for making all sorts of 3d models and what not. Was just wondering if you would make some holden vz commodore binnacle gauge pods to fit a vy commodore dash please :)
Hey mate, happy to look at them if you have a sample I can scan and reverse engineer, it takes a bit of time to get a product modelled up to exacting measurements so if I take a product on it’s got to have a market to justify the work involved. Are these a popular item people are after?
