Construction of Brisbane's New Runway - Airfield Design

From 2014 - 2016, Brisbane Airport Corporation was able to finalise the airfield design and layout of Brisbane’s New Runway. This stage took place whilst the sand was settling on site. This video explains the key elements of design, including pavements and lighting.
Brisbane’s new runway is the completion of long-term planning for Brisbane Airport which commenced in the 1970s. Construction of the new runway began in 2012, with the official opening on Sunday 12 July 2020.
The new runway gives Brisbane the most efficient runway system in Australia. It will serve the needs of South East Queensland for decades to come, maintaining and growing our connections with the world as our city continues to grow, while building the gateway to Queensland & Australia.
