Just purchased my Hermie!😊..I've been watching several videos on how to build and maintain his crabitat, it takes some work for sur, but it is well worth the effort, because I love my crab!❤ thank you for sharing this video, the pools are very cool, I am going to follow your suggestion and update Hermy's pool. Appreciate your video and I know my crab will too!😊👍❤🐚
You’re ideas rock !!! I love them!! Keep the ideas coming!! I just finished doing this for my hermit crabs I followed all your directions and made my hermit pools!! ❤️🥰
Can you please link to where you bought all of these items? I can't find the T tube attachment, the bubblers, and I'm not sure the aquarium pump I did find is the small one that you have shown in the video. Thank you so much for your videos!
Thank you for the great video! I just added two larger pools today and I was wondering what that plastic mesh was called so I could buy some. Now I know! Can't wait to add the bubbler!
How deep should the hermit crab pool should be? Have a single 2.5 gallons aquarium that I could add saltwater from my local tropical fish shop. Also I'll be purchasing a second 2.5 gallon for freshwater and purchase large terrarium to add both 2.5 Aquarium inside terrarium with plenty of room for the substrate.
How do you clean them ?? I doubled the layer but the bubbler tubing goes through the mesh in the top one making it difficult to just take it out and dump them out ???
How often do you change their water? I’ve had mine for 2 years and I’m looking to add bubblers and rocks to their pools, put it seems like it might be a lot of work when it’s time to change their water.
HI! I got a pump and tubing, a splitter, and two pennplax small world filters that bubble and filter the two tanks- 1 gallon fresh, and 1 gallon salt. i put the splitter T-valve in how you showed... and then ran the lines into each tank, but I can't get BOTH pools to bubble. If I pinch one tube and then release it once the second bubbler starts, the other will bubble for a minute or so and then fizzles out and stops. do you know what might be causing the problem? Thanks so much for all your videos. we recently started caring for hermit crabs and had no idea without your help what we were doing.
@@hermitshoundsandhorses9971 I ended up getting two of the little dial control valves to regulate the air in a particular too and I got one for each side. then I just installed it a little bit above the filter so that it would be above the water in the tank but I could disconnect it when I have to clean the tank and turn it all the way off. then what I did was just to dial each one back and forth until there was equal flow in the two tanks. I got the little flow control valves for like a dollar fifty at Petco. It's been working really well and when I put a topper on it, the tube got a little pinch going into the tank and so I just had to readjust them. I love your videos, I've learned so much from you and I feel like I'm really prepared to send you a picture of the crabitat once we have our crabbies in there!!
hello from indonesia, i have a few hermit crabs and have to leave them 3 days every week, can you give me some tips, i'm a little worried. sorry my English bad. I love you vid 💞💞
Well, making these pools should keep the humidity in the right range when you are away. I would also recommend feeding them dry foods that don't mold easily, such as oats, raisins, nuts, seeds.
Hi I have 5 hermets. Don't quite know how to care for them..but love them and try hard..they seem happy on my limited hermit crab budget..your English is going well..take care and good luck.. Julie Sydney Australia x
I loved this video. I followed your directions step by step and it was super easy to follow your directions. How long did it take for your crabs to go in. I haven’t seen my guys go in yet.
I feel like mine go through phases. They go for weeks with little to no pool activity and then all of the sudden, they'll ALL be in the pool at the same time!
Me and my cousin went to a beach and seen 4 hermit crabs that looked pretty sad. We decided to get them and do a bunch of research on them to make sure they would survive. After our vacation we took them home, we made sure to check in on each other to make sure the crabs were ok. When I got home I went out and bought a 10-gallon tank with the basic stuff. Two of the hermit crabs I took home changed shells as soon as I put some extra ones in the tank. But shortly after my cousin told me her crabs died. It was sad to hear but my crabs were still doing good. About a week after one of my crabs died. The good news is my last crab is doing great and he comes out every time I stick my hand in the tank.
I have 2 quick questions do you leave the bubblers on all day and night? And also is all the noise the bubblers make stressful for the crabs? Thanks!!!
Just setting up my tank hopefully getting some Hermies in a couple of weeks, how do you change the water as I’ve read it needs to be changed Daily? To keep it fresh, do you have to pull all the tubings out and is there an effective way of emptying and refilling?
How do you clean these or change out the water? And how often do you change the water or clean these? Love your video! SO helpful!! I just became a hermit crab owner, 2 large 14 year old hermies and I am trying to make sure they stay happy and healthy.
I need help my hermit crab got out and got paint on his claw and a bit on his 2 legs I don't know what to do its starting to come of from the substrate
Hello, looking to see if you or anybody can help me. I followed all directions to a T and only one of my pools has water flowing. I checked to make sure the tube wasn’t kinked and all seems to look fine but it still won’t work. Only my freshwater pool has bubbles. Any advice would be great
@@hermitshoundsandhorses9971 I purchased everything brand new yesterday. My boyfriend was able to fix it. The tube going from each bowl has to be the same length is what I found out. Got both of them to work now
How do you have the tubing coming out of the top of the tank? I have a sealed glass aquarium top for mine. Wouldn't it let out moisture? I have problems with humidity levels so I want to try this.
Yes! Please do a lot of research on the crabs and never follow the advice from the pet store employees (especially petco). They need a saltwater and a freshwater bowl
@@hermitshoundsandhorses9971 okay thank you. also my crabs have been under the eco earth for a day or two and they aren’t molting so what are they doing?
I just made these and they are great! thanks for helping me improve my crabitat!
Yay! Glad that I could help!
Thanks these really helped my humidity as well!
Even better is use 4 containers, 2 that stay in the substrate that the actual pools sit inside of for easy removal of the pool.

I love to see this change grow I've been a subscriber since you were at 100 subs I have had my hermit crabs for 10 years
It's so cool that you have had your crabs for that long! Thanks for continuing to support me for so long!
Definitely making this (but without the pump) 😄 thanks
I don’t even own or plan to own a hermit crab anytime soon, I’m just here for DIYs

You can buy the T tool attachments at Petco or pet smart in the aquarium section next to the tubing. That’s where I’ve seen them.
Walmart
Thanks so much for making these vids Ive been learning about how to care for hermit crabs for a year and I'm almost ready to own them
i think you’ll do great!
Thank you for the great video! I just added two larger pools today and I was wondering what that plastic mesh was called so I could buy some. Now I know! Can't wait to add the bubbler!
Its called craft mesh! You can find it in almost any craft section at any store! I get mine from the yarn section at walmart
@@sweetdee2999 Thank you! I did find some at Hobby Lobby.
How do you close the lid with the aquarium tubing coming out of the top? I have a folding wire top for my aquarium so they don't climb out, any tips?
Should they go on the side where the heating pad is or the cooler side?

How do I get the line out of the tank lid?? Without creating a way for the hermit crabs to escape?
Can you mix water and sea salt to make salt water?
How do you clean them ?? I doubled the layer but the bubbler tubing goes through the mesh in the top one making it difficult to just take it out and dump them out ???
Thanks for the help. But I have a question how do you clean it out because I just want to know so when I do what you did I will know. :D
I already bought the hermit crab I went and bought some supplies but I don't have bubblers in his pool will he be okay without them for a couple days
Thank you for these clear instructions. Just made mine. 🥰
You’re welcome 😊
nice. I made mine similar to these and the crabs love them!
That's great!

Can I use Ocean Water ?
Hey can hermit crabs survive in freshwater

Either could work. I don't know if one is necessarily better than the other.
Hi, basic question. Why does the water need to be deep enough for the hermit crab to submerge itself? Doesn't it run the risk of drowning? Thanks
I love your ideas when it comes to hermit crabs, so creative!(*´꒳`*)
Also second

Many of them don’t survive the first month due to stress. I would definitely get your lone crab a buddy though.
Hermits, Hounds, and Horses I’m in that process of getting him one but he’s molting. So after he’s done molting I’m gonna get another one
I have 2 quick questions do you leave the bubblers on all day and night? And also is all the noise the bubblers make stressful for the crabs? Thanks!!!
I don't think the noise bothers the crabs. I leave mine on 24/7 although some people put them on a timer.
Ok just checking Thanks!
I like the pool great work and i like it
Thank you!
Very good video, I want to try this out so bad!
Thanks! You should definitely try it!
Hi👋. How often do you have to change the water out with this type of setup? Thanks so much. Great video.💖🙏
I change mine every 1 or 2 weeks. It depends on how much they use it and the size of the container you use.
I love this your stuff is my hornet crabs fav
Thank you!
You were so helpful thank you

I double layer the container and just take the first container out. Bigger containers don't need to be changed as often.
can i make rock steps instead of plastic canvas?

I dump the water out and rinse the rocks with a strainer once a week.
I'm scared they won't be able to climb the plastic canvas or is it something they're guaranteed to be able to do

Hi, can you tell us how many watts your air pump has? I don't want something that's too powerful and gets water everywhere.
1.5 and it works great for me.

I have an aquarium lid that already has some little gaps and opening. Not sure how you would work it with a sealed glass lid.
What kind of substrate do you have? I find a mixture of eco earth/play sand and wetting it enough, keeps the humidity levels stable.
Hi. Do I turn on the air pump all the time? Thanks!
It depends on your humidity level. Most people leave them on all the time, but if it is super powerful and humidity is high it can flood the tank.
So the person I got mine from said they are not saltwater hermit crabs so do I need a pool?
Yes! Please do a lot of research on the crabs and never follow the advice from the pet store employees (especially petco). They need a saltwater and a freshwater bowl
