@@dmzamzow the c150s are still rocking at kbjc. Still a wonderful airport too! But I wish I could of seen all the endless fields when you were flying. All developed now sadly

Amarillo by morning. Born there in '49...lived high on the caprock about 30 miles NE. Thoughts? Route 66, 1955, alive & kicking running through town amidst a sea of NEON signs & hundreds of tourist courts & motels. Cool summer mornings awakening to open second story windows & a view of tall, wavy seas of wheat covering hundreds of acres. Jack rabbits 3 feet tall. Brand new Bell Helicopters for Viet Nam being flight tested from Amarillo's airport, & B-52s shooting touch & goes. Weather? ...well, it's hard to describe the approach of a thunderstorm nearing a 100,000 ft tall racing down from the north over caprock and down upon you. I've seen it go from clear & warm to raining mud, & then freezing winds & snow....all in one morning. There's a poker game there where literal fortunes are won or lost in a single pot. Think, " I'll raise ya my ranch near Austin and two helicopters!" type of bets
@@boogerwood we flew at a multitude of levels and most were pretty turbulent that day and found an altitude lower that was pretty smooth. There was not much traffic which made it ideal aswell.
Just flew my Ovation 3 from Las Vegas to Amarillo and back a couple of weeks ago. Then a week later from Vegas to Houston and back. Incredible birds. Try 20 LOP next time. I was 174TAS at about 11.4 gph at 11k. BTW museum at AMA is very small. Coolest thing they had other than the DC3 was the Shuttle simulator Gulfstream.
I lost a spinner on my Bellanca at Amarillo once enroute from Abilene to Denver and declared my first and only emergency. I learned that when ATC asks for number of souls on board, that equates to how many ambulances to order because when I landed, there were two waiting.
@@SirDrifto in my flying days, I had an engine out that I got restarted before off airport landing but I did turn around and abort that trip. Turned out to be a stuck carb float. I had two electrical failures at night and on one I didn’t have a flashlight but my grandad was a passenger and he smoked a pipe and had matches. The other night electrical failure required the tower light signals. I had the fabric rip on my Bellanca once inflight requiring a precautionary landing and I got stuck over an overcast once that was unnerving. Flying is fun but you do deal with unexpected situations from time to time and I got through each one of them. These affordable planes are becoming antiques and a CX flight is akin to taking a Model A Ford on one. Still fun though. The navigation part is what I enjoyed. Putting a line on a chart pre GPS and getting there.
@@SirDrifto My Dad flew a lot for business and so I grew up with it and had lots of right seat training before I started but I was always super cautious. I’m 63 and looking at buying another one. From how your comment is written , not sure your pressurization is working correctly or too many years of sniffing 100LL 😂. Anyways 337s are super cool always have a soft spot for them, very unique sound.
Beautiful Video and bird with a talented pilot. Keep them coming.
Thanks, can’t wait to do a Texas run with you guys!
I learned to fly at KBJC back in 1972, when it was still called Jeffco. The tower was where the terminal is now. Fun days in Cessna 150s!

Chance sighting of one of the two airworthy B-29s in the world? Kickass. Looks like she was scooting, too.
Probably my favorite part of that trip. So cool to think it was a B29
Nice paint job on that bird!

More MOONEY trips please.
@@steveparker576 you got it!
It would be great to see somebody buy Mooney and get it going again. It would be neat to see these planes with Continental TD engine.
I thought China bought Mooney? Just like they seem to be buying everything else over here.
I absolutely agree. You know they built an Aclaim Uktra for a customer about 4 months ago. Made to order , and around $850k I heard

Great vid. Curious though why you don’t fly standard altitudes? Also, was that ForeFlight with the “check gear” warning?
