    Exactly what i was looking for. Took my v twin carb out for cleaning and couldn't remember how the springs went back together. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video to help us all out.

    My V Twin is built where the throttle cable is hooked to a stamped sheet metal wheel. When the throttle is pushed past full on, it goes to choke. The circular plate pushes the choke lever tab down and causes its other end to travel upward, putting the carburetor in choke condition. Mine had a piece of mud get onto where the pivot was, limiting the choke lever movement. I knocked off the bit of mud.

    I have a craftsman zts 7500 that has a similar motor. B&S v twin 22hp. The throttle and choke cables froze up from being left in the elements. When I finally got a replacement cable assembly in, the old cables were already removed from their respective attachment points. Now I'm having the HARDEST time getting the new ones back into place.

    I bought aftermarket carb for my 2011 YT4500 craftsman with intek 26hp v twin. Linkage was my big issue, also the aftermarket carb had different looking auto choke connector. So I took off the original and put it on the aftermarket carb. In process I had to bend linkage etc, then motor didn't respond to speed, just full blast, I bought some aftermarket linkage off Amazon and custom cut and bent them. I have it so it starts right up and idles good, throttle speed works now, haven't mowed yet though. Only issue I notice it the motor you can see the throttle linkage moving off and on like it's hunting for correct idle. I ordered oem linkages, but taking forever for briggs to send. I don't want to start messing with changing the governer tension, since I messed up trying to modify the linkage to the non factory carb.Thinking maybe adding a spring could help the throttle hunting, dunno. Both auto choke and throttle linkages need to be right on, they work in unison. I spent hours past week just getting mower to start, then would Rev high to point I turned it off, don't mess with modifying linkage. I need use of mower bad, for my 1.5 acres and it's been down for 2 weeks. Wish I just left the old surging carb on now.

    Question I’ve got my father in laws Briggs v twin with an auto choke I’m trying to figure out. He has a broken thin wire spring wrapped around the throttle linkage. Not attached to anything on either side. He is having a problem where it surges and stops when it gets hot. Any idea where that spring came from?

    Was looking for where the carb linkage connection points are. Had a hard time finding them but got a good look at the butterfly end at 1 minute 39 seconds into your video and thereafter for the other end. May I suggest, either zoom in and/or zoom out as you go for a closeup of 'whatever'. It is a great explanation video, but with each instruction point already being zoomed in it is hard to orient myself (79 yr old eyes) to we are, for sure, on the carburetor. After all that being said, IT WAS A GREAT HELP ! ! ! I got the carb linkage on with the correct ends in their proper holes, thanks to you. 4 stars+

    When I move trottle cable it does not effect the motor. It wont start unless I manually reach down and push on choke. When do this it starts and runs if I let go of choke it stalls. The trottle cable does nothing it moves the cable and turns the lineage but it does not move or governor or choke. I have adjusted both spings, idle and governor spring. When I secure choke in place with small wire it runs great. Can you help?

    My V twin I replaced the governor inside the engine and now the lower half of the throttle control doesn't seem to slow the engine. It idles high all the time and goes faster when the throttle is moved to the high speed side. may need to bend that tab you talked about. should there be tension on those springs all the time. It also surges when it is warmed up and no load on it.

    what would cause a B&S 407777-3195-G5 to rev out of control? It was running just fine using the mower to mow that day then to haul some light loads in the trailer to the trash/burn pile, then fired the mower back up and started to rev uncontrollable, throttle level does not help, however with a push the throttle lever on the carb. up manually it will adjust as idle speed.

      These engines are bad about the internal governor piece breaking or sticking. Try to adjust the governor first just in case it came loose, then bad as i hate to say it, if its the internal piece it will have to be tore down to fix. Thanks for Watching!!!

    Great video!!! My problem is I bought a new Briggs Vanguard 26HP Commercial sb to replace an original 16 yo Scag Tiger Cub engine but the throttle will only open partially (about 1/3 throttle) then its up against spring tension and forces the throttle back down. It won't even open up enough to engage the pto without killing the engine. Have had it off to try to find the reason to no avail. Any help would be appreciated as the seller won't refund and only ("sell") and have No technical abilities! Or want to help. Thanks in advance for your input and great vids.

      Check the plastic manifolds on the front and back of the carb for warpage. Mine would run great until I engaged the blades then it would sputter out. As it turns out there was about a half mm gap between the intake and carb creating a vacuum leak. They run about $150 new, so I put some permatex on instead to make up the difference and problem solved.

    Hey, great video. I purchased a new 25hp B&S Professional engine(vtwin) to replace my old 26hp B&S ELS engine. The older engine has a choke, where as this new engine has no mount for the choke cable. It looks as if its an automatic choke, perhaps? Do I just leave the choke cable off? Also, how do decide how far to adjust my Throttle cable, when tightening it to the carb? Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  4 года назад

      Thanks! Yes in that case i would just not leave the choke unhooked, the way i adjust the throttle is, set the control to fast (full throttle, plus full choke in this case) may help to have someone hold it for you, then pull the linkage where the cable goes so the engine is set to full throttle (and choke on the auto choke engines) then tighten it down. Hope this makes sense, i do have a video explaining how to set it, on a different engine but should point you in the right direction... ruclips.net/video/1WWpeyDbHjA/видео.html Thanks for Watching!!!

      @@fnaguitarplayer9 thanks for your reply! We replaced the entire bottom cast piece along with the gaskets. There were hair line stress cracks on the old one. This is what my small engine mechanic just told me. Also, he had already played around with adjusting it with no luck.

    Which slot does the linkage from the throttle level hook into the small circle?

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  4 года назад +1

      The cable will connect in the hole on the front and there should just be a spring on the other side if i remember right, because it sets the tension on the governor arm. Thanks for Watching!!!

    I am a little confused. I changed out the carburetor on mine and I was expecting that when the throttle was opened, it would cause the throttle linkage to move and actuate the intakes in the carburetor. After the replacement, it would not start, but when I manually hold "up" the linkage on the throttle side it starts up fine. Can someone help me understand what the issue is? Thanks!

      The arm should come preset, but i could be wrong, you would normally just have to connect and adjust the cables. Thanks for Watching!!!

    Have a Briggs 27 horse turf series with 87 hours (2017 Ferris zero turn). Removed the air filter and cleaned up the foam cover and put back together. Ever since the engine will surge when under a load. Could dirt have gotten into the carb and if so is it hard to remove and clean up or would that be the problem?

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  5 лет назад

      Its possible, but usually when dirt is a problem is when it gets in the fuel and clogs a jet, it should get clogged if dirt got in from the intake. You could try spraying some carb cleaner in while its running and see if that helps it. Thanks for Watching!!!

    Guitar player: Me too. Great vid. You mentioned there are more than one carbs used on different engines. Can you tell me if they are interchangeable to the different engines. My Carb. is identical to yours. I think someone installed a different carb and manifold assembly on mine. is that possible would it make a difference?? I'm having problems ordering carburetor parts and gaskets. Also linkage rods are all twisted and bent for some reason?. I was thinking about purchasing an assembly for my model engine in e-bay. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Engine numbers are 21.5hp B&S, M#445777, type 0172-E1 It ran good for a while. It just started running bad.

      I hear ya! Thanks, I was mainly referring to brands on this particular engine, there maybe other carbs that will work and would explain the bent linkages. Its hard to say without actually looking at it. Thanks for Watching!!!

    Show me the picture of throttle cable hook up

  • @aqparks
    @aqparks 6 лет назад

    When I increase the throttle, the throttle cable rotates the throttle control counter-clockwise, which puts tension on the governor spring. When I decrease the throttle, the reverse happens, as expected. What doesn't move is the throttle linkage, which actually controls the throttle body. When I crank my engine it runs at very high RPM and I am concerned it is running away. Will the governor adjust the governor arm as the engine warms up? I always shut the mower off b/c I am scared its going to throw something! I suppose I should mention that I just removed and cleaned the carb (no rebuild).

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah that is normal, as soon as it fires up and the governor starts working (when it comes up to speed the weights sling out and will push the rod) it will move the linkage to idle or whatever it is set at, if it doesn't idle down then you do have a problem, usually just needing to be adjusted. Thanks for Watching!!!

    Until I saw your video, I sure didn't know that the lower "tab" holding the lower end of the governor idle spring (smaller spring) was used to help change the idle speed. You sure saved me big time there!
    I broke the throttle linkage on my engine and made a replacement. I made what I thought was a good match size wise, but was not 100% sure if the length was "really" right. I falsely assumed that just by adjusting the governor arms setting , that would basically compensate for that linkage being slightly off length-wise. However, using that new linkage, I found that the (Larger) main governor spring was still fairly loose (sloppy) when the engine was off & with the engine running at full throttle, it ran noticeably slower than before. I could push down on the governor arm and get it to speed up.
    Questions
    Q 1) Do you know the correct length of the throttle linkage at the points where it engages both of the 2 appropriate holes?
    Q2) Should the (Larger) main governor spring be under slight tension at "off" or what?
    PS
    Really good video, very helpful!

      @fnaguitarplayer9  6 лет назад

      I hear ya! Glad to help out! Yeah you almost have to exact part to replace them, to do it right. I don't have the specs handy, but there will be a slight to no tension at idle. not much, but there should be quite a bit when you throttle up. hope this helps. Thanks for Watching!!!

      It can be several things, worst case is the internal governor, but it can be a loose linkage, or spring. Or the governor may just need adjusted. Thanks for Watching!!!
