I played this song on the flute for a friend’s funeral as requested by her last week. I decided to play this song as it is always a spiritual for me. I was asked to play as the casket went down into the ground so I didn’t want to choose a song that was too emotional but a song that made me and hopefully others feel like we transcended to eternity. Gabriel’a Oboe was the one. Thank you for your beautiful music and video ❤
They played this song at my Gramp's funeral in November 2015, but with oboe. He bought me my oboe in 2006 as I left for college and changed my life forever- I wouldn't have been able to continue oboe if he hadn't. Heart wrenching piece. Your version is beautiful.

I had this melodie stick in my mind since I was at high school. could not know what song was and where did I hear it from. I found this week I movie-list to refresh history and The mission was there. What an overwhelming moment when I hear it again. this time I won't forget it was from this movie. I am 33 now by the way.

I want to share my story When I was in the belly of my mother (RIP) she used to make me listen the soundtrack of the movie "The mission" over and over. Amongst this soundtrack, there was "Gabriel's oboe". I remember when she told me that when I was 1 year old, she put on the radio that song. Just immediately, I went crawling all the way from my craddle to that stereo and I remained listening to the whole soundtrack. Time passed. I was 14 and I started studying flute. One of the songs I learned at first from ear was this. My first performance ever was in the church. My mother ended up in tears. I was a rather shy guy. But then this song became my signature song: it's my favorite one, not only because of what it means, but also because I can convey what my soul feels, together with a sonority technique learned at Conservatory. Regarding to the performance, I don't like when it's in the higher octave. I play it in a medium register because it sounds expresively. But still it's a masterpiece.
+fourteen I think, senior Ennio tried to recreate spiritual music of XVIII century. In the movie friar Gabriel attracts Indians to himself and to Christianity, starting with playing this melody.
