I played this song on the flute for a friend’s funeral as requested by her last week. I decided to play this song as it is always a spiritual for me. I was asked to play as the casket went down into the ground so I didn’t want to choose a song that was too emotional but a song that made me and hopefully others feel like we transcended to eternity. Gabriel’a Oboe was the one. Thank you for your beautiful music and video ❤

You gave me inspiration to work harder after I was disqualified from a major competition. I'm 11 and play the violin. I've always told that I need more body and facial expression which is why I think I couldn't make it to the final round of that competition. They played this song at my Gramp's funeral in November 2015, but with oboe. He bought me my oboe in 2006 as I left for college and changed my life forever- I wouldn't have been able to continue oboe if he hadn't. Heart wrenching piece. Your version is beautiful.

I want to share my story When I was in the belly of my mother (RIP) she used to make me listen the soundtrack of the movie "The mission" over and over. Amongst this soundtrack, there was "Gabriel's oboe". I remember when she told me that when I was 1 year old, she put on the radio that song. Just immediately, I went crawling all the way from my craddle to that stereo and I remained listening to the whole soundtrack. Time passed. I was 14 and I started studying flute. One of the songs I learned at first from ear was this. My first performance ever was in the church. My mother ended up in tears. I was a rather shy guy. But then this song became my signature song: it's my favorite one, not only because of what it means, but also because I can convey what my soul feels, together with a sonority technique learned at Conservatory. Regarding to the performance, I don't like when it's in the higher octave. I play it in a medium register because it sounds expresively. But still it's a masterpiece.
