  • Will 10-Minute Delivery Apps Change India’s Shopping Habits? | Firstpost Tech & Trade
India's quick commerce apps are reshaping the country’s shopping habits, promising essentials at your doorstep in just 10 minutes. The surge in demand for ultra-fast delivery, driven by the COVID-19 pandemic and embraced by the convenience-seeking middle class, has led to the meteoric rise of platforms like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto. Operating through a network of "dark stores," these apps have captured nearly half of India's online grocery market. According to Goldman Sachs, quick deliveries accounted for $5 billion, or 45% of India's current $11 billion online grocery market in April. However, behind the dazzling growth and billion-dollar valuations lie challenges-delivery partners grappling with working conditions, small retailers facing declining sales, and questions about sustainable practices.

Kirana shops r going no where, ask them to deliver 20 ltrs water can in 10 mins 😂😂😂.
Kirana just need to be updated. Try returning the product, which is not good/damaged instantly.
I say kirana should start charging convenience fee, minimum purchase, peak times cgarges 😂

The markup combined with all those platform fees, gst etc. I prefer to walk to my preferred grocery store. I can examine the products before buying and get to exercise a little every time I need something.

10 or 30 min grocery delivery is not a long- term sustainable business model. They will soon increase the delivery charges after draining VCs money and people will shift back to their old habits. For instance Zomato charges 50% more fee than they used to, Pizza from ONDC 280 INR, same from Zomato it's 435 INR.
Also, the vegetable quality is very poor and they spray some kind of chemical on all of their veggies and fruits.

So True. Every word. Unfortunately PPL don't care these days n still buy 400+ delivery food. Hope PPL realise this fast n change some habits..like going n eating at restaurants or atleast picking up their food.

My small grocery store will be extinct within 5 years. But as long as quality to price concern...still no one can beat me. It cost me very hard work everyday....I may not continue in future.

*There is a segment of people who are also after "convenience", not just "price". People will pay premium for convenience. It's the same with food delivery. Most of the times, the food you order from the app is more expensive than the restaurant, but people still use these apps as the food gets delivered to their home.*

Problem is the attitude of local shops, they put multiple conditions for home delivery like minimum purchase of Rs.500 etc. Besides, they take hours to deliver the stuff. If they reduce the minimum purchase and keep a number of guys to deliver in 10 min they can remain in business. Else they would lose to competition.

This only works in Urban areas. Not sure if even outskirts of Tier 2 to majority of Tier 3 let alone rural areas would contribute any growth or expansion of these platforms.
