I bought that exact chuck 15 or 20 years ago because it was cheaper than a Jacobs.
All I can say is there is a reason it cheaper than a Jacobs.
It does not grip drill well, and if you gronk on it so it won't slip, then the body winds up and jams.

I dunno Ed - cash is cash. It's kind of down to do you have the time - or will it take away from other things you are doing? Nice chuck to have - if you will enjoy fixing it and you have the time available go for it. If it's going to prevent you making money or doing something you'd rather do somewhere else - then pitch it. Or stick it in a box for when you do have time. 🙂 A fun look though Ed, thanks for sharing.

I have an old one on a drill press and it works perfect . I don't know where it's supposed to be a "cheap" chuck . Some of the best machinists in the world use them . They're around 500. now . Definitely not cheap . lol I took mine apart, cleaned it up and "oiled" it (you're not supposed to use thick grease) and didn't need special tools .

How many times you going to use the chuck? Does the use justify the cost?
