Paula Jai Parker spoke about being homeless at one point in her career. She noted that she lost her home in 2007, and a writer’s strike happened in the middle of a series she was featured in on ABC Family. She detailed the journey that led her to living in a hotel room and how she ended up getting out of it. In the middle of her journey, she ended up having a child and taking a break from the industry.
Parker then told a story about her and Regina Hall had to get food stamps at one point.

This is why when you are in Hollywood but not that BIG STAR, I think it's very important to have a trade or something in case there's no roles at the moment. Relying on acting to pay bills when no one will hire you is tough. Have a backup. Learn a skill anything that can make you money so your not stressing and crying.
FACTS, you can be a GREAT actor/actress and yet still not GOOD enough for the roles you KNOW you can conquer. BEST to have that backup plan.

Listening to he interview I’m just amazed that such a talented, beautiful actress is also so humble and appreciative of the opportunities she has been afforded! And also willing to admit past mistakes and failings. And very inspiring how she had great success and money, lost it, but was able to persevere and become successful again.

When you're a contract worker you should always always have at least 6 months worth of expenses preferably 1 year. Not all actors are rich but most people that act on sitcoms get paid very well. Plus to be in the 45% tax bracket she had to have made bank. The least amount if money you have to make this year to join that bracket is $517,000.
Live on 60% and bank the rest.
