I never considered myself an alcoholic as booze has never stopped me working or functioning, but I've always had a couple of super-strong beers before I went to bed to 'help me sleep', along with a big drink at weekends. I come from three generations of heavy social drinkers and never considered it a problem. A few weeks ago during lockdown I said to my partner I needed to go out shopping as I'd run out of beer - she said (only half jokingly) that she didn't think I could go a night without it. Something got through to me and I thought I'd prove her wrong (just to deny her the pleasure of being right!). It was difficult - it took me over 5 hours to get to sleep while sober but the pride I felt in myself the next day was so strong I've since had 9 sober nights in the last month. Big deal I hear you all say - but that was my first alcohol free night in over 30 years! I'm still drinking but taking one or two nights a week off now and trying to cut down on weekdays. Now I'm starting to feel I may be able to cut down even more as I'm enjoying not feeling so groggy in the morning . I realise my story is nothing compared to you all below, but it's a major step forward for me.
Keep it up. One day you won't even think of that drink. Alcohol ruined my marriage the pain your family feels is something you don't know because your having your own party and you think things are okay. Best of luck to you.
are you hearing the voices? my x husband said he'd hear them start up. I don't know if he meant in his mind or what. He only ever drank beer. 3 DUIS one literally after I'd prayed that night he'd get one. We're separated now. Congrats on taking the first steps towards freedom.
Read or listen to " the naked mind ", " how to control alcohol" and" alcohol explained" . If u don't stop drinking or at least cut down big time your an alcoholic, seems like your dependent at least. 40 days sober here after 20 +yrs...trust me I didn't think a couple books would save me but they did.
Try a 30 day no booze challenge. Didn’t think I could do it but it was actually easier than I thought and it gives you a good sense of power, pride and control. Going for a 60 day next.
She's told herself she's not smart and been told she's not smart so much that she's internalized it. Notice how she also keeps stressing that she wants to be alone. That's not true either, she wants deep down to be accepted and loved and sociable but when you get hurt by literally everyone in your life you can become convinced that you really want to be alone, forever. I hope she gets better but I know from experience that it won't happen till she puts down the hooch, the stuff just masks all your problems so that you can never deal with the root issue till you're sober.
I know all to well the grip she is describing about alcohol. Today makes 98 days without alcohol and im so grateful to be outta that death grip it had my mind in....I pray for Ingrid that she finds her way to rise outta that hole cause it's a dark lonely place. God bless you Ingrid. 🙏🏽

I have many anxiety disorders and I can agree. Everyone deserves to feel safe. Unless you've had a panic disorder or severe anxiety, most people don't get it, you're right. It's an invisible disease.
Not many people can relate or even understand what your statement really means. It's the truth unfortunately and it takes a lot of stuff willpower to understand that the strength to go into the world comes from within your self and not the bottle.
I saw many of these talks. It was the best of them yet. "we drank and we cried, we ate and we cried..." Poetic and honest, simple but deep. Thank you dear Mark for these precious documentaries you add to the world. Productive, Skillful, Selfless, Brave. What a fine human being you are!

Although, not everyone experiences addiction the same, but the disease is relatively predictable in terms of what it steals from us. It robs us of our time, our minds, our hearts and our relationships. You have been robbed of many things, Ingrid, but one thing it hasn't taken a way and that's your lovely soul. I do hope you can find peace and get the support you need.
My best Uncle died of Alcoholism about 2 weeks ago. And lost my cousin ( his dad) of Alcoholism like 4 years ago. That really 💔 shattered my heart. I hope she gets back on track. She deserves it.❤️
I've been exactly where she is... With the insanity and feeling dumb... 40s all day.... Feeling rejected by earth..... I am 4 years sober and my health is messed up... It's tuff but my mind came back... I see everything so clearly and everything is OK.

Mental illness and childhood trauma is the No1 cause of most addictions. More comforting to just get out of it than face a cruel and harsh world. There but for the grace of God go any of us - if you had a loving mom and dad and a safe upbringing, go thank them right now.
Right fucked up how you can go to bars or liquor stores and buy unlimited amounts but you can't smoke a fucking plant in some states if it actually improves your life!

@@timothylane7672 Pot was legal during prohibition. Government guy in charge of prohibition knew he was going to loose his job when alcohol became legal so he went after pot. Alcohol is far more dangerous than pot because people don't commit crimes & aren't violent when they're on pot alone. That only happens when there's another substance involved.
this was sad, her last statement about why god isnt helping her and she wonders it is bc im poor, not too smart, not to pretty, etc. shes had a lot working against her. And for a poor, poc in the inner city with no family support, who struggles w school..what else could we expect of her? she turned to what she always saw her Dad turn to. She mentioned an angel intervened in her suicide attempt. we are all holy beings and children of god, above all. i hope she finds healing. ...it was also sad to see her chugging/wincing from that 40. seeing her addiction in action. people self medicate when life is too painful.

Im just guessing though. Good Luck to all. I have problems too...depression even though i have no reason...take meds they dont help. Been going on for 35 years. I was VERY shy when young. No confidence. Good parents but not rich, not dirt poor. But embarrassingly poor. (Cars/house etc). Had good clothes, food on table...& great neighborhood friends...then started worrying about whay people thought of me & to negativity & no self confidence & ANXIETY. Now i have no more energy...but do know that eating right (no preservatives, no sugar, no bread) & trying to eat CLEAN (veggies, fruit anything NOT processed will make a person feel SO much better. I have been their, right now ive fallen off the wagon. Once u quit the sugars & breads you LOSE all CRAVINGS for breads & that is true. But if u let them slowing creep back in your diet you're going to feel shitty...pick yourself up and get back on the wagon (TRY NOT TO FALL OFF & IF U DO....GET BACK ON..(Im proof from April of 2019 to September I 2020 i did great & lost approx 50 lbs...now ive gaind 30 back. I need to start cold turkey again & i know i can do it. April 2019 was diag type 2 diabetic that os what changed my frame of mind. I ate my way healthily out of diabetes but now doing terrible!

Maybe instead of 'what more could we expect from her," I could have said, given the poverty, societal racism, and lack of opportunities and resources, the odds are so much against her in succeeding...? I really appreciate how down to earth and honest this woman is. She's really funny too. She knows she needs help for her mental illness and she's just caught in a cycle of addiction. She seems incredibly lucid for drinking all day, she's very aware of what she's doing but she just can't help it. I hope she gets some help because she is really a cool person.
It's a miracle these people manage to drink all day everyday with barely any food or water and somehow survive, the human body amazes me. It's real sad though.
Mark, thank you so much for giving people that have been through hardship and trauma a voice and platform to tell their stories. You've shown that sexual and physical abuse in childhood is the common denominator in the likelihood of an individual experiencing problems later in their lives with mental illness, drug abuse, and engaging in risk/self destructive behaviours.
My heart breaks for her and her family. My sister is an alcoholic and I spent my entire life trying to help her. Her addiction is so bad that losing her 4 small kids, one with a serious heart condition, wasn’t enough. She has been through numerous rehab stays and nothing is ever enough for her. I wonder if the alcoholic ever thinks that their family is in just as much pain. It never occurred to me that she would ever think I abandoned her and didn’t love her because it’s the complete opposite. Addiction is a family breaker.
I pray Ingrid is doing better today. I pray she finds a better environment and stick to rehab. Skid row is the worst place a drug addict can find themselves. She is very pretty. Imagine what she would look like if she wasn't an alcoholic. I keep all these people in these videos In my thoughts and in my prayers. 🙏♥️🙏
This is such a sweet good honest person....I believe she would benefit from a good program structured around her disabilities and alot of patience/no judgement. I wish her all the best going forward 🙏

Oh gotcha. Just watched the other ones she doesnt want to. And being in medical field alot of times I see people say they do but put forth no effort all I can do is pray for them but again good vibes I was confused lol
She's also drinking (during this interview) to stave off the shakes, dry heaves, seizures and other stuff that comes with withdrawals. It's physically horrible to go through alcohol withdrawals for someone who is a chronic alcoholic. It is sad. I also hope she finds some kindness from people and recovery help.
@@jenniferwilcox9759 Withdrawals take some time to kick in, I'm no expert but I'm sure the half-life elimination is long enough for her to talk for 20mins. without having any of those symptoms. She's drinking for the psychological numbing effect, I think.
Pobresita . I grew up with my dad a alcoholic and heroin addict GOD REST HIS SOUL he passed away recently to cirrhosis of the liver from drinking it's very hard it's a sickness I was a addict for many years I have been clean for 18 yrs it's a vicious cycle I hope she gets help🙏

You should go to Alaska, Mark. The rates of alcoholism there are astounding... the state just a lot of unique challenges most people in the US know about. The towns there are super isolated, too.
I was there 7 years ago and 2 years ago and wow, state law prohibits the sale of booze between 5am-8am. But local ordinances vary around the state. I remember in Juneau and me included, we, the band, and the staff were drinking until like 4am. I'm surprised I could even climb the stairs to my room.

I don't know, not like something I'd do, drunk teens are annoying af I remember being one... but my mother always did that, her parents traveled Europe during the 70s you know everywhere but America children drink in their teens. I wouldn't want to be responsible for that lol even if they came home drunk I think I'd get mad I'm not dealing with that lol... But lots of people parents have. There are laws that make it legal to give children alcohol with their parents in a home in most American states, too.

I mean problems came to her life and she found her "shelter" in alcohol. Honestly, my parents drink like almost every day. My mother and my grandma is a smoker. I drank alcohol first at 2(accident) and 4 intentionally. I smoke my first cigarette at 16. Mentally, I'm quite unwell, but I'm not addicted to either. Sometimes I drink in moderation and a few times a year, I smoke to calm down my nerves, but honestly, keeping my "I'm an unproblematic, happy girl" facade is more important for me than escaping my problems, especially, because one of my friends is there for me everytime I need someone to talk to. It would be a shame if I'd start to go downhill.
That thinking limits people, your past does not make you. It is apart if you, but not who you are! She has a chance any day she chooses to do the difficult. Too much of that thinking kills people of there potential.
Can't stand drinking anymore. When I was younger I got fked up and drink and drugs, but when the hangovers started to last 3, 4 days, noped the fk out.
Im tired of it getting older want change, brother died on my watch friends dying getting into fights blacking out etc, but lifes too short either you change or dont it goes by regardless
you weren't that bad off if yku were getting hangovers. You stop getting hangovers because you drink all of the time. Thats when things start to go downhill.
As a alcoholic for 12 years drinking over a 6 pack a day I hear this shit addiction is a serious medical condition not a character fault this is why universal healthcare is crucial this person is a beautiful strong survivor

Good morning lovely. I 💜 the encouragement and prayer. I did this yesterday with my 6yr old. I prayed and told the devil he will not occupy space in my home. He will not get a hold of my GOD given blessing (my son) The devil needed to move around. I asked GOD to restore peace in my home. U be blessed 🙏🏾.

Her schizophrenia is a real problem and alcohol is the worst thing she can do instead of taking anti psychotics. She needs a doctor and therapy and rehab but like she said she’s not going to give up the booze. I know what her family said hurts her but she doesn’t take accountability for anything she’s done to them nor even herself. Very sad :(
Damn!!! I have been watching these interviews and i feel like an idiot for complaining about my life!! After listening to these stories i almost cry thinking about how lucky i am and hate myself for feeling sorry for my life sometimes...
The brain is plastic, it can reform and heal plus worrying doesn't help anyone, when we are sick and dying in our bed do you want your loved ones sitting their worrying or do you want them holding space beautifully while you go through what you are going through with love.... Love you :)

I was just recently biopsied and told I might have cancer. Family is going to worry if you tell them and they care about you. If you don’t want them to worry don’t talk and continue to live your life.

I haven’t had a urge to drink in over a year just lost the desire to drink lucky I guess , just hated my kids seeing me drinking everyday and thought about what I was missing out on with the time I wasted just drinking everyday , I could not pass a store after work without buying a 12 pack for years but thank God that phase has passed sure is nice waking up everyday without having to come too , good luck on your journey
My brother is the same, he doesn’t want to grow up. 30years old still living at my parents drinking, not wanting to take responsibility for his life. My parents don’t wanna let him go either, even though he’s not allowed to live there because of subsidized housing. I asked him why you like that bro? And he says he’s angry because when he was little kids would pick on him and he hated that.
I come from a cultural environment in which drinking is the norm, for real, even amongst college educated people. Louisiana culture is crazy, but anyway, I can see myself in her if certain factors had been different. If you have hope Ingrid, you can have a dream, and that dream can become real a lil bit more each time you try to reach it. You have a beautiful spirit Ingrid❤ God is always by your side.

Having a father who is an alcoholic is awful. She sounds exactly like my dad. But my dad doesn't want help he doesn't think he has a problem. He removed all of us from his life he doesn't want anything to do with us. He's verbally and emotionally abusive. We haven't spoke in over a year, It's hard.

Although, not everyone experiences addiction the same, but the disease is relatively predictable in terms of what it steals from us. It robs us of our time, our minds, our hearts and our relationships.
You have been robbed of many things, Ingrid, but one thing it hasn't taken a way and that's your lovely soul. I do hope you can find peace and get the support you need.
My best Uncle died of Alcoholism about 2 weeks ago. And lost my cousin ( his dad) of Alcoholism like 4 years ago.

I've been exactly where she is... With the insanity and feeling dumb... 40s all day.... Feeling rejected by earth..... I am 4 years sober and my health is messed up... It's tuff but my mind came back... I see everything so clearly and everything is OK.

And that was the reason I was drinking in the first place.... When I was drunk it gave me the ability to hang out and tolerate idiots.
The amount of metal illness in addiction and homelessness is astounding. So sad.

@@timothylane7672 Pot was legal during prohibition. Government guy in charge of prohibition knew he was going to loose his job when alcohol became legal so he went after pot. Alcohol is far more dangerous than pot because people don't commit crimes & aren't violent when they're on pot alone. That only happens when there's another substance involved.

this was sad, her last statement about why god isnt helping her and she wonders it is bc im poor, not too smart, not to pretty, etc. shes had a lot working against her. And for a poor, poc in the inner city with no family support, who struggles w school..what else could we expect of her? she turned to what she always saw her Dad turn to. She mentioned an angel intervened in her suicide attempt. we are all holy beings and children of god, above all. i hope she finds healing. ...it was also sad to see her chugging/wincing from that 40. seeing her addiction in action. people self medicate when life is too painful.

Im just guessing though. Good Luck to all. I have problems too...depression even though i have no reason...take meds they dont help. Been going on for 35 years. I was VERY shy when young. No confidence. Good parents but not rich, not dirt poor. But embarrassingly poor. (Cars/house etc). Had good clothes, food on table...& great neighborhood friends...then started worrying about whay people thought of me & to negativity & no self confidence & ANXIETY. Now i have no more energy...but do know that eating right (no preservatives, no sugar, no bread) & trying to eat CLEAN (veggies, fruit anything NOT processed will make a person feel SO much better. I have been their, right now ive fallen off the wagon. Once u quit the sugars & breads you LOSE all CRAVINGS for breads & that is true. But if u let them slowing creep back in your diet you're going to feel shitty...pick yourself up and get back on the wagon (TRY NOT TO FALL OFF & IF U DO....GET BACK ON..(Im proof from April of 2019 to September I 2020 i did great & lost approx 50 lbs...now ive gaind 30 back. I need to start cold turkey again & i know i can do it. April 2019 was diag type 2 diabetic that os what changed my frame of mind. I ate my way healthily out of diabetes but now doing terrible!

I really appreciate how down to earth and honest this woman is. She's really funny too. She knows she needs help for her mental illness and she's just caught in a cycle of addiction. She seems incredibly lucid for drinking all day, she's very aware of what she's doing but she just can't help it. I hope she gets some help because she is really a cool person.

It's a miracle these people manage to drink all day everyday with barely any food or water and somehow survive, the human body amazes me. It's real sad though.

You've shown that sexual and physical abuse in childhood is the common denominator in the likelihood of an individual experiencing problems later in their lives with mental illness, drug abuse, and engaging in risk/self destructive behaviours.
My heart breaks for her and her family. My sister is an alcoholic and I spent my entire life trying to help her. Her addiction is so bad that losing her 4 small kids, one with a serious heart condition, wasn’t enough. She has been through numerous rehab stays and nothing is ever enough for her. I wonder if the alcoholic ever thinks that their family is in just as much pain. It never occurred to me that she would ever think I abandoned her and didn’t love her because it’s the complete opposite. Addiction is a family breaker.
I pray Ingrid is doing better today. I pray she finds a better environment and stick to rehab. Skid row is the worst place a drug addict can find themselves. She is very pretty. Imagine what she would look like if she wasn't an alcoholic. I keep all these people in these videos In my thoughts and in my prayers. 🙏♥️🙏

It's physically horrible to go through alcohol withdrawals for someone who is a chronic alcoholic. It is sad. I also hope she finds some kindness from people and recovery help.
@@jenniferwilcox9759 Withdrawals take some time to kick in, I'm no expert but I'm sure the half-life elimination is long enough for her to talk for 20mins. without having any of those symptoms. She's drinking for the psychological numbing effect, I think.

Pobresita . I grew up with my dad a alcoholic and heroin addict GOD REST HIS SOUL he passed away recently to cirrhosis of the liver from drinking it's very hard it's a sickness I was a addict for many years I have been clean for 18 yrs it's a vicious cycle I hope she gets help🙏

You should go to Alaska, Mark. The rates of alcoholism there are astounding... the state just a lot of unique challenges most people in the US know about. The towns there are super isolated, too.
I was there 7 years ago and 2 years ago and wow, state law prohibits the sale of booze between 5am-8am. But local ordinances vary around the state. I remember in Juneau and me included, we, the band, and the staff were drinking until like 4am. I'm surprised I could even climb the stairs to my room.

There are laws that make it legal to give children alcohol with their parents in a home in most American states, too.

It's tough to give up something you see as medicine.
I think alot of addicts self medicate through mental illness. Poverty is so abusive.
That's the main reason people become addicts.

Honestly, my parents drink like almost every day. My mother and my grandma is a smoker. I drank alcohol first at 2(accident) and 4 intentionally. I smoke my first cigarette at 16.
Mentally, I'm quite unwell, but I'm not addicted to either. Sometimes I drink in moderation and a few times a year, I smoke to calm down my nerves, but honestly, keeping my "I'm an unproblematic, happy girl" facade is more important for me than escaping my problems, especially, because one of my friends is there for me everytime I need someone to talk to. It would be a shame if I'd start to go downhill.

That thinking limits people, your past does not make you. It is apart if you, but not who you are! She has a chance any day she chooses to do the difficult. Too much of that thinking kills people of there potential.

Her schizophrenia is a real problem and alcohol is the worst thing she can do instead of taking anti psychotics. She needs a doctor and therapy and rehab but like she said she’s not going to give up the booze. I know what her family said hurts her but she doesn’t take accountability for anything she’s done to them nor even herself. Very sad :(

The brain is plastic, it can reform and heal plus worrying doesn't help anyone, when we are sick and dying in our bed do you want your loved ones sitting their worrying or do you want them holding space beautifully while you go through what you are going through with love.... Love you :)

I was just recently biopsied and told I might have cancer. Family is going to worry if you tell them and they care about you. If you don’t want them to worry don’t talk and continue to live your life.

I haven’t had a urge to drink in over a year just lost the desire to drink lucky I guess , just hated my kids seeing me drinking everyday and thought about what I was missing out on with the time I wasted just drinking everyday , I could not pass a store after work without buying a 12 pack for years but thank God that phase has passed sure is nice waking up everyday without having to come too , good luck on your journey

My brother is the same, he doesn’t want to grow up. 30years old still living at my parents drinking, not wanting to take responsibility for his life. My parents don’t wanna let him go either, even though he’s not allowed to live there because of subsidized housing. I asked him why you like that bro? And he says he’s angry because when he was little kids would pick on him and he hated that.

I come from a cultural environment in which drinking is the norm, for real, even amongst college educated people. Louisiana culture is crazy, but anyway, I can see myself in her if certain factors had been different. Having a father who is an alcoholic is awful. She sounds exactly like my dad. But my dad doesn't want help he doesn't think he has a problem. He removed all of us from his life he doesn't want anything to do with us. He's verbally and emotionally abusive. We haven't spoke in over a year, It's hard.
