Hi Coach! I like the simplicity of your system with "Spaces" instead of feets or meters. If you could change lbs into something universal like "weight points" it would be amazing for all around the world outside of the U.S. 😊
AD&D alongside darksun have a majority of the enhanced psionics, but there is a chart in original D&D for the 5 attack and defense modes, its even on DM screens from back then.
I had the Psion's Handbook for 2e. It was a little brown book. In fact, I think 5e was the ONLY edition that didn't have the Class, but it was an Unearthed Arcana playtest years ago. We were all kind of waiting for it, but it never happened.
I'm just gonna guess that one of the Psion subclasses must be the Auramancer, specialized in even stronger "read and project" thoughts, emotions and possibly even afflictions (diseases, curses etc.) based on the aura perception and manipulation. And if it's not there, I'm homebrewing it.
Read thoughts should reduce MD by X amount, as they can't out think you, because you can read their thoughts and read emotions should do extra damage (cause EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!).
Omg. I was so excited for the alpha I told my group before release we would be transitioning to DC20. Now the in-depth episodes start and I think my mind is melting….🎊 😂
I'm thinking a Psion with a dip into Monk. Someone who seeks perfection mind, body, and spirit. He travels the world w/out weapons but is never unarmed.
Btw this really isn't the spot for it but there is a broken interaction between warlords ability to heal everytime they spend stamina and the paladins ability to regain stamina every time they heal.
Question of the video response: I had the sickest idea of a psion2 rouge1 dip. He was take by the Coven of Blood, home of the silent assassins, from a young age he was stripped of the ability to speak like his comrades, forced to learn telepathy to communicate, and along the way psionic powers were developed. With a sealed voice, he makes not a sound as he hunts his victims from the darkness, infiltrating their minds, sundering their bodies, and before the end all they hear in their head was "the reaper comes."
I am currently taking a course in psychology so my immediate idea was a psychologist. I could damage people by telling them things they didn’t want to know. I could flavor many abilities as hypnosis or other psychological concepts.
Oh, this is embarrassing. I thought I was subscribed, apparently not? No wonder I have been missing a lot of videos! Adding AP to your Action to do additional things is pretty cool.
So, I made my own psionic class for D&D 5e which takes some things from the mystic, but removes a lot of the broken mechanics. First off, it’s a intelligence caster they are not supposed to be in melee. Second they set themselves apart from other full casters by using the spell scaling of 1/3rd casters, and not having any spell slot or cantrips instead they have spell points equal to their level plus their intelligence modifier and they have psionic attacks as a part of the class. This lets them cast lots of lower level spells, and spam reasonably powerful attacks without using spells. They do eventually get an ability at higher levels which lets them up cast beyond 4th level at significantly higher cost, but at that point the wizard has 7th level spells so it’s not to broken.
As a Jace Beleren fan, it's actually difficult to make a telepathic mage that feels good in D&D. Sorcerer dives down the Aberrant hole too deep and that it looks for Divination instead of Illusion hurts. Warlock is close thanks to the Invocations, but it misses out on some of the more fun higher tier Illusion spells. It's up to preference if Fey or GOO is better. Wizard has all the spells needed, but the dependency on a spellbook diverts from the character. While Jace's magic is more innate, the Wizard seems to be the best choice in D&D while playing the Kalashtar. So seeing DC20's Psion class might actually be the closest example when making a cosplay build, especially with the Talent options, so it will be very interesting to play. (In story, Jace's illusions become more real the closer he is to the target, so the telekinesis could be role played as a Phantasmal Jace interacting with the environment.)
I just wanna say, it is extremely interesting seeing the development of the MCDM RPG in parallel with the DC20 RPG, and be able to watch and listen how the different development phylosophies create different mechanics and how each make emphasis in different points in the common persuit of the same concept: an RPG that is mainly FUN. So far, they both seem awesome, and would probably end up playing some campaings with them or stealing from both systems heavily. I am just sad that they both insist in including a Psionic class, don't get me wrong, it is understandable, after all they are trying to correct some of the missing pieces of D&D and that is one I guess, and I know is a fantasy for some people, but for me it just drags me out of the magic world into X-men territory, some would say "just don't use it", but that is not a solution, I would love to just see some of it's mechanics in another class. Others would say "just homebrew it later in your own world" and yeah... but most "character builders" that are later embeded in the every day VTTs (it is easier to introduce a new player to a new sistem when they can just click buttons and level up instead of having to read half a Player's Handbook worth of rules) are hard to modify without breaking everything or require extremely careful work, and running a campaing is already enough work for the DM. In any case, I enjoy every one of the new videos, great work.
My 5e Psion design had a similar foundation: telepathy, telekinesis, precognition. This doesn’t sound bad, though I would have banked on it using Stamina instead of mana.
DC20 is looking great! My one wish from this system so far is that the magic would be broken up similar to Shadow of the Demon Lord - Themes rather than Schools of magic. Let me buy into Fire spells instead of Abjuration.
Your progression table is identical to the one im hombrewing after discovering that ten should be max level reachable to an enjoyable experience at the table
How are you planning on doing magic items for dc20? One thing I think is worth looking to for inspiration is the Crystal punk setting for 5e from plus 3 press. It's a cyberpunk inspired setting for dnd and it has a bunch of optional rules that i think are worth looking at. My favorites being the magic item rules and Last stands which serve to give players control over how their characters story ends by giving them one last epic turn before they die for good.
Magic item rules are interesting. Because it's a futuristic setting, magic items are everywhere so they needed rules so it wouldn't get out of hand. Tldr you can attune and unattune to magic items in about a minute. Your attunement slots increase as you level up. You have to attune to every magic item to use it, not just attunement ones. Attunement items take an extra slot and higher rarities take more slots as well. So you can't attune to a very rare item at level 1.
I'm curious if you ever considered making the Psion a martial character. Might be an entirely different beast from what you've designed here, but I think it would be cool for the Psion to be a class with spell like abilities that are fueled by stamina rather than mana that can be augmented with with maneuvers, and techniques.
Did the Psion get cut from the product? Because I don't see it listed as a class on the kickstarter, nor is it mentioned in the alpha pdf. It's a shame to lose such a cool class concept.
Hey I just got word on this. It "Will be in the DC20 Magazine! Not in the Core" and "it's still a class, but not in the core book, it will only be available on the DC20 magazine from Patreon, to be released on July 1st. the lowest tier subscription is enough for the magazine"
The flexibility seems cool, though it seems like a lot of "options" are just be a worse damage dealer. To do something unique you're probably stuck just reducing defenses or knocking prone your entire character. Monsters without good physical saves just aren't that common
So... I'm thinking Scarlet Witch. Not Multiverse of Madness Wanda or Wandaverse Wanda (although I would love to fly eventually), but Avengers AOU Wanda and maybe Civil War Wanda. Throw people around, get in their heads, play on their fears and disable them.
This seems like a really cool class. I backed the kickstarter. Which document has the details for the psion? I don’t see it in the core rules beta 0.8. Thank you in advance.
Is there a tldr for this system? The only video I saw was 5+ hours long. I just saw you’re charging $15 for an alpha release, color me cheap but from what I’m hearing from this video is that you basically have a 5e clone with PF2e elements stacked on top of it. And if your multiclass option is just grabbing class features from other classes that seems a bit PF2(ish) as well. So what’s new about this system?
Action Points without the extra complexity of Reactions from Pathfinder. The diceless damage, where your to-hit roll really matters. The removal of saving throws preventing damage from spells (the reason why I hated Vicious Mockery). The out-of-the-box approach to class design. Multi-classing without losing progress in your main class...
The fantasy name would be sorcerer imo, to ensorcell is to enchant and bewitch the mind. While we are here, there is no fantasy surrounding the name fighter, the fighter fantasy is a knight
What do you THINK about the Psion?! (get it? Think??)

I’m from the U.S. and believe the metric system is superior. 😊
@@alderaancrumbs6260 I think that it would be first U.S. orgin TTRPG with metric system 😁
The psion was in D&D back in 3.5E. There was a whole book about it. The Psionics Handbook. They weren’t in any other edition of D&D that I’m aware of.
AD&D alongside darksun have a majority of the enhanced psionics, but there is a chart in original D&D for the 5 attack and defense modes, its even on DM screens from back then.
Psion was in 4th edition as well, and Pathfinder has variations of them.
4th edition also have the player handbook n°3 about Psion's (or number 4)
AD&D 2e had an optional Psionicst class.
I had the Psion's Handbook for 2e. It was a little brown book.
In fact, I think 5e was the ONLY edition that didn't have the Class, but it was an Unearthed Arcana playtest years ago.

BTW your second multiclass is basically Kilgrave, love it.
I check every RPG video on psionics! keep up the good work.
can a non-psion perceive psionics, if so, at what sensory range? likewise, can a psion do the same but better?
I have a complete system also, 17 sciences and over 100 talents. I appreciate you, cheers.
How about the power to kill a yak
From 200 yards away
With mind-bullets!
That's telekinesis, Kyle
How about the power
To move you
The number of times I quote this part of the song is not enough.
The multi-classing potential of DC20 has got me all kinds of excited
Read thoughts should reduce MD by X amount, as they can't out think you, because you can read their thoughts and read emotions should do extra damage (cause EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!).
OH HOW IVE LONGED FOR THIS EPISODE!!!
Omg. I was so excited for the alpha I told my group before release we would be transitioning to DC20. Now the in-depth episodes start and I think my mind is melting….🎊 😂
Ooooooh, the wheels are already turning on my first Psion build! Definitely planning to spice her up with some might-empowered chaos as she levels up!
Fantastic overview, Coach! SO HYPE for this class! 🧠💜
I still can't wait for Shapeshifter, but im hyped for Psion now!
A Fighter with "the Not Force" would be an excellent Mage Slayer. Preventing concentration spells is a huge advantage

i loved the psion in 3.5 this is very neat
Small correction but pf2e has this. It's the psychic
I am currently taking a course in psychology so my immediate idea was a psychologist. I could damage people by telling them things they didn’t want to know. I could flavor many abilities as hypnosis or other psychological concepts.
Psion - rogue waves hand slowly in front of guard "You don't see me"
Sweet, I can finally play a Jimmy Neutron character
Oh, this is embarrassing. I thought I was subscribed, apparently not?
No wonder I have been missing a lot of videos!
Adding AP to your Action to do additional things is pretty cool.
I am so glad this game has psion, in the base game no less!
Love the prion, they are great to flavor casters differently.
I'm currently running Sw5e primarily, but the Psion is inspiring me to run a DC20 game in a Star Wars setting.

Kenshi has always been one of my favorite underused character in MK

Seems cool, I can’t seem to shake the feeling that this class could just be a spell list. That said I’m excited as hell for DC20
I think you should be able to spend either Mana or Action points to affect really big creatures?

Bard multiclssing into a Psion sould be considered a crime
Very excited for the DC20 psion. Will this be one of the classes in DC20 RPG?
Nice

The video I linked is his general full game breakdown in rapid fire form
I think "psion" sounds too scifi for a fantasy game. Maybe call it "mind mage" or "psychic".
It’s the first time I’ve ever gotten feedback like that! I’m gonna make a note of that right now!
The fantasy name would be sorcerer imo, to ensorcell is to enchant and bewitch the mind. While we are here, there is no fantasy surrounding the name fighter, the fighter fantasy is a knight
you sound like an awesome dev looking for new dragonmasters to work with if you tag me i would love to work with you...?dm i am
First time first
You did it! You must have sensed it! (like a Psion, get it? lol)

Why would a world with magic need psionics? Simple answer, it doesn't
it's cool, that's why we need it.
