Yes, whenever you're doing something differently than you usually do, it pays to think it through regarding safety. I usually do, but sometimes I can still miss things. And, thank you.
There are a lot of choices. An EROD is nice, because it comes with the ECM set up and ready to go. If you want an automatic, they offer a matched system that will have the correct controls and calibration for that as well. There are installation challenges for any alternate engine. The choices are often driven by your budget and time available to work it. I've seen a number of installations with a 5.3 LS and they seem to turn out well. One challenge is planning the mounts. There is a wide variety of aftermarket adapter plates. Most, if not all of them cannot locate the engine in the same exact spot as stock. It will be either slightly forward or slightly rearward and may also be slightly higher than stock. It will take a little patience to decide the right position so that everything clears and sets in the engine compartment correctly.
Be careful for sure! Unknown dangers are always there..... Nicely organized!

Glad you didn’t hurt badly Dan.
Thanks, it really was a close one. We need to thank the Lord for us making it through the close ones.

Will a E-ROD LS3 engine fit just right in a 1988 IROC Z? Or what engine would you recommend?
