Considering how fast the game has become, Shaq would get exhausted before the 3rd quarter. He’d have to drop serious weight and work on his stamina if he’d like to keep up with modern basketball.
@@SPZ909 This is a garbage take buddy, Shaq played 38-40 minutes a game in his prime and mind you he averaged 40 minutes a game in his MVP season playing 79 games. He was the Diesel and original Superman for a reason. Lakers at that time also LOVE to slow the pace. A game centered around Shaq would be slow as hell cause he's constantly drawing fouls and making good percentage shots that allow the Lakers to set their half court defense. Guys today can barely play back to back games or play 60+ games, let alone take the physical beating Shaq had to endure. This man took some of the HARDEST fouls of all time, played from October til June in 3 straight seasons, all while winning 3 straight FINALS mvp. Get out of here lmaooooooo
If Shaq would've stayed in shape, practiced his free throws more...him and Kobe would've won more championships for sure. And he would've gone down as the greatest ever.
Nice upload. Figured I’d ask if you can find Kobe triple double vs Charlotte 2/16/01 25,10,10? His second one, no highlight of the game on RUclips. As usual thanks bro! Keep up the grind. Your channels on the way to big numbers bro 💯🔥
Good point, especially ‘03. Kinda gets lost amidst kobe and shaq’s 8 years together. Arguably their best as a duo in terms of production, combined 57.5 ppg.
domcarter yea 03 was there best year I believe also. It’s just crazy how that front office never tried to get younger and add more athletic players around those two like the mavs, kings and spurs were doing at that time. It also would have been better for shaq to extend his prime while Kobe became the number 1 option
As it is, they probably win in '03 if Horry's 3 doesn't rim out in game 5 vs the Spurs and perhaps in '04 if Malone wasn't injured before the finals(they were 32-8 with him.) Interestingly, the Lakers traded away the talent and athleticism they did have around Shaq and Kobe by ditching Jones, Campbell and Van Exel for little in return all in '98-'99 so they never had as much overall talent as the Blazers and Kings. They won with a cast of old, defensive minded players who weren't offensive threats. The 2000 team didn't even have perimeter shooting around Shaq and Kobe(5th worst 3 point shooting team.) The problem in '03 was Shaq delaying his surgery since the Lakers started 3-9 without him and Shaq wasn't immediately in shape to carry the offense as he had in the past so Phil had Kobe do it and he had his 40 point streak, but by this time in March, Shaq was 100% so Phil ran the offense through him again. That created a conflict since both guys had now been alphas and neither wanted to defer. Also, in '04 Payton never fit in the triangle and was rapidly declining much like Glen Rice in '00 so the offense looked better with Fisher.
I think the 2nd half of the '01 season and playoffs was by far the best they played as a duo and the best any duo has played. Kobe figured it out after the Lakers went 11-3 without him and returned to become the facilitator, but still managed over 29/7/6 in the playoffs in the flow of the offense while keeping his defensive effort close to 2000. Kobe became stronger and more skilled by 2003 without losing athleticism, but the '01 playoffs was probably the most well-rounded he was. At the same time, Shaq was back in peak 2000 form and averaged over 30/15/3 in the playoffs.
@@mattray9904 No perimeter scorers in 2000 bruh?? Does Kobe Glen Rice Fox Horry & Fisher & B Shaw ring a bell?? Yea I loved EJ Nick the Quick & Elden wish they would've kept them because they with the other core from that team 4Peat for sure & they are easily the most talented team like in 1998 or 2000
@@kaizoku8087 maybe you’re right but what I’m seeing isn’t a gather step but him either shifting both feet after a pump fake before going up or him taking steps without dribbling.
@@jofieji5312 As soon as you have the ball in your hands you can take to steps without dribbling on a shot attempt. That is the gather step. That is why layups are legal
Amazing upload! 12 dunks indeed but for some reason official stats for this game says 11. Shaq's highest dunking games as a Laker: 3/6/00 at LAC - 11 3/19/02 at DAL - 11 3/21/03 vs BOS -11 3/26/03 at HOU -10 Maybe you can get your hands on the Mavs game too? I assume you only do Shaq's Laker games? 4/6/93 PHI at ORL - Shaq had 13 dunks in that game, I have been trying to find it but so far no luck. Maybe you could get it somehow?
One thing that’s not highlighted more is his hands. Any pass shaq will gobble it up and slams it. He’ll thrive more in todays game since there’s more space and guys are playing smaller now.
These days every rare Shaq game is my favorite cuz is new to me ,especially some rare Orlando games or his first 4 Lakers years where he was athletically in his prime, this game is great but here he was at his fattest from his prime ,still fun to watch players fall and strugglle with him, great upload
Rad 06-22 i appreciate it, and youre on point with the shaq weight thing lol, toe injury heading into 02-03 really put some pounds on him. This could be considered the tail end of prime Shaq, amazing he was still able to average 28 after gaining all that weight. Its crazy noticeable too. From 2000-03 you can tell he gained each year.
If shaq and the lakers would of won 4 straight and shaq won 4 straight finals mvp then that'd be the best 4 year stretch from anyone. Jordan never did that. In fact only shaq and Jordan won 3 straight finals mvps.
Jordan lost oportunity for the fourth FMVP and fourth ring in a row in 98/99 season because of Bulls break up! I belive Bulls would go 8 in the row if he didnt retired, so Shaq 4 would be MJ half ( we imagine all that) !😅
@@mirospajic9929 thats 2 if's. I agree jordan would of won at least 2 more rings if he didn't retire twice. The teams the lakers beat in the playoffs in 00, 01, 02 were better than both of Jordan's 3peats bulls. Regardless shaq and Jordan's prime was better than anyone else over a 3 year period.
Look at lannis today, doing absolutely everything he wants, bullying his way to the basket everytime he wants. Who's there to stop him with all these smallball teams, and these stupid rules that prevent any Real defense. Now, just imagine Shaq with his T-Rex like power
Rare indeed. wow.
This is what Shaq would do to all small ball lineups today. Look at the lineup the Celtics tried running.
But he'd still lose because 3 is bigger than 2 😭

Career high free throw season. He was pretty heavy this season.
This was one of my favorite shaq games im glad someone finally uploaded it
Thanks for this. I'm a huge Lakers fan but I was only 13 at the time and lived in South Dakota. So this is the first I've heard of this.
No problem man 👌
48 points on 24 FGs. Insane
For me, the best low post player is Shaq. Size, Strength, Footwork, Hookshot, 1 hander
I don’t know of a dynamic duo where it so easily goes either way, “Kobe and Shaq” “shaq and Kobe” just saying…. Sounds good either way lol

Shaq's free throws are pure comedy
Those last two years he had in LA were great but overlooked bcuz they dnt win the title neither year and the injuries that occurred

He travels so much. Doesn’t dribble but shifts both feet so he can get power to jump or dislodge the defender.
