This scene is nothing short of classic. Clouseau at his bumbling best leaving destruction in his path. Oblivious to everything and indestructible. Amazing. Poor Cato and Poor Dreyfus
Oh how I love Peter Sellers and his wonderful character Inspector Clousseau. I never tire of watching it and it always makes me cry with laughter. Comic Genius
Comic Genius but with a darker side. Found out recently that he once whipped his 5 year old son for doing something to his beloved Bentley. Then threw all his toys away bar one which was kept high up so his son could see it but not play with it. He was reported to be a very difficult person to work with. Comic Genius yes but nasty piece of work behind closed doors.
My father absolutely loved these movies, we'd watch them a lot as kids, but to watch as an adult now, OMG. So much funnier, that don't make 'em like they used to. The fact that he floats over to the Notre Dame is priceless. 🤣🤣
I spoke to a video producer recently who said they use some of the music from these films to immediately connect with those of us who loved them when were younger. Very clever…
They just can't make them like this anymore, pure fun and hilarity. I wonder how they even got through each scene without completely losing it, It must have taken a long time to make the whole movie. Great stuff, thanks for posting. "Does ur dog bite?" was the very best too.
Well, it's a hard call........but I think that "the Hunchback" may be Clouseau's finest disguise ever! He really made a big splash with that one, and after ascending to literally dizzying heights.
From my favorite Pink Panther movie! Remember seeing this in the theater when it came out at six years old. The whole theater was cracking up during the movie! 👍
"Fooled you, didn't I?" has become an inside joke with my brother. Whenever we play video or board games and trick our opponents we say that in Clouseau's voice.
Pure genius! What could possibly be MORE useful for undercover detective work than a Quasimodo costume, complete with an inflatable "heump"? No one will notice that! 😄😄🤣 Only Clouseau could come up with such a brilliant means of disguising his true identity.
Of all the ways the writers could have come up with a botched assassination scene, it was so inspired to set it up as a hunchback scene, then load it with comic elements derived from the classic. Dreyfuss is so frantic and determined in this scene, plunging headlong into self destruction. Of course, Lom manages to convey that sense of maniacal obsession in all of his scenes, as he masterly loses control.
Oh my. I like that Clouseau said: "Oh! The bells! The bells! They deafened me." Hilarious!!! Also, I like the part about how he floats up through the window. It was funny also.
that reasoning makes a lot of sence but thanks to that i got a copy of Assassins Creed Unity for free so cheers Clouseau your a prince among men and then some :)

They took some
gags, from the 3 stooges
I saw this in the theater in 1976 and it was fantastic! The audience, and myself, laughed almost the entire movie.
Me too pirate
Me too. I can't remember another movie that I went to, were there was so much laughter.
wow
me too.. way well worth the movie ticket. i wish they still made movies just like this..
I dont think there will be a comedian and a great impersonater like Sellers hes a true legend

A corpse maybe, but that has yet to be verified.

And the Quasimodo disguise kit, was so he could 'blend in'...
Incredible how it's destroyed by the fire now, after almost a millennium
It's so cool to hear because my father and I did the same thing

Hahaha The fact that he stays in the hunchback character when he answers the phone at 1:39 and talks jibberish is freaking gold.
yes and also in the moment when he realized that he floated away at 03:28 hahahaha
Oh come on Cato.... Don't interrupt him while he is on the pheune...
What a legend
legend is for demonics i now know who these people is now )
“Can’t you see that I’m the pheune?”

Cato is the ideal servant. Dutiful and dedicated at all times.

It may indeed have been! That man spreads chaos wherever he goes.

"The bells, the bells". This is amazing
"If you think this is fantastic, wait until you see the full effect with the himp!"
They don't make 'em like this these days. Today's comedy writers need a refresher course.

I see what you did there.
you mean the "himp"..

Yes, heump. That is what I have been saying, you fool.
Steve Martin doesn't even compare.
Michael Rohrkasse so why compare them??
why? Because the Jerk asked for it, maybe. Or, just for fun. Maybe because, oh, je ne sais quoisimodo, that's why.
Traolach Planes, Trains and Automobiles :D
Steve Martin was horrible in that movie... he should be embarrassed...
Steve who?...🤔
I love watching this scene, I’m in my late 60’s and dread my back going Quasimodo on me 😊
The music at the beginning is wonderful :D
0:48 immediately goes into character on Cato's entrance
"Oh, the bells! The bells! They deafen me!"
*hops over to the phone and picks it up*
"Boogawagagagawoohgagagagoogoowagagaga!"

Poor Dreyfus. Even though he's not trying, Clouseau always manages to torment him.
I saw this as a kid...i laughed so hard I fell off the couch.
This movie has everything!
3:46 I laughed so hard I couldn't catch my breath.
I wonder if Cato was genuinely fooled, or if he was just humoring him.
