As someone who grew up with Jason Griffith as Sonic, I can see why people think that he is the ideal Sonic. That said, I don't understand the hate for Roger Craig Smith. He is a very close second in my opinion, with the change in voice actors admittedly fitting given the simultaneous shift in art style. Modern Sonic looks older than his previous incarnations, it's only fitting that he sounds older. Also, as others have stated, the scripts are terrible compared to ones from previous games and shows. Of course every voice actor that replaces another - especially as such an iconic character - is initially looked down upon by fans, but it's not like the change in voice was a particularly significant one (at least not as significant as the one that occured when Jason Griffith came around). Anyway, I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the response on the part of the fanbase as a whole was just weird, idk...

JakeDuhCreeper I just think Roger gets bad scripts at times. He does a great job with his acting, but I also feel he was sort of miscast. I think Josh Keaton would've fit the character better.

Roger has the same problem most actors have when taking on a beloved character. They love the previous choice (Jason Griffith/Ryan Drummond), so they despise the replacement because they "stole" the character from the previous actor, so they have to be bad. He's actually a really good choice for Sonic, and he's great in the Sonic Boom show.

Something that I noticed about the main characters is that their new voice actors make them sound older compared to their previous actors, so I thought of it as a sort of change of age in relation to the fandom, which to me was interesting.
Tails has alot of female voice actors becuase he's a child
It’s common in animation to have a woman voice a little boy due to women having higher pitched voices. Tails is 8 so I’m not surprised they went that approach

Idc what anyone says. Though Jason has the most fans out there, Ryan was the starting point for the 3d series. Jason took the ground when you can say Sonic entered his teen years, Roger can be seen as Sonic entering his late teens. That's how I view it, I really like all the voices and people seem to discredit Roger a lot mainly because of his script. Even so, everyone complaining how "the newer games have childish stories and Sonic makes child jokes" which can be blamed on the writers. But....
Sonic was always meant for children (not to offend those older who still play the games). In the end, Sonic has always had the personality of a cartoon character. He's a snarky cocky hedgehog who fights a fat doctor that tries to take over the world with the name "Dr. Eggman". In what way is that NOT seen as childish? If I had to give my take, I honestly enjoyed Unleashes' (or Black Knight's) portrayal of Sonic the most out of all the games. It was just right even if the story was a bit over-the-top.
People complaining about the Sonic we have now are complaining about something that has been Sonic's character since 1991. The script CAN be blamed on the new writers since they even stated that they know fuck all of Sonic and just saw some cutscenes online to get a basic idea of his character. But even so, Roger doesn't write his lines, he just voices them.
Even if I want Jason as Shadow back..
Jaleel White is the definitive classic Sonic but I think Martin did a good job as well, the Sonic OVA voice cast in general sounds like they're going for a cheesier take on the characters, if Sonic was made in the 50s or something this is kind of how I'd imagine them to sound.

I wish they would’ve gotten a kid to play Classic Tails instead because Kate’s Classic Tails was too high-pitched and feminine. On top of that, they actually did that in Japan instead of having Ryo Hirohashi (I think that’s how you pronounce it) aka Tails’s Japanese voice actress voice him too, but instead they decided to be cheap and reuse actors.

I know this is an old video, but I love how Sonic's voice slowly gets deeper over time. Lol too often you find companies trying to emulate the original and stick with it and it gets old(tails' voice pitch fluctuation as an example. In the middle there they the voice actor went back to older higher pitch, and Amy does change all that much), I like that fact that it feels like he actually ages. Knuckles voice does this as well and I think it's a nice touch.
