Nice review. Really enjoyed it. Looking forward to SUPERMAN: TAS. And thanks for the love to the Maestro, Dwayne McDuffie. He made sure we had a voice. Well done.
Thats kind of a ridiculous statement tho... Like if someone reveals all the secrets & mysterious aspects via the spoilers & u plan to watch it..well if someone plans to watch they shouldnt watch these videos but still that statement is mediocre at best shallow at medium & brainless at worst
@@sakkoyaba4482The idea behind the statement is that spoilers should not change your desire to watch the show, if anything it should make you want to watch it more. If the spoilers completely ruin the show for you, then that means the characters themselves are not enjoyable enough to keep attention and therefore not greatly written.
@@shanajeangedeon9060yeah and that’s wrong: let me give you an example, with this show’s version of hawk woman, if you tell someone she’s a deeper character then her typical anger or indifference shows, that might entice someone to watch and enjoy her character, if I say she’s a double betrayer who can’t decide wether she’s a Leaguer or Thanagerian first and kept flip flopping her ideals, most people would hate her, even if I took the time to explain the nuance, because she betrayed all of humanity and her lover for her people who abandoned her on earth to begin with, the show this RUclipsr is reviewing alone literally disproves her own stupid ideas
Stories can still be good even if they're spoiled, but you as an individual reader have been deprived of the only opportunity to read it unspoiled if you do get spoiled. Like, tons of stories that feature prominent twists absolutely hold up even if you're spoiled. But reading a story blind and reading a story spoiled are fundamentally different experiences, and the former you can only ever do once. I've read or seen older stories after having them spoiled, and I often walk away thinking "this was still great. But I can't help but imagine how incredible the experience of it being a surprise would be."
I've heard good things about this series, but I was never interested in most of the properties to give it a try. Plus I heard good things about YJ, and was VERY disappiunted past season 1.
it's fun and def different from yj! it's much more episodic and character-based than focused on twists and typical comic arcs (admittedly im not huge on yj because of that).
@@screamingwhales4031 Oh, not really a fan of episodic styles. I prefer long-running stories--but I guess that can be hard with different properties like TJL.
I do not know if you know this, but the actor that does the voice for the Flash is actually Michael Rosenbaum the actor who played Lex Luthor in Smallville.
Have you watched Justice League vs Fatal Five? It’s the movie set in this universe Taking place shortly after the series concluded. It doesn’t feel like an ending to the show (since the universe continues on into Batman Beyond), but it’s a neat bonus adventure with the team. It’s nice to see J’onn’s adopted niece join the league and Wonder Woman finally carrying her sword and shield. ❤❤❤
I would also recommend reading Justice League infinity, which is the comic continuation of the Justice League Unlimited show. They expand on the multiverse in this story, which is something I loved when they visited the Justice Lords and Justice Guild
1:25:00 oh gosh, I want to say something so badly, but if you do end up reading the Justice League Beyond comics (the Justice League about 30 years into the future after the show takes place), you'll see who Diana ends up with and it's so unexpected but also makes 1000% sense

This was great! I'm so glad you covered this because these shows were one of the best parts of my childhood. Also the Mars is France bit was so funny 🤣Keep up the great work!
So one little fact I know about the episode The Man Who Has Everything is that there's a character missing from the episode: Robin was part of the original comic and was accompanying Batman and Wonder Woman. Specifically Jason Todd's Robin. In fact, poor Jason was the one who pulled off the Black Mercy iirc, and thus was directly in front of a grieving Kryptonian when he became fully cognizant of what was happening. Of course with the fact that Robin never really showed up in either JL cartoons, and Jason wasn't part of the Batman cartoon (they gave his personality and role to Tim Drake), Jason was not part of the episode. Also it's canon that Jason's favorite hero is Wonder Woman. I wonder why. (Really, of all the Batkids, the only one who we don't know the favorite of is Cass, and even then it's heavily implied to be her dad, though Steph's is absolutely hilarious. For my source on this: Wayne Family Adventures episode 6. Really recommend.)
Im very glad you enjoy the show! it’s one of my favorite interpretations of the DCU. Although I have my issues with it as well. Like you mentioned Diana does get angry and furious in the show but there’s a little too much of that and doesn’t get into her compassionate and kind nature that she has in her character. Also, this is just an add onto Superman’s character but There’s a moment where Superman remembers the black mercy, talking about it to Batman. How it showed him the life he always wanted and how he kept having dreams about that life. Clark talks about his real life felt like a lie, but realized that it can be more, that he can have a family which he did eventually have! Marrying Lois and having Jon with her, making that change in his life so that he wouldn’t feel so alone anymore.
I loved this series when I was a kid! And yes, you should give the original Batman series that is a prequel to Justice League a watch. It's really good!
"Hereafter" is one of my favorite stories from JL Season 2. Watching Diana threaten to punch a hole in Toyman's head, and being stopped by Flash, then in part 2, "You're insane!" "Yes, but that doesn't mean I'm not good company."
15:55 Yes, I did notice that WW's lasso was ONLY USED once to make the truth known in the episode "The Balance" (I hope I remember it right). However, in the 3-part season 1 ender "The Savage Time", I actually thought that WW used it on one of the Nazis when she lassoed him and even asked him with a firm tone of voice: "Where is Ernest?!" I do wonder why the JLU writers only incorporated this crucial element much later in the series?
1:11:19 oh how i miss when waller had a point and was reasonable if moral flexable. at this rate in the comics i wouldn't be surprised if she didnt team up with darkside.
Yeah Same, WAY too many writers just make her generic “evil government” lady because that’s easiest. I feel she’s at her best when she’s actually, ACTUALLY morally grey, and more utilitarian/coldly practical. As the series shown multiple times she does have clear and understandable reasons for why Cadmus is doing all this stuff against the league that isn’t simply “they don’t belong to us so we must destroy it”
@@Autistic_Changeling Yeah, that was such a weird thing at the time. I think only Bane was one of if not the only character that managed to bypass the embargo because he wasn't in the plans for the 3rd Batman movie of The Dark Knight trilogy, but he showed up before in The Batman 2004.
Loved the whole (Cadmus Arc) in JLU. It brought the previous shows practically full circle. Last 13 JLU episodes was go all out & have fun aswel ended it all with a bang.
Ive always said the DCAU was the perfect blue prints for live action films. Perfect balance, not taken so seriously as the DCEU, or Snyderverse, however you refer it as.
Justice league and Justice league unlimited and the entire Dcau were among the best series that showed us heroes who didn’t always win fights with their fists we had many emotional moments from Grundy death to hawk girls betrayal and more epilogue being the final piece ace death and honestly I’m glad more people are talking about these gems Rip Kevin conroy and many other actors who have passed away throught the years these people really brought these heroes to life
Minor nitpick, but Superman is not WEAK to magic. He’s simply not invulnerable against it like he is against almost anything else. Kryptonite is his real weakness (almost all forms of it). Him being vulnerable to magic is us being vulnerable to a punch. It’s not a weakness per se.
This series did good to elevate Hawkgirl in the DC animated universe. Otherwise Wonder Woman was the only female in the league. Shayera's betrayal absolutely shocked the fans.
Are you reading current DC comics? Because that's a wild thing to say. We're about to get Ram V's New Gods after his legendary Tec run, the Absolute universe hitting 2 for 2 so far with Batman and Wonder Woman, Tini Howard stopped writing Harley Quinn and Catwoman finally, Justice League Unlimited with just about everyone in DC on the roster, the Vertigo imprint has been revived, Si Spurrier's Flash and Hellblazer are top tier etc. DC Comics are cooking right now, baby mode DCAU is not superior.
35:12 the way this man + Disney made me think old and/or bald people were out to get me, was unreal!! 😭😂 Had me side eyeing my bald uncle for so long 😒🤣
Aww, no Patriot Act? Bummer, cuz that one's my all-time fave. I'm the bitch who always bets on a dark horse in any and every media I consume, whether or not I originally intend to. Hell, my favorite of all the Justice League founders is J'onn mainly because I never knew the guy beforehand like I did the others, so an entire episode based around the League's least-known heroes is practically tailor-made for someone like me.
41:13 _oh god oh fuck_ I haven’t actually watched this show but this bit made me tear up. JL and JLU have been on my watchlist for a while but this video may get me to finally watch them.
Wonder Woman has the most contested paternity I've seen in media. Some versions of her she's a daughter a Ares, others Zeus and in JLU she's a daughter of Hades. Add to that the Greek influence in her series, broader cannon is basically Mamma Mia
DianaxBruce ❤❤❤, HuntressxQuestion, BrainiacxSupergirl, there's HawkgirlxGL & GArrowXCanery too. The last 2 arnt personally my fav but they are executed well for their trope. I just appreciate how mature everything is handled, even w all the drama
It's cute flirting and good chemistry. Plus Diana is a really refreshing character to be romantically interested in Bruce. She offsets his Character really well n is not overbearing abt it ❤❤❤❤❤.
@@ohw5306 I'm sorry, but I don't see the chemistry. Never understood why they were paired up. Always seemed like it was a ship made to make Batman look cooler, at the expense of Diana (and considering how you cited how she benefits HIM as a positive, my opinion of this ship just sank even more...)
You are going to love this. There was a spin-off series of Justice league unlimited which included a 6 part episode where Batman goes insane because it is revealed that a gang wanted his parents dead. It takes both Barbara and Wonder Woman getting critical injured and with Wonder Woman in a hospital not expecting to survive the night( in the fight she was deal with the first signs of pendicodus.). It explodes. That’s enough to push Batman to confess his feelings and Wonder Woman does survive and they have 2 daughters
OMG, yesss! I really enjoyed this video. Hearing your commentary was fab-u-lous! I rewatched JL and JLU several months ago and omg this show still holds up and I swear I love it now as an adult even more than when I was a kid. This doesn't happen often for me and tv shows. Even Teen Titans (2003) fell off for me after S4 to the point I just couldn't finish it. But both JL shows were awesome across all 5 seasons. I don't think I've noticed much on the topic of faith in kid's shows, but you're right, I do think the Grundy, WW, and Hawkgirl vs Ikthultu episode was rather nuanced. WW and Hawkgirl talking honestly but rather respectfully about their differing views was nice. And I love how Hawkgirl speaks comforting words to Grundy before he dies, even if she doesn't believe in the notion of a soul. The only things that I found annoying are Hades being portrayed as straight up evil, and that witch who yo-yos between fawning over Gorilla Grodd and Lex Luthor. Like, I dunno, but it was a bit weird? And oof, you right! Shayera had the worst time of it. She was in a lose-lose situation but she really does perservere through it. And damn, you right about her not getting enough recognition the way Zuko does! She could have died a villain or wallowed for the rest of her days, but she didn't! She decided to truly embrace the heroism she always wished to embody.
I love in "The Man Who Has Everything" that it's shows that while Clark is in love with Lois, he's also still in love with Lana Lang. Which I like as a Clana shipper!
Batman TAS, Superman TAS, the Justice League cartoons, and Young Justice were all amazing. What DC recently did to these universes in a trio of movies is horrible and has guaranteed I will never buy another one of their movies again.
I am proud to admit that I have seen every single series in the DCASU, and still to this day in my 20s, I have never been disappointed with any of them. If there are some that I like more than others, but all of them have been entertaining and definitely re-watchable. But I gotta admit, I have watched the ever loving heck out of JL and JLU. Well that and Batman beyond. The fact that the writing still holds up so well for the show really amazes me. And just how the show has a little bit of everything for every age, from kid to an adult. Aspects of all types such as humor, moral views, even political stuff. I guarantee you people would still be amazed at some of the stuff that you find in this show are in a kids cartoon, and that’s because the writers didn’t treat their audience like idiots. Not like what most cartoon show makers are doing lately, with the whole “the show was not made for you“ or “it’s just a kid show, it doesn’t have to be good”. This show is one of my go to prime examples of why kids deserve good stories in their cartoons. My dad showed me this cartoon when I was five years old , he said I used to do a little dance every time the theme song would play. It’s honestly been a huge part of my childhood. Sorry, that was a long but I probably love to show as much as you do.
@@BaithNa Maybe not, honest mistake. Though there is such a thing as not waisting a whole comment just to correct someone on an abbreviation for what, a little “ I know better than you”? Or whatever this was
Also, as someone who was also first introduced to the DCAU through JL, going back and watching Superman TAS was so worth it. The Cadmus arc especially becomes so much better (which is impressive!) knowing everything Superman went through with Hamilton--though after watching I did become a bit sad that Lois only makes a few cameos. Shayera and her interacting once would have been *mwah*

“Stuff of Legends” was one of my “I wasn’t expecting to bawl my eyes out” episodes
Jlu is Iconic and one of my fav shows of all time but generally I love every dc animated even some of the new 52 animated movies are some of my favorites of all time and generally when I watch reactions to those movies other ppl enjoy them too but I know some ppl hate them
Young justice is also a good show. It deals with a lot of mental health issues including ptsd and depression.
JL, JLU, and Young Justice was my childhood! I remember owning the episodes on how they came to be with the arrival of Martian Manhunter! Greatest thing I've seen in a long time!
The core members (the founders) are like siblings/family, with Flash being the little brother. I agree, Flash is the best, he's a sweetheart, and he's funny, and God help anyone if they try to get rid of this precious babber!
we were so well fed having JLA/JLU and teen titans and X-Men evolution and young justice and static shock.... i could go on
Nice review. Really enjoyed it. Looking forward to SUPERMAN: TAS.
And thanks for the love to the Maestro, Dwayne McDuffie. He made sure we had a voice.
Well done.
“If spoilers can ruin a story, was it ever even good to begin with?”
THANK YOU! I’ve been saying that for years.
Thats kind of a ridiculous statement tho... Like if someone reveals all the secrets & mysterious aspects via the spoilers & u plan to watch it..well if someone plans to watch they shouldnt watch these videos but still that statement is mediocre at best shallow at medium & brainless at worst
@@sakkoyaba4482 Thank YOU!
They only gave her the sword and shield because that's become her thing in recent years. Damn cross-media synergy.
This video was surprisingly entertaining, and your extremely intelligent and witty. Pls do make more content like this, I couldn't stop watching because I love justice league and I just adore how charismatic you are
Thomas, what were the research notes you used for Dwayne McDuffie? They're not in the video description yet and I'd love to learn more about this man's thoughts as a writer.
“shayera stands”SO TRUEEEE
X-Men - xmen evolution & Xmen 97'
Justice league- JLU- Young Justice
Both lines of series are. Just PERFECTION...outside of these shows idk how you can even pick between the two kn natural media im attached to everrybody ..but i also suffer the most from fatigue when its shitty work
The DCAU will forever be my favorite cartoon series.
This was great! I'm so glad you covered this because these shows were one of the best parts of my childhood. Also the Mars is France bit was so funny 🤣Keep up the great work!
Batman singing "Am I Blue" is not only a fav and a best part of the ep....it hits so, so different...
To Bad DCAU did not give JL,a 3 seasons and a 4 seasons for JLU.
the whole justice league and justice league unlimited universe is just *chefs kiss*
Humanite's duck doll-- I wonder if that is a parody or reference to Howard the duck?
I still watch it to this day. Timeless classic!
16:30 "Magic lasso!" A clear reference to "Super Friends" 🙂
Wayne Family Adventures isn't canon to anything except itself
@@BaithNa I thought it was? Since it has the DC logo on the title page.
22:54 The best Flash!
Thank you....thank you Unicorn for doing this video!!
As the series shown multiple times she does have clear and understandable reasons for why Cadmus is doing all this stuff against the league that isn’t simply “they don’t belong to us so we must destroy it”
23:32 Shady Doorags has a great video on this episode!
GREAT JOB SUMMARIZING SO MUCH!
I still can't believe they didn't let other heroes like Batgirl appeared.
Yeah, the Bat-Embargo was a dumb idea. It was created by an idiot that couldn't handle the idea that ten year olds are smarter than him.
No cause it’s kinda annoying that not even a single member of the bat family showed up
Nightwing had a cameo in JLU episode "Grudge Match"
Tim Drake showed up at Superman's furneral with Alfred.
Loved the whole (Cadmus Arc) in JLU. It brought the previous shows practically full circle. Last 13 JLU episodes was go all out & have fun aswel ended it all with a bang.
shayera and diana deserve more screen time together!!!! underrated babes
JGA episode: GL's weeping at the end of part 2, plus the posthumous memoriam to Gardner Fox, made it so emotional.
Ive always said the DCAU was the perfect blue prints for live action films. Perfect balance, not taken so seriously as the DCEU, or Snyderverse, however you refer it as.
Justice league and Justice league unlimited and the entire Dcau were among the best series that showed us heroes who didn’t always win fights with their fists we had many emotional moments from Grundy death to hawk girls betrayal and more epilogue being the final piece ace death and honestly I’m glad more people are talking about these gems Rip Kevin conroy and many other actors who have passed away throught the years these people really brought these heroes to life
UGHHHHH I needed this video. I feel so validated!!!
EDIT : Great video!!
This series did good to elevate Hawkgirl in the DC animated universe.
Otherwise Wonder Woman was the only female in the league.
Shayera's betrayal absolutely shocked the fans.
The DCAU is not only superior to current DC comics, but the DCEU in it's entirety. Plus, it ended on high note before it got stale.
Green Lantern is not week to the color yellow, but to the power of fear (the opposit of will power) which is yellow.
yes im a big effing nerd
This was great to listen to while I worked... Thanks..
Was hooked since day 1 of Batman:TAS. With that final scene of JLU's finale, it began with Batman & it ended with Batman
obviously, the christmas episode shoulda/woulda/coulda been the wonderbat shenanigans fake dating to possible real dating silliness
You expect Batman to date? It cuts into his brooding time.
Sidenote, I believe the Gordanians (who the Thanagarians were supposedly fighting) were the race that imprisoned and experimented on Startire
35:12 the way this man + Disney made me think old and/or bald people were out to get me, was unreal!! 😭😂 Had me side eyeing my bald uncle for so long 😒🤣
56:52 , 1:30:50 Oooooo they were roommates
Thanks for another amazing video !!
There will never be another DCAU like this one. 1992-2006 best shows ever. Nothing can beat the OG's.
JL and JLU are to this day some of the best content DC has ever made
No
Aww, no Patriot Act? Bummer, cuz that one's my all-time fave. I'm the bitch who always bets on a dark horse in any and every media I consume, whether or not I originally intend to. Hell, my favorite of all the Justice League founders is J'onn mainly because I never knew the guy beforehand like I did the others, so an entire episode based around the League's least-known heroes is practically tailor-made for someone like me.
I love the MCU more than the DCEU today. But the DCAU's Justice League Unlimited was a big part of my childhood.
WE NEED THIS SHOW BACK!!!!
41:13 _oh god oh fuck_
I haven’t actually watched this show but this bit made me tear up.
That Vixen x Shayera x John love triangle antagonized little me but now that I'm grown. the three of them just needed to be poly because--
I didn't know you were into the DCAU like that. JL Unlimited was my favorite superhero cartoon growing up and it's crazy how it's barely talked about.
Great analysis. JL and JLU are impossibly good.
All the romantic relationships in this series was so well done 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭. I blame this show for making me so picky w romance writing to this day
Like which ones?
DianaxBruce ❤❤❤, HuntressxQuestion, BrainiacxSupergirl, there's HawkgirlxGL & GArrowXCanery too. The last 2 arnt personally my fav but they are executed well for their trope. I just appreciate how mature everything is handled, even w all the drama
@@ohw5306 what about DianaxBruce makes them great?
That’s enough to push Batman to confess his feelings and Wonder Woman does survive and they have 2 daughters
wait what? The ONLY post JL stuff I know is from the cross over for Justice League 2.0 and Batman Beyond 2.0????
The cringe
where did you get this information from? never heard about it before
Fineeeee I’ll watch the whole series again 😩. Starcrossed definitely ripped my heart out and I loved it🤣
My childhood!!! Please do more jlu stuff!
She decided to truly embrace the heroism she always wished to embody.
a better world the beginning of the best arc ever in justice league unlimited
I love in "The Man Who Has Everything" that it's shows that while Clark is in love with Lois, he's also still in love with Lana Lang. Which I like as a Clana shipper!
The cringe
Batman TAS, Superman TAS, the Justice League cartoons, and Young Justice were all amazing. What DC recently did to these universes in a trio of movies is horrible and has guaranteed I will never buy another one of their movies again.
I wish Wonder Woman had her own animated series before this series.
As a fan of the DCAU i appreciate your vid
I feel like you'd be interested in DC super hero girls?
DCAU or DCAMU
There's no such thing as the DCASMU or whatever you wrote
@@BaithNa Maybe not, honest mistake. Though there is such a thing as not waisting a whole comment just to correct someone on an abbreviation for what, a little “ I know better than you”? Or whatever this was
Also, as someone who was also first introduced to the DCAU through JL, going back and watching Superman TAS was so worth it. The Cadmus arc especially becomes so much better (which is impressive!) knowing everything Superman went through with Hamilton--though after watching I did become a bit sad that Lois only makes a few cameos. Shayera and her interacting once would have been *mwah*
I absolutely love both JL and jLU so much I wish it was still on. Awesome job on this video buddy. I can’t wait for more episodes of Winx club rewrite season six.
I love the flash aka Wally west and John Stewart and hawk girl.
