I'm seeing more and more videos and comments from people having issues with these MSD packs, which really sucks to hear, MSD used to be my go-to for ignition stuff for years on my other projects and the only reason I bought these when I made this video. I will say I'm still running these without any issues - so I think I may have gotten lucky or may be living on borrowed time. Finally seems like prices on OEM parts are starting to settle down. I'm looking at getting myself a set of Motorcrafts and replacing this back to OEM before I have any issues - I'll do an update when I get a set of Motorcrafts - will probably be a few months though.
Great video, it helped me just do mine on my 2011 Raptor. What an amazing difference in the truck after I started it up and drove it. Far better acceleration, no more loping idle on some damp days. They are not cheap but worth every penney!
My son just did the same process on my truck at 95000 miles, I also had him remove the boots on the new coil packs and add die electric grease on the spring and reinsert the boot in the coil pack. Good idea to grease the boot where it contacts the intake, wish I would have done that.
I was having skips, mostly the arcing issues that I didn't realize until I saw it one night. I had replaced the boots on my OEM plugs, but the plastic had started to degrade and wouldn't seat the springs or the resistor/inductor pill things correctly. I ran this way until #8 pack completely failed and decided on total replacement.
My truck didn't have heat shields on the lower OEM plug boots. I'm assuming your are referring to the plugs on the side of the heads near the exhaust manifolds?
you said you smell unburned fuel.. well you did unplug the coil pack.. so you would have caused an unburned fuel smell even if hte coil pack was fine.. but I thought the ECU stops sending fuel to a cylinder when it detects a misfire? inccorrect?
Yeah, I guess I did show that out of sequence, lol. It was smelling rich before I had unplugged the pack. I'm not sure if the ECU shuts down fuel if it senses a misfire - it would make sense if it did multiple times in a row.
Still working well, no issues I have come across. Almost a year in. I'll do a one year, or close to one year review, in a few weeks. I'll pull some of the coils and make sure the electrodes still look good.
Yeah, I've been seeing that a lot of people have been having these fail. I think I either got lucky, or I'm living on borrowed time. Honestly after hearing about all of the msd failures, I'm thinking of replacing mine with OEM motorcrafts before I have any problems.
I'll get a video going and give a 4 month update. As of now, I'm really happy with these coil packs - no issues to speak of and we've gone through some -20F days.
@Man'scape literally doing plugs today, took off 2 passenger packs went to check and literally crumbled in my hands, decided to replace all 8, dealer got me them for about 130 a piece. Then with my ford pass points OTD about 700 dollars so looks like I'm staying motorcraft but good video.

Right on! Yeah they are pricey, but I agree, worth it. About 2 months in on mine and the truck is running better. Thanks for watching!

Some extra dielectric up in the spring area definitely wont hurt. Thanks for watching!
Thanks, it's a great video that helped me a lot
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Is the MSD part number correct? When I looked up MSD-82478 I found a very different item. Possibly 82428?
Looks like it's 82748. I updated the description.
Was it skipping before you replaced them. Mine just started skipping recently and im thinking it thats what it needs.

I’m having the same problem with my F350 as well.
How much total time did it take you?
Thanks for a great video!
Probably only about an hour to replace the coil packs, not too bad at all.
Good video but l missed the lower wire connections. Did the original heat shields fit on the msd wires?

They still working good? I see supposedly people complain about msd

That OEM air intake hose looks so ridiculous. I know it's for sound control but good lord...
Lol, yeah, it's ridiculous. I'm thinking of getting something aftermarket.
Bought a set, made it 3 months and coils started failing. Msd is junk since the buyout.

What is the long term review

Nice, less than 800 on Motorcrafts seems to be a good deal. Thanks for the feedback, hope the install went/is going well!
@@htownsfinest87 Denso is the OEM for the coils. Cheapie coil set from amazon gave me misfires. Also Had arching on my old coils.
What is PN for the msd wires?
I got the MSD 31639, pretty happy with them, no issues.
