Makes me sad that the HD PS4 version they just announced for Onimusha is replacing the soundtrack with a new one, likely due to the listed composer Mamoru Samuragochi being a fraud making the music a legal headache. Cuz that means new generation of players will not hear amazing pieces like this. For full context, the credited music composer Mamoru Samuragochi, was later revealed to be a fraud. He firstly didnt write music for Onimusha, it was ghost written by Takashi Niigaki. Secondly, he exaggerated or out right lied about his deafness hard of hearing so he can boast and market himself as the "Japanese Beethoven." When Takashi Niigaki found out that Mamoru was going to use one of his other music for the winter Olympics, he finally couldn't stand to remain in the shadows and exposed him. Since the legality of where the music copyright belongs to who or which company has become a legal headache, Capcom opted for the easiest solution: New Composer, new music.
aw really? i loved the old OST especially because it had that creepy atmospheric feel to it (like a feudal resident evil), i hope they retain that feeling with the new tracks. I was also disappointed that it wasnt the Genma version of onimusha that was on the OG xbox, but i'll take what we can get haha.
Certainly, the true author was a ghost writer and orchestrator named Takashi Niigaki, who is still composing since the Mamoru Samuragochi's downfall, I think.
I would love to see an HD version of this. It brings back soo many memories. I remember playing this as a kid. It gave me a reason why Samurai's were cool. :)
Soundtrack wasnt the same. After researching why, the ost artist was caught faking the music. In a large scandal, he never made the pieces that brought him his fame in capcom. He was also involved in RE's music.
Sadly it seems that Capcom is just worried for their flamboyant (IMO, in the bad sense) 3D SFs and doesn't give a shit anymore for this and other great emergent series from the PS2 era.
