Back in the 60s you didn't have a bunch of franchise movies like Star Wars, Harry Potter, or Avengers. Bond films were about the only multi movie thing going, and each one was eagerly awaited!
Yep. Planet of the Apes is what really popularized the idea of a big franchise. Prior to that, you had only James Bond and the Universal/Hammer monster movies. After PotA, you had a huge amount of franchises being born. Jaws, Star Wars, Superman, etc.
An actor of my youth. When I was little he was my model, I wanted to be him. Simply the man was my idol. When they showed me other James Bond movies (when I was little) and when I saw that it was not an actor Sir Sean Connery I told them it wasn't a James Bond movie. great . still amazing after 50 years. Sean was the best. the modern just don't have the same style. originality. the presence of sean and roger has a lot to do with it
There's a lot of things I like about this. The special effects, production design, Japanese setting, dramatic tone, Little Nellie & the music. I, also, like how different it it is from other 007 films. The 1st Bond movie I ever saw. My dad showed this on Netflix when I was 9. It blew my mind. My favorite Bond performance from Sean Connery & my favorite James Bond movie of all-time. Also 1 of my favorite films of all-time.
This film is one of the worst, the characters have no chemistry whatsoever, the Bond girls were blend and useless, the Japanese scenes were overlong and unnecessary, the only thing good about this film is Ken Adam’s set and Spectre, nothing else spectacular.

@@aslan9334 I saw it as a kid and i guess it just had everything i thought was cool. Ninjas, a hollow volcano, rockets, space, japan, pretty girls, helicopters with rockets, piranhas, ama divers, people throwing shuriken, fast cars.. This movie let me dream about being a spy, imagining so many cool experiences and the beautiful soundtrack just retriggers those feelings for me. I remember watching it over and over, stroking my sleeping cat. Just feeling happy. Back when my life didn't feel so grey and dead. I guess it could've been another bond movie. But for me.. this was the one that i bonded with. (pun intended)
This has probably the best lines of all the series; practically every scene has a classic... 'He wouldn't touch that horrible girl." "Oh, heaven forbid!" "Kill -- Bond -- Now!" "I believe you're taking a big risk now, Mr. Fisher(man)." "Repeat after me, I love you, so we'll know you get it." "Don't worry, I get it." "This is extortion!" "Extortion is my business." Tanaka also has plenty of good scenes and lines. "Japanese men have beautiful bare skin..." "My honourable mother once told me, never get into a car with a strange girl.... but it seems that you, Mr. Bond, will get into anything ... with any girl!" "Now, how do you feel about me?" "Why... I love you..." "I'm glad that's out of the way." "Kill him!"
It blew my mind today that this movie's screenplay is written by the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and he and Ian Fleming served together
For the 60th bond anniversary all 25 movies are getting released in vue and odean cinema. They r already in cinemas and will continue to release 1 movies a week till September .
I don't know which is sportier-- that sweet convertible or that pair of stylish shoes Mr. Bond! Have never seen this Bond film but I see where they get Doctor Evil! Also-- that theme by John Barry sung by Nancy Sinatra is phenomenal.
The best of the over-the-top Bond films. Roald Dahl created the Epic Action subgenre with this madcap script. Of course, that meant the beginning of the end of Fleming Bond.
I was surprised this trailer gave away a significant plot point when the baddie woman dies in the piranha pool. In fact, it gives away most of the film
The first 4 Bond movies were the greatest of all time. After Thunderball producers had scheduled to make On Her Majesty's Secret Service and not this one. Sean Connery was thrilled with the idea of that. He knew that it would give him the acting opportunity to go in depth and emphasize on the character of Bond. So he was disappointed when instead of that they had to travel to Japan and make this one. At that point he started loosing interest on the role. If you carefully see his performance in contrast to the previous films you can see it... He is good but nothing like Thunderball or Goldfinger or FRWL
Sean Connery during filming grew exhausted with the role and grueling filming schedules especially after filming 5 Bond films from 1961-1966. Connery was fed up with how the James Bond series grew into the phenomenon it became by the time he filmed in Japan in 1966. Connery was sick of the paparazzi that followed him all over and how up to the that point felt he was known more for James Bond then anything else and wanted to move on. He was a very private person and hated how photographers and fans thought he should show himself like Bond in his personal life.
At the time OHMSS was supposed to be made but because of the snow they had to switch films . Then You only live Twice would had been Connery's last film and may had used the novel as the plot which was much darker as Bond kills Blofeld with his hands for killing Tracy and losing his memory. It could had marked the end of Bond or then introduced the new Bond and say with plastic surgery ? Connery could had marked the end of his bout as 007 much better .
Unless I'm mistaken, that's Patrick Allen narrating this trailer. He acted as villains in the final episode of UFO (Timelash) and Blackadder (season one).
"You Only Live Twice", "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", and "Diamonds Are Forever" are what I like to refer to as "The Blofeld Trilogy" (another name I give it is "The Fall Of SPECTRE Trilogy"). YOLT has Bond coming face-to-face with Ernst Stavro Blofeld for the first time, OHMSS has Blofeld getting the upper hand on Bond at the end by killing his wife, Traci, and DAF has Bond avenging Traci's death by killing Blofeld and putting an end to SPECTRE once and for all. Even though DAF never really implies that Bond is out for revenge for Traci's death, it still subtly hints at it, considering how pissed off Bond is at the very beginning of the movie and how he has that sadistic smile on his face at the end when he finally gets to crash Blofeld's mini-submarine into the control room of his oil rig base with the crane. The Blofeld at the beginning of "For Your Eyes Only" is what I like to consider as the last surviving doppelganger of Blofeld (like the ones in DAF, but obviously an old man in an electric wheelchair) who is out to avenge Blofeld's death and to start SPECTRE anew, but is immediately killed off by Bond at the very beginning.
As you say in Y.O.L.T. Bond met Blofeld, but in O.H.M.S.S. doesn't know eash other. Also ''Diamonds Are Forever''- even when Q speaks to Bond for Peter Franks escape and seems without being highlighted, a part of O.H.M.S.S. car DBS - is a follow-up of ''You Only Live Twice''. See the first scene after gunbarrel. Bond is looking for Blofeld, only because he is the head of a global criminal organization. There is no reference to Tracy and there is no Irma Bunt. D.A.F. would be a revenge film, if Connery was playing at O.H.M.S.S. or Lazenby at D.A.F.

Sean Connery - the original 007 - from whom I draw my inspiration !
The guy doing the voice over sounds like an extremely bored Blofeld.

He is Dr. Loomis from the Halloween movies and The Forger Blythe in the Great Escape, Donald Pleasence. His portray as Blofeld was very sinister.
